look I can write too.  I truely fail to get why a girl gamer is any different than male(except the the few that want to be applauded for it, they likely make life harder for the rest).
I think the problem is that most of these feminist women want to be treated special. They don't want true equality. I don't care whether your a chick or a dude, if your a cool person, and we play well together, i'll continue to play with you, but you won't get any special treatment from me if your a girl. I don't ooo and aww when i find out that the person that's playing that female avatar is actually a female avatar. I've played plenty of games with females in my 10 years of mmo gaming. I've actually had someone get pissed off at me because i wasn't giving items away to a female avatar for free.

In summation, you want true equality? Then accept to be treated just as men do.

I think they DO want true equality in the way that they wont be benefitted or not benefitted for being a woman...I do however think they would like to be talked to a little different.... I mean talking about how hot your girlfriend isnt interesting for many females. And despite people calling "mate/m8 and dude etc" gender neutral it does ring a little masculine..and not all women like that ;)

I sit through listening to women talk about things that i'm not interested about, and many men aren't interested in, but i don't go on a crusade trying to make them stop. I can easily ignore it, or if they are talking directly to me, i tell them just like i would tell a guy who's talking to me about something i really don't care for. Which is "I don't much care" or "I don't really want to talk about this" and leave it at that.

My wife is a gamer, my daughter is a gamer, my son is a gamer.   Please stop whining.  They are all the same.

Its seems to  me the op is just trying to find an issue where is not one.

Don't they have any more pressing issues at UCLA than to try to create one about women gamers.

Its a tempest in a teapot.

HOnestly, Any organization that uses the word "Girls" in the title ultimatly does not want to be taken seriously (I.E Girl's N Games conference).

Women in Games conference at least lends a bit of credibility.

And the female troll strikes again I hate feeding it but dear god I can't help it.

Until these posts I thought gamers were just gamers, why bring gender into it at all.  If I am raiding I could'nt give a rats arse whether you are a fat homosexual called tony or sarah the hot model from playboy. The only thing I care about is performance as a unit.

Sexism doesn't exsist the way in which I saw women around me put up with it in the 70's and 80's, alot changed in the 90's.

Not once have I ever seen a woman being put down in a group/raid/guild/server or gaming conference, infact long ago I interviewed a female developer yes shock horror op there are female developers and my current games head community manager is ummm shock horror a woman.

You are obviously a young woman with a bee in her bonnet about being a female gamer and has just experienced feminism for the first time, please go experience life.  Or if your name is Tony and your having a laugh please stop it the first time it wasn't funny this second rant is worse.

you think we can get a mod to lock this stuff? it does nothing but starts arguments and creates sexism on the forums.

you dont see guys constantly posting stuff like this.

keridwan if you want to post stuff like this, start a blog and put it in your bio, or post it on your myspace page.

    either way, lets stop this.

also on another note, i started dating my current girlfriend whom i'm engaged too because she IS a gamer. Imagine that.

one other note... lets take a look at all the critical acclaim Jade Raymond has gotten for her roll in the development of Assassin's Creed. You dont see other male dev's getting all this praise and special treatment. to be equal means you get equally ignored by people too. no more of that special feeling cause no one will take particular notice of your achievements outside of the community.

As a lover of games of all types and a game designer, no way in hell am I going to read this cr*p.  When I make games I don't think about male or female, I think about games.  About making the best game I can, about making games I want to make.  And whatever audience that games draws, so be it.

If the audience is 12 year old boys or 40 year old women I really don't care, as long as I'm making the best game I can make.

Do you think a death metal composer wakes up in the morning and says “I’m going to make music for guys”?  No, they wake up and make the kind of music they want to make.

Well not really, it's not fine. Girls, generally, don't have nearly the same thinking as guys do. I don't want my dragon's claws painted pink!

If there was a woman man enough to be president it would probably be Hillary Clinton. Either that or Bea Arthur.  We'll see who gets more votes.

you know she is going to try to ban violent games.  I just heard this from a fiend of mine whos into politics, so I dont know if its true.  Even if it is true she will fail at it.

    First, humor:

A girl gamer's place is in the kitchen, using her Cooking (200) skill to make me dinner!

    Second, advice:

Don't post a whole long article if you can make a link to it. Link to it, comment on it, and then see what happens.

    Third, commentary:

'“[Women are] gaming in an industry that actively tries to keep them out,” commented Taylor. “We're oddballs if we play.” There is a gap that needs to be fixed, panelists agreed.'

