I can't seem to get away from this topic!  I guess I had some pent up frustration at SoE!  haha

I will add one thing in their defense.  While they were releasing unfinished content like the Sleeper and nerfing items and not thinking out balancing they were...THE ONLY SHOW IN TOWN.

You either played EQ or you played nothing and they really didn't have to make the customer base happy, because we weren't going anywhere.

However, welcome to the new world of MMORPG.  They have shown it can be profitable and with some big names like Blizzard throwing their hat into the ring, perhaps SoE will shine because they have to.

One thing is for sure.  Competition is good for the consumer and we may not see some of the crap SoE has pulled in the past because now there are options for us MMORPG addicts.

Just to point out something.  The sleeper was NEVER meant to be killed, period.  The first time people actually tried to kill it for real, it was despawned by a GM because they thought it was a bug.  Because how can you actually kill the sleeper?  They spawned it again and then the people who were after it brought it down.  I belive the battle lasted about 3 hours and 30 min.  It was never meant to die so it never had a spawn time.  It was triggered by killing (i think) 4 other dragons or something like that.  It was meant to be a storyline monster where it wakes up, kills alot of people, and then ravanges the world.  This would help with the start of Eq2's stroyline.

Your grudge against SOE is outstanding. Put on some metal music and bring the hate.

The Sleeper was not meant to be killed, correct.  But...it was meant to be wakened by defeating the Warders who guard him.  Once awakened he was to create a story line which involved him getting vengeance on the First Brood dragons who imprisoned him.

And what exactly does this have to do with him popping up as a giant naked human model upon being awakened, the zone crashing, GMs showing up and booting people out of the zone because the encounter, and thus, THE CONTENT wasn't finished?

-They did not even have a model for him at the time he was awakened - you could see pics of him as a giant naked human on guild websites at the time (the Sleeper is a dragon btw)

-The GMs had no idea if he was supposed to be killable or was just supposed to begin a chain of events by disappearing then popping down to Skyshrine and beating the piss out of the first brood dragon Lord Yelinak (good communication between devs and in-game support)

The point was  SOE has a history of not following through and releasing completed content, not whether or not the Sleeper was meant to be killed...

EQ2 is gonna be another great game that will bring the next generation of MMORPG, for the WoW fanboys all i can say is that WoW will not live up to ur guys expectations. WoW is a good game but has nothing new that ppl will be interested in. EQ2 brings tons more new content into hte MMORPG world, and ppl like me and other who are actualy real gamers know that the only game that survives is the one with enough content to make u play nonstop and even if stop u will be back to it.

Who's to say EQ2 will have the most content? Who's to say WoW will have the most content?

Neither game is out yet so this is pure speculation. You say all you want but we won't know for sure until both games are released.

Having a lot of classes is NEVER a good thing. Although it adds variety, it creates two massive problems:

    a) balance is always a continuing problem, resulting in constant nerfing and tweaking

    b) classes that are least popular get the least amount of attention (like spiritmasters in daoc)

Thus, I highly prefer games where there are fewer classes, but they are all unique with their own play styles and purposes, making balancing the game much easier.

    Played: AC1, DAoC, E&B, SWG
Tested: AC1, AC2, DAoC, Eve, Planetside, Rubies, Lineage 2

Also don't forget the Watered down effect. Certain classes in name might be different but when you see their abilities, skills and spells... they'll have almost the exact same things as another class. That always happens in games with lots of classes and seeing how EQ2 will have 4 base classes, I guarantee this will happen in EQ2 (it happened in EQ1 already).

And technically only the models and textures are new. The engine is old.

Are you just, like, making stuff up ? Read this:

What 3D engine will EQII use?
EverQuest II utilizes a proprietary 3D engine, which was developed in-house by the EverQuest II programming team. The EverQuest II engine takes full advantage of current, cutting-edge 3D hardware, as well as future hardware technology.

WTH would you think this is an old engine?  Have you seen the screens?  If you know something I don't, quote a source.

Well i've played Blizzard games for a while and i just dislike them...They can't seem to make up their minds on the littlest patches for DiabloII so i don't see how their going to get anything done for WoW...don't get me wrong the games are decent But Blizzard it self is a joke...They make one game than totally forget about it and move onto the Next and forcus most of their staffs on that game..i mean patch 1.10 for DiabloII took years to come out...and as far as EverQuest...i've played EQ for pc and played Eqoa...both i find to be very fun i love EQ games i find them very enjoyable...but a mmorpg from blizzard...well thats just shocking my jaw dropped and said "why" when i first heard of it...i honestly think people are putting to much fate into a game like WoW cause when it comes time for its release you all who have gotten it will wish you never wasted a cent on that game once its release date and 1 month into it you will be wishing you havent spent a cent on it...and as far as EQ i expect good things from them just cause i believe EQ games are the best on the market....

What do you expect? The game is free to play online and while Blizzard was patching up Diablo, they also made patches for Starcraft and Warcraft at the same time so don't say the move on and forget about their previous games because that simply isn't true.

Also note that Diablo 2 was made by Blizzard North... not the same team of devs who are making WoW so don't expect to see the same problems Diablo 2 had in WoW.

You are right. I am sorry. Most of my info has been word of mouth for the past 3 years about how this game was being made. I thought Maya was a basic graphical engine that could be modified. But it is instead a modelling tool, and is indeed used in EQ2 to create the models. While this substantially improves my feelings about the game, I do keep in mind that Star Wars Galaxies looked nice too but has some really screwy controls sometimes.

the only reason I'm interested in MMORPG's period is because of WoW.  Evercrack?  EQ2, I didn't even know they were working on EQ2!  I'll admit that blizzard says "we'll have this and that." then later it only has "that."  They also say " we have this moderately cool item you can find at one in 5 billion chance in finding."  They give you a backscratcher and act like it's the holt grail!  WC3 was supposed to have 7 playable races, but later scaled down to 4.  I wouldn't be suprised if they nixed hunters.

Screenshots, whopee...  are there in game videos?  that's what I want to see!  Like people actually going in and hacking stuff up.

    K. saw the in-game video and it is pretty good.  But not super cool.  Doesn't look that much better than WoW IMO.

Hmm it feels as if EQ2 is copying WoW and not the either way round.

Just thought I would throw this site in. An EQ2 fan guild have compiled this information from lots and lots and lots of dev posts. I was opting for WoW before I found this site, but the information here basicly covers everything that has been confirmed about EQ2 by the devs. I suggest everyone reads it, as I think if we are to have civilised discussions about MMORPGs, we need to know all of the facts.

    http://clanwhitestorm.com/eq2info/index.htm

I found that WoW information was a lot easy to get hold of than EQ2 information, but the admins of this site have done an amazing job at accumulating all of this. Even if you are not a fan of EQ2, I still suggest you read this.

From what is written there, I was certainly converted to the ways of EQ2. So read it! We'll make EQ2 fanboys out of you all!

Yeah... EQ2 will be a great game by far but all EQ is is level grinding therefore WoW with its rest system will overtake EQ.
