SOE runs their MMO business like a restaurant where they put things on the menu, change the menus without notice and after the order has been placed, not disclosing any of these changes to the customer, then delivering to their table whatever THEY thought the customer wanted to eat, not what the customer wanted.
A restaurant that operated like that would close the same day it opened. SOE is closing as well, once cancellation at a time.
Some people's ideas in this thread seem to be very off the mark. Many Vets have returned, i cant put proof in front of your face unless you log into the game, but take my word, i know SWG has many faults, but it is improving. Secondly, forums stale?? Not to my knowledge, i use them regularly; theres all the usual stuff going on there. Oh, and yes, WE GET IT there arent as many players as there were pre-CU/CU, big deal.
The way i see it, from where they stand, the developers are doing the best job possible in adding content and new features, fixing bugs etc instead of any large changes. I'd also like to reiterate SWG is NOT in the NGE now, we're a long way past that, i cant even list out the number of things that have been added/changed/tweaked sinces then.
There is a big risk to invest time and money into current SWG. Thats an result of a simple risk @ impact analysis, Its not doing economically well and its possible to be turned off in near future so no point to subscribe or come back for vets.

Wrong. what evidence do you have to proclaim that Swg is doing well "economically"? If SOE had any problems financially with SWG, it would have been shut down a while ago. I'll give you a couple of reasons why im pretty sure its not going anywhere to soon.
Firstly, recently we witnessed the addition of a couple of new developers/artists, not replacements, additions. Secondly with the numbers i see in SWG everyday, at least on my server, there's easily gotta be enough subscriptions to keep this game going especially as no TV etc advertising campaigns are eating into that. Numbers in game arent like pre-CU but they're nowhere near like it was in the NGE when it first hit. Infact a lot of the time numbers at times are fairly comparable to CU now i think about it.

Fair enough Patricius, i play on a couple of servers, Chilastra and Europe-Chimaera, both have good populations, but i am, well aware that there are servers with low populations. This would lead me to say what ive said from the beggining that SWG has too many servers anyway, more than most games with much large populations. A server merge would definately be in order down to a reasonable number. Nevertheless, i still firmly believe upon the other points i made that SWG would have been shut down a while ago, if they problems were that bad.
SWG isn't up for the profits If thats is SWG's purpose then you can call it healthy or whatever. If the goal of recent patches/publishes was to lure in masses who enjoy an MMO game, well this target was clearly missed.
Im sorry if you cant appreciate the whole complex, diverse RE system, Beast Master/CH and collections, for me, they were by far teh best things to come out since expertise, add a lot of depth to the game, not to mention the new content added as well. Anywho it is still running and i bet you they are making a profit, the margin may not be as large as it was pre-NGE, but its still there.

I found this rather hilarious: you seem to be implying that a pre-nge player does not appreciate the "complexity" of recent NGE add-ons.
You people are unbelievable! This game is for 5 year olds compared to what it used to be...
why do you now accept the concept an educated guess based on observation, but not when jestor gave his? Did you assume jestor was trying to pass off the 200k figure as quoted fact?
He seemed so confident i didn't think he was lying and making it up without any proof.
ok, so you assumed. Your mistake. If you had much more than a couple weeks of experience with swg you would not have made that mistake.
thanks for reading.
Luckily I didn't assume for long, i requested proof which he couldn't deliver, luckily i uncovered the full story, there is no proof. From 2003-2006 I was serving my country in Iraq, therefore i couldn't play SWG, i had more important things to do, such as keep my squad alive.
Thanks for reading.
No proof? I thought you understood what tman5 said. You should read it again. What you really mean is that it wasn't the proof you were looking for. And you did ask for (better) proof, but you still did not understand where jestor's estimation came from until tman5 explained it.
thx for serving the country. Now I know why you lack the ability to understand common swg knowledge. Not that I asked.
I am under the influence that things need to be backed up by facts and proof for it to be valid, not just guesses and estimates, sadly this knowledge doesn't seem to be compulsory in this forum.
Ya, I know you need better proof cause you certainly lack the experience. We covered this already. Not that I wouldn't like to see stats from SOE headquarters, but I at least have the experience to understand how valid estimations of mass decreases in population are.
Once again you fail you include proof or facts to back up your claim, I can't move this debate forward if you can't catch-up.
Hello. I am sure you will not find it difficult to find PRE-CU screenshots of starports, medical centers, cantinas, salons, you name it, where no doubt you will find your proof there.
I would post some for you but I'm afraid I have never taken the time to take many screenshots, and those I have are mostly related to guild events etc.
Be it as it were, I get the impression your intent here is to troll rather than to engange in a productive debate, for YOU are the only one who has only seen one side of the coin, so whatever observation or remark you make will lack substance and credibility when it comes to comparison.