What? Trying to keep them out? Who calls them oddballs? Guys? No, my guess is that such comments come from *other women*. Most guys who game are delighted when they find out that a woman they know is a gamer. While the reaction may not be universal, I think it is much more common than thinking a woman is an 'oddball' for playing games.

We play games, that's it in the nutshell.  We don't need a political debate about.  I don't need Barbie games, I don't need catered too either.  Just give me quality gameplay.

On a side note this reminds me of a thread from early 2007 or late 2006 in which a woman was selling herself for her epic mount.  If you would like the distinction of "female gamer" instead of shutting up and just being a gamer like the rest of us then you can reside in the category with her. :p

DirtyJoe said it.  I've never heard a guy call himself a 'guy-gamer', so why girl gamers?  Why not...you know...gamers?

Besides, everyone knows girls don't exist on the intArweb.

    Girl Gamers or Deadly Women?

My last comment for this thread, and the OP in general, is this:

If you want to spout feminism and girl power and all that other stuff, maybe your Myspace page shouldn't look like a Victorias Secret catalog.

I must admit that I checked the OP myspace site. The OP got a comment from one of her friends called Athena.

Quote: Fantastic site! Thanks for the request and good to know there are other Femmes out there tearing up the gaming world! ;o) Happy New Year to all my fellow gamers!

    Tearing up the gaming world?.

I dont think I could ever take the title of 'girl gamer'    I'm just a gamer and a female thats it.   I don't care if a player is male or female I'll kill you just the same in pvp :)   Gender labels are such a waste I really wish the stuffy executives that try to market  to older females would just cut it out!  We like the same things just for different reasons. I mean I guess when your a little kid those cute little things like barbie and neopets are fun but..gah...lame when I hit my teen years it was all about taking up the sword to save the world.   Poo on cuteness.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

Okay, so you want us to ignore the fact that you are a "girl-gamer" and treat you like any other "gamer"?

Here's an easy solution: Stop pointing out that you are a girl, and poof, we will treat you like any other gamer! wow, how easy was that?

I have NO idea WHY the OP is making such a big deal out of this...
Seriously. Not only have I met and played with many girl gamers. But I've also seen on video game documentaries a number of girl video game programmers (it was mostly focusing on Square Enix Japan I believe, but they did introduce some of their programmers/artists whom half were women, half were men). I'm not trying to be demeaning or anything, I'm just saying that this is old, old OOOOOOOOLD news and hardly anything that needs to be made a big deal about.

On a side note, no I'm not sexist or against girl gamers considering one of my favorite activities is to play games with my wife, she doesn't do very well with FPS games, but I have to watch myself when she plays a racing game, and she's even given me a run for my money in Guitar Hero (Yes I play it, so what?). She doesn't expect me to be soft on her or let her win, and I don't expect it from her either. We just like to play games, what the heck is the big deal?

Nobody cares what gender you are. You're just one more sprite on the screen I get to shoot.

I think that would be too difficult for her because she would have to give up on a) feel like she's special just because she's a girl and b) get all the attention just because she's a girl.

No, being a girl gamer doesn't make the OP somehow special or better at "kicking male gamers butt" as far as I'm concerned, she's just a gamer plain and simple. Now if only she could stop with the sexism "girl power" trip she's on and come back to reality land, she'd find out that girl gamers are in no way discriminated, put down, shunned, whatever you want to call it.

It's a shame really. I've always considered the gaming community in general to be one of the most cohesive and "equal" communities ever seen. There is no racism, no sexism, no prejudice against religion etc. (at least in my experience) in the gaming community the only thing that matters is your skill, you're either very skilled or your not, but it's not something that a player can't improve on. One day you may be a noob, but the next you can work yourself up to be a challenging player. To see people like the OP with a certain biased agenda come in to the gaming community it saddens me because it disrupts that certain "I don't know what" that makes the game community so interestingly unique from other real life communities.

Geeze I wonder if anyone really gives a crap. Why does it have to be a battle of the sexes? Who fucking cares. Should I play my ethnic card? No because no one gives a shit.

Zorvan, you punk, you made me go and look! And yes, it does sort of look that way. I encourage more (hot) girl gamers to uh... play and uh... stuff. Yeah. You go, girl!

She forgot to add Nariko from heavenly sword and the girl from half life 2.  And one of my favorites are Liara and Tali from Mass Effect.  Although Liara is an Asari so shes not realy female or male.
