That would be great Although I have the feeling most of them are trolls with no proof. I have yet to see a single thread for them with any viable proof.
But yeah I hope they do go over there! It will be fun and *chuckles* educational.

Sorry, if I wasn't more clear in case this was directed at my post.
I'm actually about as pro pre-CU as they come myself, just forgot to quote the post I actually meant to respond to..... and now I'm having problems finding it (chalk it up to issues navigating a new forum, lol). Was actually meant to rebut one of the myriad of the "why can't you all get over it, I have and now just troll on the vet refuge boards so I can show you I'm above all your arguements" type of posts I've seen.
I can see how what I posted can be taken out of context though. Wasn't calling any of the pre-CU supporters out, however, believe me.
http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/tryswg/ I generally try not to bash SOE because - well - most of you guys are so much better at it than I. But this is just embarrassing. Order SWG now and get a "cybernetic experience chip" as a reward? Free levels for n00bs. Skip all that pesky working for your levels. It's official. SOE has given up on retreiving vets.
Face it you weren't going to return anyways chip or no chip. There isnt' anything they can do to bring vets back.
Jenus1, you simply just were NOT around for the history of SWG. The only thing you have experienced is the NGE for this game, and honeslty I'm sorry about that.
The game did suffer a catastrophic hit in the population when the NGE came about. Anyone that refuses has some coke bottle glasses with roses painted on them. Some of the veterans that still play SWG cannot deny that. My Sister that still plays SWG who I introduced in the last months of the Pre-CU days can't deny that. Us veterans who left but were around before the NGE and / or the CU were around for it.
Let me exclude the contrasts in gameplay, the bugs, etc.
If you can imagine, with the current population of the NGE that you see in the game... if you can imagine coming across x4 to x6 the amount of players in game to play with than the NGE, where everyone really needed each other. Crafters needed us adventurers. Adventurers needed the Crafters. Everyone could draw benefits from Entertainers. It was all a circle that everyone played a role. And lots of players were involved in it.
But it's all gone. The interdependence is gone, but the population is irrevocably, GONE.

You had to be there to witness the population online that was driven away on 15 November 2005.
You just had to be there to see the contrast, and if you had been there, you would not question Warmaker's post. It's a very well written example of the reality of things that you can find tens of thousands of testimonials from players who left, I'm sure. We're not making this up, as much as you want to believe otherwise.
Hell, the CU did tremendous damage...the NGE just finished off the job the CU started, and made it painfully obvious that SOE did not give so much as a womprat's ass about its existing player base. They thought they'd attract hundreds of thousand of WoW demographic players with their radical changes, and it turned out they were beyond wrong...in part because they stupidly failed to imitate some of the most important aspects of WoW. You know, the polish, the relative lack of bugs, and customer service.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
From what i've heard people started leaving in late 04 because of the bugs among other things.

Heck, you could have said that in July of 03!
The game was released unfiniished, unpolished, with many bugs unattended to. Bugs that are unattended to to this very day...that even the CU and NGE did not bother to address.
I often wondered what the problem was with the SWG dev team that professional pride was so obviously lacking, as manifested in some of the longstanding bugs. Then there was the contrast with other aspects of the game that were done so very, very well.

some people even start to leave after 2 weeks or 3 months , thats not the point. The point is when people start amass exodus protesting about the patches that introduced a bad game quality.
You posting in a forum here named "SWG Veteran Refuge" that was NOT up 2004 but since 2006, the existence of is an aftermath of the NGE. After the mods felt a need to aid the few players left playing and discussing the current game. The mass of players talks here.
topics here :
-The fond memories and joys we experienced in PRE CU
-Current SWG NGE is crap.
-Bring back PRE CU
-MMO market doesn't need a pest publisher/developer who destroys promising ideas of other developer . (EQ/EQ II may be excluded)
-We wanna classic SWG server !
-Since $OE isn't capable to entertain the majority of Star Wars fans SWG is better to die, to make place to someone else like BIOWARE for to save the IP.
-BIOWARE is a better game developer.
-$med is a goner soon
-$OE is unsuccessful on the market compared to WoW
-customer needs protection against immoral $OE practices
thats some of the topics get here discussed byt he vast majority of MMORPG SWG Forum readers, you welcome to say
/amen
to that.
I would ask you too, to make use of the search services on these forum to not repeat questions that got already answered.
And please proof what you claim. Don't simply state hearsay statements like "i heard people leaving 2004 cause of bugs" thats true for some people. But its nothing compared to the mass exodus due to the introducing of the bad game experience with CU and especially NGE.