Sorry... NGE is in no way complex... its WoWish, easy.. and its a joke... plain and simple... pre-cu was mor complex than NGE will ever hope to be. Nuff said.

Its not WoWish seeing as it doesnt have graphics that are for 10 year olds (cartoony). It has a hell of a lot more customization: storyteller, player cities, crafting system, image design, decorating etc etc. Pre-CU may have been more complex, but i doubt a large amount more. Im not sure what you think the game is like now, but most dungeons etc now require a full group with experience and tactics.
Hozloff: i wasnt implying that you wouldnt be able to understand it, i was saying you obviously cant appreciate it, different words; this is probably because you cant accept that people now enjoy the game. And i challenge you to get a 5 year old to play this game, i know you were being sarcastic, but honestly try it.

OH but it is sir! Classes... quests just like it... itemization like it, levels. It puts crafting on the backburner like wow does. So.... hmmm yeah...
More customization? lol ya right.... storyteller... who cares... player cities, same as they always been just more empty, crafting is less complex and hardly needed anymore.. epecially weaponsmith.
And lets not forget that we lost skill trees so its MUCH less customizable.. you have to chose a class...
Im wondering... did you even play pre-cu? No offense at all but it doesn't sound like you did. =/

just leave him alone. he must know that the nge is going to go away soon.
and saay i have 249.999 friends who love swg pre-cu and how many nge fans are out there i think maybe like 5000 if that? so don't cry when everyone go's to the emu servers or when soe wakes up and gives us our game back.

Given its been over 2 years now since the NGE it doesnt seem to be going anywhere at all..and as for the emu well i believe it when thats up and running though i'm not holding my breath
Archeus: Crafting isnt useless, i assure you, WS is the only dud, as it were. AS, BM crafters, domestics, Shipwrights, architects, and general loot shcematic crafting is all crucial to the game. They are increasingly coming off the backburner with each publish, please, i beg you, how ever much you hate swg, dont compare it to WoW, thats a low blow. The active player cities are not empty whatsoever, neither is storyteller/decorating etc all useless. I joined at the beggining of CU but i did watch friends play Pre-Cu quite a lot.
iwantmyswg: Useless post, please refrain. I wont be doing any crying and as said above, i doubt the game is going anywhere too soon.
If the Devs and producers gave a damn about the crafting and player economy aspect of the game, they'd have done something about it a long time ago, not 2+ years on. There isn't anyone left who is a pure crafter. There were a hell of a lot of them pre CU. Nothing has been done to address the supremecy of loot/reward weapons over craftables. The fact that crafted armor is better than looted seems more of an accident than an intent, IMHO, they just forgot to nerf the crafters and crank up the loot drops.
The answer to everything the playerbase wants, even most of the shrunken mess left, is that they want it the way it was, not the way it is.
Even today.
And it's pathetic to watch DeadMeat (what an appropriate name) and Toilet Boy continue their dance of "no rollbacks" which makes as much sense as being a team of fireman that's willing to do anything for the people trapped in a burning building EXCEPT put out the fire. Changing the drapes or rearranging the furniture in a burning building or sinking ship is wasted effort, and that is exactly how I'd describe ALL post-NGE development efforts.
Pathetic efforts and wastes of time, because the fundamental objection to the NGE is the NGE itself. No serious effort whatsoever has been made to de-NGE the NGE, and efforts like expertise are not acceptable replacements for the skills system and mix and match profession templates. They haven't even made any serious efforts at fixing the problem of animations OR the crap UI, both things that they could do without involving a rollback.
As for the new "content", running around on a Galactic Scavenger Hunt (collections) or running the same handful of "Kill the million HP Foozle" boss mob instance, neither is my idea of fun. Nor do either have very much to do with Star Wars. If I were going to face an epic encounter, I want to be fighting Vader or the Emperor, not some whacked out feminist force using chick from a planet that was supposed to be BLOCKADED by a whole Imperial fleet during this time.
Speaking of collections, that screen that replaced the old badge display is about the gayest 6-year old with a coloring book "design" I've ever seen. Whomever is doing the artwork over there should be fired.

