Stealth is in!

Or so it seems i would show you my source but they took it down. It was in Pauls video blog but they removed it.

EDIT: All the video was paul introducing some guy saying heres the man that brought you stealth, and then it cut off. So yea it can mean anything.

I saw the source, and personally I think it was put there specifically to piss off people who search for the newsletter links before they are officially released.

It is quite clever, really - mess with the heads of the people who are snooping around. It is like counter-intelligence.

There is still a heap of sources where EA Mythic state there will be no stealth, and the fact this source was not even meant to be found yet and was taken down seems to support it being a trick.

i really hope there is no stealth...that was one of the games stronger points IMHO

I voted against any kind of stealth.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

Ah ... and what, pray tell, did they say about completely reversing their stand on stealth which they have had for years now?

Or did your memory of the comments vanish as conveniently as the the blog did?

That link, btw, has been up for hours on Only-WAR.com and it was never working -- therefore it was never "taken down."

It is true. You can even check how the links are numbered and can notice there is no 14 - it goes from 13 to 15 now.

Video 14 was the source, but its link was removed and later the video itself was removed.

At any rate, I still believe this was EA Mythic having fun at our expense, and I cannot blame them. These assets were not supposed to be seen yet and were only obtained through snooping. No one, as far as I know, even has the actual newsletter yet.

ummm bit confusing. I really dont care: if the game is fine, dont care about stealth while balanced.

Perhaps lets wait for a beta? also... no matter what they said before, things can change: some people said that WaR was sure released at the end of last year... SURE and that they will not change the release data... things can change... we can see it in aoc that they, after developing, cut down two classes and changed the combat system.

Just curious, why do people hate stealth so much?  I personally haven't spent much time playing stealth classes, and they irritate me when they're played well against me, but I never saw it as such a problem that they should be removed entirely.  Usually they are fairly soft targets with low armor anyway, so if you can survive their initial attack, they're dead.  As long as there are tools to counter them, it's just one more layer to overall strategy.

But, I've always thought a much more realistic approach would be to do away with huge floating names over everyone's head.  Then stealth would be about what it's about in RL - hide behind some cover, sneak, wear armor that blends in with the environment, etc.  Using a WoW example, a gnome mage should be able to hide much easier than a large male NE rogue.   But no, she's got her name in flashing red letters sticking out from behind the tree she hiding behind, screaming "KILL HERE."  It is a bit dumb to have a character completely invisible when he's in the middle of an open field surrounded by enemies -unless maybe it's a magic user with some kind of invisibility spell or some such.

yes, but then its no "stealth" just hide. And perhaps they put this kind of sneak on the game. And with this system (that I found really nice) will be any difference between a warrior, wizard, healer, cleric or any class? I mean, since d&d cames out stealth is a thing that almost everyone can use, but, only few can master it.

If we get this hide method, dont you think it can be a bit "buggy" or "tricky" in some zones, or for some players between the class? dont you think that this way it will be really unbalanced cause "tanks" can hide as "Damage dealers" too, but it is not the same for a tank to appear from stealth behind a tree and enter melee as a caster that deals better in range?

Paul's Video Blog for January is back up.

Now ... which one of the 17 videos contained this "stealth" information?

Perhaps some classes would have an advantage due to armor design.  Clearly if you're in big shiny plate, it will be hard to hide in some bushes (just like RL).  And if you're in bright flowy caster robes with glittery auras, you'll stick out in that pile of leaves.  But if you're in black leather armor with black weapons, etc., you can better hide.  It would just make hiding a skill instead of a button click.  And from what I read on these forums, most of us want more skill and less simple button clicking.

Of course you can already hide in games without stealth, but you just have to make sure your giant floating neon nametag is hidden to be effective.   Pretty unrealistic.

    *sigh*

    No one reads.

As I explained earlier in this thread, look at the bloody link numbers. Notice how it goes to 18 but there are only 17 videos? Notice how it goes from 13 to 15 with no 14?

14 was the video. It was removed, but the videos were not renumbered.

The source is now gone, but it did exist, and anyone can plainly see the evidence of its removal.

Again, I firmly believe this was done to mess with people's heads because they know people snoop.

Oh, and Witch Elves having stealth makes the least sense of all careers - they are not subtle, at all.

Is it real? Is it a trick meant to fool people? Is it a masterful piece of marketing which will now be endlessly debated on forums all over the gaming world?

Maybe a bit of all three.

I'd prefer there be no stealth, in fact, I'd be amazed if it was in the game now and it was kept secret, someone would break the NDA somewhere, and we'd know about it.  So I'm guessing if they plan to have it, its not there yet.

But then again, we just don't know, now  do we.  Adds to the suspense I guess.

I'm playing the game whether its there or not, so doesn't really matter.

The biggest problem if this turns out to be true is Mythics credibility which, for me, wasn't high anymore to begin with after spending 3 years with them in Daoc.

Edit: I *saw* the video by the way, it was definately paul introducing someone saying "And this is the man that brought you .... STEALTH" in his usual propagandic mannner *however* the video cut off straight after that and that's all it was.

They have said over and over and over that they are NOT having stealth.

If they were to change that fact so late in development...

nah, I'll still play no matter what they do with stealth.

I plan on playing every single character type lol.
