That said, there's some real tools beating up on POTOBS right now that I'm basically risking another "time out" to beat on...and I didn't even like the game!

ok, Thanks for the warning :) I seem to enjoy all of the "hated" games lately :)

TR, PotBS and now DDO. It's all good though, I play what I have fun playing and there's enough cool folks on these gaming forums to make up for the toolbags :)

I just had a great couple of hours in DDO and am looking forward to playing some tomorrow after work. The game looks and feels infinitely better than it did at launch and I am able to run on max settings with tremendous performance. The game looks beautiful and the initial quests are a blast so far :)

This will be a great compliment to PotBS. I might have just replaced TR. I have the trial and the first 30 days of the regular sub after that... so I should definitely know by then.

DDO was horrible at release, but it is a much better game now. The bad rap came from release.

If Turbine had done what they did with LOTRO with DDO, it would have been more widely accepted.

How is everyone liking the game now? I just read this and it's about 2 months old so whats the verdict? I saw at least 4 people saying they were going to start it up, and I'm wondering what they are thinking now!

I think most of them are regular posters here now, if that tells you anything ;)

    Good =D

I'm actually the OP, I just have a new account, and I am still playing.

In fact, I got my girlfriend to start playing (who incedentally plays more than I do now), a coworker, and 2 other friends now.

    :)

I too played this shortly after it released...  and hated it... in fact if you dig back far enough in this forum you will find some rather scathing remarks by me about both Turbine and the game back then.  I'm happy to say that I recently had the opportunity to give the game another try and love it now.  Most, if not all, my complaints about the game have been resolved and there is plenty of content now.  It actually is possible to level to max without repeating, though most wind up repeating at least a few quests several times either because they just enjoy them (Tangleroot is one of my favorite dungeons in the game) or because they want to get a specific end reward that is either rare or they just didn't get offered the first time through.

As I've said in other threads.   DDO has gone from being one of the WORST MMO's on the market (at release) to one of the BEST MMO's on the market (currently) in my opinion.

It's cool to see a game make a turn around such as DDO has.  Unfortunately though, with Turbine focusing development upon the players requests there's been a trade off in the success of such efforts for we are now aquiring some of those players which have a less then desirable impact upon the community.

I do not play WoW due to the community for the most part - I find it too imature for my liking.  Lately there's been quite a few players who have been down right rude which had made it apparent they were coming from WoW.

I hate stereotypes even when they appear accurate.

Regardless of this, DDO still has one of the best online communities I've been able to enjoy.

This happen at the lower levels mindspat? PUGs at the lower levels for me atleast are always risky on who you get, some really just are bad. My rogue is level 9 and it is different type of groups of people you encounter at 9 compared to 1-3.

The problem with the free trial is, you can not get a look at the added content etc because it is all higher level based.  Also, groupping at low levels is not really a good thing since you split the xp.  A paladin can solo all the dungeons up till they get to the sewers, and if they have the right gear and a good build, can even solo that.  I've soloed expert mode dungeons with a paladin at lower levels so there isn't any real reason to group, except if they are friends of yours.  Later dungeons require groupping do the the mobs having highly overpowered spells like time stop and never miss paralyze, etc etc.

Okay Im convinced ... downloading the high-rez version of the game now  I tried DDO long ago and enjoyed certain parts of it, and it sounds like there has been a lot of improvement since then.  My one concern is that I do solo a lot and Vincenz makes it sound like the game is very group-oriented. Either way, Im giving it a go!!

Well, there are low level adventure areas now too in Water Works and Cerulean Hills...but with Mod 7 comes an ALL NEW STARTER ZONE!  YIPPEEE!

Incorrect.  Grouping has no impact on XP whatsoever.  In fact in a group you can get MORE xp than you can solo because you can do the quests on hard/elite (which yields double the xp of normal) and you can complete them faster as well.  You do not 'split' XP in DDO ever.  The reward is the same solo as it is in a group, given that you do it on the same difficulty.

Yep you can, and it'll take you 2-3 times longer than it would take in a group, and as I already pointed out in a group you can cruise through the content in less than half the time you can alone.

I believe every class can solo the low level (lvl 1-3) content if the player is good.  I personly have not solo'd a character all the way up to max level ( level 16; keep in mind there's a sepereate 4 Ranks of advancement per level) but believe with the proper patience and strategies you'll do well, but couldn't possibly understand why someone would want to solo all the way to the end game unless they were attempting to prove a point.

A paladin will have likely have a problem hitting a mob if they're running the appropriate level quest on elite.  They are going to need friends.  Not to mention, if "expert" was meant as Elite (quests unlock once they are completed: Normal, Hard, Elite) then I am curious what you did about the Kobolds casting Curse and Hold Person since they are a serious pain in the ass.

MOBs have spells like "Time Stop" and never miss paralyzation!?!?  I don't think I'm aware of the TimeStop existing in DDO.  Could you explain please.

...nah, I think you're referencing those easily solable quests on Elite - The mobs are "leveled" to match the difficulty increase; which also increases the loot tables.

Aramath, do you have any questions or need help with somthing ingame?

p.s. Hold Person is based off of a Will save.

There is no Time Stop currently in game, neither Mobs nor PC's have access to it.

As to the Paladin problem for Mindspat, Remove Cirse Pots and Wands and hope you don;t roll a 1 on that Will save:) On a more serious note a Warforged Paladin soloes pretty well as they are immune to a lot of the things that are instant killers on a Fleshie soloist. (Hold Person mainly)
