Oh good god THERE IS NO STEALTH!!

  • RaztorRaztor Member Posts: 670

Is there any stealth classes in the Warhammer lore? I never followed it so can't comment, but it would give us an idea of how it might be implemented.

  • LeucentLeucent Member Posts: 2,371

No there isn t and THERE WON T BE STEALTH

IF they bring some stealth in the game...

It would only work vs PvE mobs, not players.  Stealth is extremely interesting in PvE, not necessarily for a class and not as a permanent ability necessarily, but it is FUN to be stealth in PvE (and maybe some mobs see throught it...hehehe)

    Don't expect stealth for PvP.

(That is a big IF, I am not sure they care enought about PvE to bring some stealth for PvE...but who know?)

If you mean as a rogue in EQ or a stalker in CoV, no.

But 1 of the main magic school is focused on illusions, and invisibility (spell) is there in quite many variants.  I have no idea if there will be any illusion spells, or illusionists.

But my guess would be that illusionists would be linked to PvE stuff, and all the benefits they give to players (buffs), only in PvE....  IF, it ever make it.

It is easy to justify it is NPC only however, as magic is not that spreaded in the Warhammer world (not rare, but not that spread either, witch hunting is a comon practice in some areas)...so 1 school been barred to players, not hard at all to justify.

I hate stealth.  People should not be able to disappear while standing in the middle of a giant open field.  But I've accepted the fact that it is a common occurrence in mmo's, and have accepted it, even played a couple classes with stealth.

But, based on my knowledge of Warhammer lore (which is limited to tabletop and the requisite army books), the only characters with any kind of stealth were assassins (who just did in groups of normal troops and popped out to attack leaders, and were then visible for rest of fight) and certain recon/scout type classes who were deployed closer to enemy armies without opponent's knowledge, but were visible as soon as fight started and stayed that way.

I would prefer to not see stealth in this game, but whether it's in or not will not deter me from playing this game, and subsequently falling in love with it or despising it for all eternity.

If stealth is in (which I do not believe it is - at least not in the way people are assuming) then it will most likely work identically for both PvP and PvE.  They are trying to keep the two as seamless as possible so I don't see them invoking differing mechanics between the two.  There really is no need.

As for the 'The man who brought you stealth' comment that is now missing - they could simply be referring to the way WAR implements stealth and the guy who came up with it (such as not showing up on radar as has been theorized).  There is no reason stealth has to equal invisible.

An invisibility spell cast on you inside a PvE instance by a NPC?

    Need I extrapolate more?

You lose the buff if you exit the instance, you can only get it inside the instance.  Then you have stealth for an instance in PvE (or many/all instances), and not for PvP.  An object which emulate Stealth but only when it is close to *insert whatever artefact you want*, this happens to be in a PvE surrounding only...

The examples and ways to put stealth in PvE without affecting PvP are...quite numerous.

I am not saying it will happen or not.  I am just saying that it may happen and the devs have never said, anywhere, that such stuff wouldn't happen.  They say there was no playable stealth class because it ruins PvP...or something among these lines. :P

oh i know, its just a pretty big addition so late on dont you think, especially when AoC pipped war for awards at conventions around the world end of summertime.

Anyway, i think tis going to be fun if stealth is really they implement it just like AoC's implementation, just like they copied spellweaving too...

like i said - shaping up to be a totally different game from when i first read about it 2yrs ago.

    This is retarded.

The Skaven assassins(?) or DE assassins were the only classes that were able to stealth, and even then they were only able to hide if they were in the middle of a large group of soliders. All of the Dark Elf classes were announced right? And none of them were close to the Assassin. And remember Mythic needs consent of Games Workshop before they can tweak a certain thing in the lore for the game, and if they don't like an idea they aren't going to approve it. And since the entire TT game was about fielding VISIBLE armies they're probably going to want all the classes visible to their opponents. This is Warhammer not Ninjaworld.

    Bollocks!

So the developer's had a slip of the old tongue?

Was there any specifics on which class or classes might have stealth abilities? *cough*

Just wondering since the cat was let and put back in the bag

I wonder if Paul was given the "okay" to actually launch that (why was it pulled, again?).

I am not sure what class would have a form of stealth. Also i do not understand why it was pulled either.

If stealth is in, then I am out. I was already half way over the fence to not try this due to the interest by the WoW community in the game but bad community+stealth=abandon ship. The sad thing is, I used to play rogues exclusively since EQ. WoW made me absolutely hate them with an undying passion, both playing one and dealing with them.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was some kind of tease fake info video to make us crazy and pump up the hype for the game a bit more but all I can say is the video *was* there and it most certainly was paul saying it (heck it was him lol), however it was only a short clip of 12 secs or so with exactly that line

So it's either a very freaky way to play with the people or some sneak introduction

I bet the Stealth is only good for scouting.

Joking is fun and all, but what was Mythic thinking with this one?

"Hey Bubba!  Y'know whaddibe reely funny?"

    "Nah, Enos!  What?"

"Let's throw a firecrakker inna tank 'o gasoleen!"

" Shoot!  That DOES sound funny!"

Is it really that hard to guess the result?   About as hard to guess as the reaction to this mysterious video.

Ah well, no real harm done and if they removed the video that quickly then clearly someone came to their senses.

Look at it this way, when we're all playing WAR we can look back and laugh about it.   After everyone gets out of the burn ward

  • pust082pust082 Member Posts: 157

I dont care one way or the other about stealth in WAR. I like to play a Ranger, but I can play one in another game. Ill play something else in WAR.

I just want to see you all be wrong about the "There will never be stealth in WAR!!!!".

I cant lie. I would smile at that.
