No, the game is not going to be all instanced according to developers. They said they will have their share of instanced areas, but there are also going to be many open ended seamless areas.
The game will be judged on it's merits when it launches. In terms of features I tend to be on the side of the developers (of any game) than the naysayers. In the end, MMOs are long term affair and should be handled as such.
On the thread topic, I have no trouble with instancing if the instances are as big as AO. Also if an area is designed to host 1000 people (fictional number) having 2000 in it is a fun killer.
Why do you trust all the negative feedback given and not the positive feedback.
Seriously, I could say Im in beta and make an essay of why I think AoC will fail, and then 30 people will recite what I say as gospel and refernce that to 50 other forums. You know its fact, look at this very forum for all the crap being said thats simply not true. We have seen this behavior over and over about every mmo on the market. This website seems to be a cesspool of people telling each other why this game will fail and that game will rule.
I suggest everyone chill and wait and see whats released, unless you are all in the habit of letting people make your minds up for you.
if you read my posts you will see i do comment on some good things, just some things i don't like. Right now, bot WAR and AOC have things in it i dont like, and some do....beauty of open forums....i can say what pleases/displeases me

Im not stalking you or picking on you Miagi. All I am saying is if you look down the posts, it is post after post of negative statements from people that have no clue what they are talking about and speculating off of second and thirdhand knowledge.
The fact is, noone here has a clue whats going to happen until sometime after May 20th, so stop telling everyone its going to fail becuase of a vacation, or becuase of an instance, or becuase of a raid etc etc etc.
Its really making this site into nothing more than a pile of troll poo and that sucks, becuase this used to be a great source of information.
point to one post i made which i said it was going to fail. i Haven't. And maybe not all of it is second and third hand....could be fourth, could be first :P
But will this game fail? nope. MOST likely not, in fact i hope it does well, but i am still shoppingaround for my ideal mmo since i left swg, and am very curious about AoC.....but there are things that i do dislike, and just like people who love it, i can say my opinion as well

I will say it again since you missed it the first time I typed it. I am NOT picking on you. I am merely communicating to you since we have history.
What I am referring too is the people that keep posting opinions and touting them as fact. Its all speculation and people should acknowledge them as just that. Opinions are fine, but does any really want to read 100 peoples posts stating "this game sucks" with no reasoning or logic?
Look at this very post we are in, the OP states the game is all instanced when the developers have clearly said otherwise.Once again, its doom and gloom based off of bad information and made up bullshit.
That is excactly why I said these forums are becoming a cesspool of trolling and nothing more.
From what I keep hearing is that everything in this game will be instanced. Not like guildwars with private instances but more like EQ 2. Now I wonder what effect that will have on server wide PvP. I personally think it will have a detrimental effect because then controlling areas will only be restriced to particular areas which makes any FFA PvP system meaningless.
This is not good news for us expecting a new FFA PvP game like AC 1 DT.
For what I know is not "everything instanced". And hope they dont do this, Instances killed the "MM" on Gw. But in the other way, i love to have "some instancing", I like to go with my party on mishes and noone else disturbs, in CoV, with the auto pick, is really nice and works fine. Also, perhaps, city got too many instancing for me too. But "some" is needed to improve performance, and to give players the option to avoid steal (mobs, items, etc...)

This is because the there is nothing better to do. Many people apperently spend more time waiting and speculating then actually playing.

not really....speculation somewhat, waiting, nah...keeping myself busy in other games atm.
Bored at work? Definitely.....and shotgunjoe is a friend of mine...so i got no beef with him. But i am also not a blind fanbois (not towards shotgunjoe, just generalized OMG THIS GAME ROX THE BIG ONE!!!11), and my questions and comments are my own.

I will say that anyone who has any length of time with SWG I think is virtually impossible to become a fanboy of anything related to a mmo. We all know all to well how quickly things can change on a whim and go from great to crap.

I to am "bored at work" and I find the comments of some on this board to be insightful and thought out. I suppose my point was that, for some or maybe just the "fanboys", there is more joy in the conflict on the forums then there is in the conflict in the games.

i am not striving for conflict, just expressing my opinion and asking questions. There's alot of unknowns that the game does not describe, since Funcom in their infamous glory wont release the NDA until launch, then i will continue to have questions and skepticism (sp?).
Battlekruse that's not instancing. That's zones. Theres a big difference. An instance is a personal area that you zone into but nobody else can accept your or your team, ala the raids and 5 mans in WoW. That is an instance. What you describe above is a zone. AoC does use instancing (funcom invented the tech after all.) For example, when your in Tortage Night and doing your solo quests, your in your own instance. When you go into a group dungeon, they will very likely be instanced. But from what I've read (and thats a LOT,) the game doesn't make heavy use of instancing, like D&DO and Guild Wars, where every time you go to fight mobs, your in your own, or a team, instance.
Well whatever you want to call it. What I mean is exact duplicates of zones/areas/dungeons, now if they are private for just your group or not I find that irrelevant.
Some dungeons being instanced is fine. But I prefer an open world without a lot of loading screens.
The fun part about these games is feeling like you are living in another world. Hitting a loading screen between zones breaks immersion. The world starts to feel very claustrophobic, especially if there are a lot of small zones.
This is just the latest of revelations about the game today that have been a let down. I can see why they delayed the launch. Compound this with the fact they are not having an open beta, and I think I smell fear coming from the developers.
Today made me reassess whether or not I will be getting a collecter's edition.
Zones are areas in the game world that are constrained by cave walls, mountains, cliffs or similar obstacles. They are there to constrain what the game engine has to render and to limit the textures for that area of the world.
an example from wow of a zone is something like the Wetlands and Arathi Highlands. These are two game areas.
Zones are connected by passages and different games provide different mechanisms for moving from one zone to another. EQ had just a freezing screen originally, eq2 has a loading screen, wow does a passageway where they hide the transition making it appear smooth.
An instance is a copy of the zone. Most games can have one or more copies of a zone. Generally world areas only have one copy or one instance. This however can lead to problems when something like everyone in the game decides to go to a single zone all at once. The zone becomes overloaded.
So eq2 decided to spawn instances when the zone was overloaded. They set a player cap on the zone and if there are more then say 150 people in a zone they create a second instance of that zone. When you transition into that zone you have a choice of what instance to go into.
The other thing that was done and I think AO was the first was to make a zone spawn an instance based on a group. So when a group zoned into a dungeon or a special zone and instance was created for that group. Then eq2 and wow took this to the next logical step and had instances for raid areas.
So all zones are instances.
Some zones have 1 or more instances.
Instances can be created based on zone populations, a group, a raid, or even an individual.
Comments
Border Kingdoms are NOT zoned or instanced. This is confirmed with Avery's latest footage from Oslo on the official forums.
BK's are wide open pvp folks.

A few technical definitions are in order
Zones are areas in the game world that are constrained by cave walls, mountains, cliffs or similar obstacles. They are there to constrain what the game engine has to render and to limit the textures for that area of the world.