I bet the OP never ever played a MMOrpg before as if he would then every mmorpg ever made could be seen as lame (well this website almost every game seems lame if we would believe the majority of complaints.
Yes i've been in beta, yes i've loved pre-cu and been there all the way till NGE which for me was the end of the road. Already before CU and NGE people where leaving the game in masses, only us die-hards sticked with the game as we knew how to play the community game, now it seems even most VETS on this section are mostly WOWEFIDE, unable to grasp things in a realistic manner.
I've been thru a terrible time in rl (lost my dad "cancer"), during pre-cu SWG where the game really became my home sort of speak, i wasn't intrested in what was going on outside, i was totaly foccused on the game ( my job at the time freelance producer/soundenginer gave me ....to much time to spend on the game) so don't start with i've not been there, i might have been there even more then some of you have ....but i have moved on as that is what adults do imo, sorry all these complaints like the one OP shows just shows people don't have anything else to play/do, or are burned out by this genre, or simply enjoy living in the past unable to addept. Like i said i do respect people's opinion but if the mis details of being realistic then sorry it comes to me as that.
Yes i felt the pain seeing our flourishing guild(s) vanish, get ripped apart not by those of us playing but by those unable to fixe the game that from the start that was broken. I agree on many things certain VETS say but still when ever i state my opinion some newbies very new to this genre somehow feel that they can call me a NGE fanboy, reason for this is that last year i returned for 8 month but only played continuesly at holiday seasons, i enjoyed the game as it was still very similair to what pre-cu was...wel i must say I PLAYED IT VERY SIMILAIR To what pre-cu was, meaning i played with the community, i was helpfull, enjoye'd crafting ONLY as since CU i never got that feel of doing combat in SWG, but did like the combat i could do with my trader as it's far better then CU/NGE ever could be, but i simply did not have the time to devote to the game like i had enough time during pre-cu, and this is what made me leave hte game ...again...after these 8 months...... okay okay the community what we had isn't there anymore, also the amount of people who played fell short when comparing it to pre-cu, but somehow it seems people do not realize that for most pre-cu SWG was their first MMOrpg therefor afcourse many people would be playing, but if we would be really realistic about it ANYONE should agree that if your game with a IP like SWG only gets about 350k subs then WE ALL "should" understand something needs to be changed as that is very shamefull to have such a hugh IP only gather such low pop....yes yes the pop seems to be even lower then it was. Also it's a shame many thing for mostly the combantant part is still not fixed and/or is broken, though it seems there still enough people playing the game, like i said pre-cu subs i don't feel the game will ever re-gain again
But then again allot ( which imo does not mean everyone that is complaining about the game, it means ALLOT! ......thats it... of disgrunted VETS are very onesided and unable to graps that people have moved on that where really involved with the game, that have lost many many items, that had experiance but continued to play even with the bugs, al we see is the onesided part of people asuming that those who speak about moving on to be NGE fanboy's .....again such a ignorant way of thinking IMO.
Learn to understand that even we who have spend countless hours ingame at pre-cu are more mature then what we see at this section, again NOT ALL but really allot imo....would i wish a gamecompany to bring us a game as deep SWG "SHOULD" have been....afcourse, though like i said before most likely eventhough my passion lies in games like that, my time isn't ...unfortunaly.
I can appreciate what you're saying and respect your opinions, but for me it's more about the lack of respect we have as consumers of a product rather then players of a game.
SOE knowingly changed the game without giving us any real notification, and certainly no consultation. In "moving on" all we're doing is setting ourselves up for the next "upgrade".
I choose to be vocal about it because I think we should demand more from the products we buy and subscribe to.If you disagree with that then that's OK with me, but please don't expect others to be so forgiving over the feeling of being manipulated by a corporation.

Same here i do respect your opinion, i agree that we have been kept in the dark at the time of change, but for me i felt it was needed to ..again express myself in this manner as i kinda was sick of being called either a fanboy or as someone who wasn't there. Also i do not like how SOE conduct's business, but for me i've learned my lesson to not really beleive what most devs have to say...it's a shame really i wish i could feel they can be honost but SOE has shown atleast me that somehow it's hard to be honost towards our community, this btw goes for almost every game ever made....imo
Like i said i fully agree on certain VETS opinion, just not imo most of the complaints, you among some others always (well not always...hehe but mostly give/gave reasonble explainations, Arcangel is also one of them that i feel give's pretty valid info/discussions on these boards....again not always, but hey i bet you both and more feel the same towards me, sometimes, overall i still enjoy having dicsussions on forums as thats what they here for....to share our experiance's/hopes/dreams/viewpoints and what not

Sorry that you went thru a hard time during PRE CU time and about your loss but isn't that the best compliment for the PRE CU version if it helped you even through those hard times. The fact that many spend a lot of time ingame speaks for the intense nature of the PRE CU version giving such a community a home.
And here come were we start to differ. Because you say you moved on (as a sign of maturity) and our talks are "onesided" i say it is charity to warn people about immoral $OE practices like it was a MMO NO-GO to destroy people's home against their will gready after $$$$ by lowering game quality. Instead of introducing the bad game enhancement they have could introduce more Elite professions attracting more people, put in AT-AT , fix the bugs but instead all these positive changes they decided to destroy the value people's in-game items and nerf the game.
We here to practice justice over such immoral MMO practices, may its looking onesided for some people but it is full justified from the MMO customer point of view to keep warning people about the greed at $OE.