There are pure crafters left, (when did you last play the game?). The RE system was designed to address the sumpremacy of loot/reward drops, most people prefer modded clothing and weapons made by crafters if they can afford it etc. Oh and thats convenient, something that goes against your argument, must be a mistake. The answer to everything the playerbase wants, even most of the shrunken mess left, is that they want it the way it was, not the way it is. False, many of them are happy with the current situation as long as it continues to improve, and many who do want a rollback, would like many aspects of the game now to stay with it Even today. Today i will not comment but i have returned last year for 8 month PURE CRAFTER, together with a few other people i met, yes yes hold your breath it wasn't pre-cu "others", but still crafting is not that much changed. Once you finaly come to terms and understand it the community that has changed, that many simply do not have the patients or time to devote to be a pure crafter is what makes it for seem as if crafting isn't usefull, those of use that have put in some effort at return DO KNOW that crafting is still very usefull, only those who have not played the trader profession can say crafting isn't usefull, others CAN NOT in no way, yes i agree it would be cool to have seen not such a big swift in how people play the game, but it happens and it will continue to happen. Only prof at my return that wasn't as usefull it was ,was tailoring which only become usefull at master lvl, all the other trade profession i was making profit from lvl 1>max.

It is useless man... you can get everything you ever need from the leveling circles. ding! done! thats my point. dude... im sorry.. but the game IS worse and will forever be worse than pre-cu. This is proven by facts, proven by the people that left and will never come back, proven by SoE's constant spin doctoring they are still trying to do. (instead of fixing it back)
I went back the other day(roughly a month or two ago) in hopes that i could get myself back into it and see if it changed any. It didnt. If i were to compare it to something, id compare it to a car that got its original engine ripped out and replaced with another engine that even shouldnt be there.
So its not that i havent tried to enjoy the current game, i just cant. Its WoWified (yes i played wow too). And it shows... they did all this NGE because wow's success, thats been proven too.
Just my two cents.

3 short statements
1. a) You pretty much verify Trader isn't the class for targeted audience
b) pure crafter isn't very popular and cause of the bad game design few player try it out. PRE CU you could mix some combat skills in and here you go with the fun (genial designed)
2. Not surprisingly crafting can be useful and fun, it is a PRE CU invention ! Since then developers tried to make crafter's life as harder as they could with the CU and NGE patches, maybe they realize that as mistake now. Now because of the wrong design decisions still having a negative effect on crafting it isn't nowhere where it used to be.
3. It still requires a Veteran who points at the beauty of crafting . Wish you fun.
On my last vet trial, I ran into a new player who really got into crafting. So much so that he rerolled his BH toon into another crafting toon. He found combat to be boring; he liked the depth of crafting, which is still there, albeit with fewer choices and a lot less demand for the product, since it's more than possible to work your way to 90 with a combat toon and never need any crafted gear of any kind to do so.
I showed him some of the ropes, explained how to go about surveying, showed him a few of hte tricks.
He enjoyed just being in the world. He was...wait for it...there for the sandbox, not for the linear quest play.
NOT the NGE target audience.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Im not sure what you think the game is like now, but most dungeons etc now require a full group with experience and tactics.Hozloff: i wasnt implying that you wouldnt be able to understand it, i was saying you obviously cant appreciate it, different words; this is probably because you cant accept that people now enjoy the game. And i challenge you to get a 5 year old to play this game, i know you were being sarcastic, but honestly try it.
Pre-CU was a beach
CU was a sandbox
NGE is a catbox.

and saay i have 249.999 friends who love swg pre-cu and how many nge fans are out there i think maybe like 5000 if that? so don't cry when everyone go's to the emu servers or when soe wakes up and gives us our game back.

EDIT: oh and emu? lol

Try EVE. It's the only game out there that is:
1. Sci-Fi and skills based
2. Truly hardcore, when your ship blows up it's gone... You don't get a clone of it you only get money which is usually much less than it was worth.
3. Completely open and player driven. There are player owned EMPIRES out there in 0.0
4. Ground game is coming within the year.
5. Grindless. Skills train whether you are online or offline.
I tried virtually every other MMO that might interest me, and EVE is the only one that's kept me. I've been playing since September and love it.
