Everyone in LOTRO looks alike, have abilities on the same level (because abilities level automatically with you), and the trait system, that was advertised as a way to make you feel unique is a joke – eventually everyone will pick up traits best suited for his class and again everyone is the same…
Lately I came back to play Vanguard, and I cannot resist one thought : those two games are totally opposites: Vanguard have very rich and sophisticated world, and very complex RPG content, but technically it was a piece of unplayable junk. LOTRO quite opposite:  masterpiece of game-coding, seamless performance, but very shallow in its RPG structure.  Fortunately for me after latest patch Vanguard works smooth and stabile… I hope LOTRO will grow in future into more demanding RPG.
This is of course only mine opinion and I didn’t mean to offend anyone. Also sorry for my english  ;-/ .
No offense, your comments are somewhat similar to mine.

After making 5 lvl 50s (yes I did my share of playing) all GMs crafters, I would say the game lacks diversity.  It has one central theme, which is good as it ties up everything.  The game however does not go far after lvl 50.  This is sad.  WoW provides end game in form of horrible end game raid, same for EQ1.  EVE tries to keep players with huge PVPs (well there is no max level in a way).  DAoC provides very interesting RVR which to me is the best end game content so far in all MMOs.  But LOTRo has yet to offer a very clear picture of its end game state.

I do not agree 100% about your view on VG.  Yes its much more diversed, there are more races, more classes, more skills, but that alone is not depth in content.  Fact is, its a "free style" game without a central theme or lore.  That is why it feels totally different to LOTRo, which is focused on one big lore.  VG also has no end content, only endless raiding in the same zone.

Both VG and LOTRo are young, they are out almost within the same quarter.  Give them time, and hope they will evolved into their own unique shape soon.

Sounds like the original poster got gored one too many times by the unending hordes of boars!

No, the game isn't a pile of crap. Yes, its not your cup of tea.

    end of line.

This is a really excellent idea.  I can't say how many times I had to give up a piece of gear that I really liked the look of to wear better stuff that looked hideous.

I decided a few weeks ago, to try this game out again. As far as I've seen it's improved a lot. I played during the beta, I have an 'original' founders account and upon returning I personally was pleasantly suprised.

I think the graphics are beautiful. I comment to my friend about them all the time and he agrees with me wholeheartedly. I started playing MMO's over four years ago (about 6 or so) and frankly I'm not entirely sure how they (the graphics) look anywhere near that old. I mean, I have a really spiffy computer (everything but the harddrives and case are top of the line [bought a week ago :) ]), I can play the game on max, and they look terrific...

As far as the price goes, yes you can buy the game for $9.99 USD but that doesn't mean that the game is doing poorly. I play on Brandywine and so far I've had nothing but wonderful things to say about it. Aside from the crazy amount of farmers (and every game has them - Turbine seems to be getting a handle on the situation as of late), the amount of people on that server is astounding.

It has several sore-points, for instance the fact that the world currently is as small as it is, it really is calling for some sort of "Book Expansion" and I'm not talking about these little updates they throw in once in a while. After level 50 there aren't TONS of things to do, there are a few things to do after 50, but they do desperately need more in the forseeable future, as doing the same thing after 50 on every character will grow old quickly.

I can see, myself, why this game is the players top rated game on MMORPG.Com, I'm having a blast with it...

You can't base everything off the trial either, you need to:

    a) Find a good server [Brandywine is a good one in my opinion].

    b) Find a really good guild.

    c) Spend time hanging with guildmates and such.

But as always this is just my personal opinion on the game. Obviously its biased as I am enjoying the hell out of it.

I dont know what server you are on but the community is far than unpleasant. In fact its one of the best communities in a mmorgh.

LOTRO is a very polished game.  It's very well coded, and runs very well.  The environmental graphics and scenery are exceptional, while the character animations are uninspired to poor.  The combat system is average at best compared to other  MMOs, but the storyline nature of the quest lines is what really makes the game shine.  That, and it has a very good community -- less of the teeny-boppers you see in WoW and the gankers you see in a PvP oriented game.  Not groundbreaking in any area, but a very well polished fantasy MMO in the LOTR setting.

Only problemo with your post is that the community is not IMO big time, crapy.Say what you want but unless you got in a group of really gay people then your lieing.Or you needed something else to put in your "minus" list.