It's quite remarkable that a close friend went through the same thing with his mother. She had a brain tumor and was dieing a slow and agonizing death. He was with her and taking care of her when the rest of his family was paralized to help.
I convinced him to spend some time in SWG to help with taking his mind off this horrible moment in his life, and it did indeed help him.
I didn't understand any of what you just said, please rephrase if you want my time to read it.
The refugee forum was created because they wanted to filter out the haters from the general forum, this has worked successfully. I guess when the heat is on, all you can do is call people a 'noob', Saddens me.
Originally posted by Stradden Greetings one and all!I wanted to write a quick note to explain, first, that the original wording for this forum might have been misleading. I have ammended it to be more inclusive of new and perspective players who are curious as to why so many people are angered over this particular game.
The reasoning behind the creation of our two new SWG forums was never to stifle anyone's opinions, but rather to give everyone a fair chance to express their views on this game. I realize that there are very strong feelings surrounding the sweeping changes that were made to this game, and we want to provide a place where people can discuss this issue. It has always been my intention to have this place be used as well by newcomers who are curious about gaining perspective on the events of this game's past, including the NGE and CU. I appologise if the original wording of the description for this forum was misleading, and hope that by adding to the description, I have cleared this up.
I hope that by providing these two seperate forums, these two distinct aspects and points of view on this game can both be heard so that everyone who has a voice, can be heard.

*edit: I also wanted to clear up some confusion about the actual NAME of this forum.
1.shelter or protection from danger, trouble, etc.: to take refuge from a storm.
2.a place of shelter, protection, or safety.
3.anything to which one has recourse for aid, relief, or escape.
I chose that name due to the controversey that is caused around people posting opinions about the changes. I thought that it was an appropriate for a forum dedicated to this particular subject.

You say it with such certainty and yet you can't provide to proof, certainty without proof or facts is only for fools.
Please, if theres any proof i am missing, please give it to me.
{Mod Edit}
Missing proof? It's already there in SWG. The lack of players is one of the largest, single piece of proof there is.
The lack of crafters is another sign, especially since you don't really need crafters in the NGE now. Just do some quests and loot to get the ONLY essentials of the game: Armor & Weapons.
Better yet, I have a challenge for you. Go over the Official SWG Forums, specifically the Gameplay Forum (it's the busiest there), start a thread and ask about how many players there used to be before the NGE. Pay heed to the repliers with registration dates from 2003 to 2005. Yes, some of them may have been E-bay players (bought a veteran's account over E-bay), but there are still some old school vets there.
Again, ask how many player numbers from the ones who were there a long time. Have them compare the population size BEFORE the NGE and AFTER the NGE.
Despite you NEVER having even played before 2007 and us having been on SWG for years, you will not believe us. So, go over back to the safe haven and ask.
By all means, link that thread to here so we can follow it... if SOE doesn't delete it, which I imagine they will given enough time... but it will be an interesting effort.
Who knows? They might suspend your forum login for mistaking you to be one of us disgruntled vets!
EDIT TO ADD: Don't ask for specific numbers. You'll never get that. Ask something along the lines of how much of a crowd there is THEN and NOW. Or put it bluntly, was there more people playing before the NGE or after.

Go to the SWG fora and post it. Get the opinion of those who stuck with the game, not just the infintesimal number of disgruntled vets here on MMORPG.COM.
You'll find, much to you displeasure, if you're intellectually honest, that we've not been making all this up.

I third the challenge.... but deep down within me i don't think the thread will last long over there, becuase the devs will want to sweep it under the carpet...
Still if one of us can follow it after you posted it, its all good.
But i know the answers will be in our favor, either way.
Still... you really should do it. I agree with the above.

Criticism is not tolerated over there. Especially if it's well written, analytical, and constructed as a good argument.
That is what got my forum accounts permabanned, and is why I am on the "cabal" watchlist.
Go to the SOE boards and post any critique of the game. Watch the fanboi flames roll in. See them be allowed to flame you with impunity. Watch the post disappear as "nonconstructive".
Comments
That would be great Although I have the feeling most of them are trolls with no proof. I have yet to see a single thread for them with any viable proof.

I can see how what I posted can be taken out of context though. Wasn't calling any of the pre-CU supporters out, however, believe me.
Getting abit tired of this bashing around, please do find something else to spend your sparetime on.

You say it with such certainty and yet you can't provide to proof, certainty without proof or facts is only for fools.
Please, if theres any proof i am missing, please give it to me.

Reklaw,
I can appreciate what you're saying and respect your opinions, but for me it's more about the lack of respect we have as consumers of a product rather then players of a game.

Bravo , well said!
You say it with such certainty and yet you can't provide to proof, certainty without proof or facts is only for fools.
Please, if theres any proof i am missing, please give it to me.
{Mod Edit}

I second the challenge.
