There is a game out there, that while I have not played myself... raises the bar of MMO complexity to a new level. I have a buddy who plays Wurm Online and that game is freaking insane. Talk about huge.  The freedom, the complexity the vastness of this game make progression very difficult and demanding on your time.

If I were rich and jobless, I would give this game a shot just out of curiosity but alas its too much for me.

Nuf said.  I mean it's the worst game ever imo, but it's hard to master.

Well, if we consider mastering as knowing everything about the game mechanics, gl doing it in EVE. There are more then hundred ships some of which cost billions, require different fitting, monthes worth skill training and long learning course.

People don't really talk about WoW heroic hard-modes, so I'm guessing that doesn't count.

judging from some of these peoples responses on the forums, and adding your mastery requirement for EVE, then it's a wonder why half the population isnt a master at it.

When discussing the mastery of a subject, one is referring to the command and grasp of it.They are talking about expert skill or knowledge. It's safe to say that anyone who feels that cannot be the definition, and as a result takes the stance that they consider the dictionary to be wrong or incorrect, can be ignored for the sake of constructively moving forward.

Reaching a cap is not mastery. Understanding and being able to apply all that was learned along the way is mastery.

This, playing EVE is like trying to understand a retarded dog with the manual of a deranged Russian professor as your guide.

It's super complicated, but at the end of the day he's still retarded and everyone still laughs at you for talking to a dog.

umm.... attacks aimed themselves in Asheron's Call.  You could dodge, but not aim.

    Hardest MMORPG to Master?
    .
I'll have to go with... none of them.
    .
Civilization IV is hard to master. MMOs are simply so that the masses can play them. Some are more tedious than others is all.

I find it funny so many people say eve. Honestly eve is not hard to master. It does have alot of content that may take soem time for people to learn , but its not hard. Money is easy, mine , pve same fight over and over, trade via systems. I make more money in eve then i can ever use and i do it 100% solo, can i buy everyhting well maybe not but i can't fly the stuff i can't buy becuase i don't want to pay for a sub for 2 years just to fly a ship ... which also takes no skill just real time and money. Ship combat take some skill but not a ton as often pvp in eve is the exact same as in wow if they got this and that and you got those and these you basicly can't lose or win. Now there is soem skill but most of it is setting up ur ship which, someone can just tell you hhow to do and thus requires no skill. (It could but doesn't have too).

If id rate any mmo on skill of what to do, split second decission, pre-palnning, strat, and character control Id say DAOC is easily the hardest to master. (more or less so for some classes, but still suffers from some imbalances between what you are facing /have) Id say daoc surpases eve in mastery in that it takes a ton of strat and prep, but also a ton of control over the games avatar, which eve truely does not have. This is not to say eves learn curve is not higher, but thats not mastery. I don't concider my self a master of daoc... i know im not there are players that are really good and just know what to do and have the sbility to pull it off, its not easy. In eve i feel with the same ship i can stand up to more than most players in pvp and most fights will be close.

    My two cents.

Anyone twitch aiming mmo also but i haven't seen one yet (ps and GA are not very twitch, and there really are not good hit boxes that make skill important).

P.S. isn't eve second gensis a tradign card game if i remember? Or was that its orginal name?

ffxi comes close, but i'll have to say eve as well.

people who say eve's easy because they figured out how to do one or 2 things are making a mistake.  what they really mean is "mastering activity x in eve is easy" but they get that all conflated to mean "eve is easy".

eve ain't easy and i'm glad; it makes it more rewarding.

the ship combat of potbs was challenging to master, but the avatar combat was a button squishathon.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

I would have to say the mmo called Growing Up.    What I've seen from a certain game's playerbase, the  juvenile retorts, trolling, and rudeness here; I'd say alot of people have a rough time with the Social skillset.

EVE and both Final Fantasy MMOs. And under that Age of Conan, that was a bit of a learning curve, but less so than the two ones above. EVE is still hard for me to play, so much to learn.

Maybe im mistaken but hard or easy .. not the issue but how hard it is to master is ... i don't know anything in eve that is hard to master. But if you say so. Over all eve maybe a challenging game but as i was saying more by its large amount of content than hard to master content and possible interations with ganking , when you don't know how to avoid ganks. But thats not hard to learn or master.

So to say eve is hard to master i think it sould not be easy to master x activity ... becuase when x activity is every activity i know in eve. well id call that not hard to master.

There's no such thing as a hard MMO. Let alone one to master.

Sit and click long enough and voi'la; you win @ <insert MMO title here>

WoW, EVE, EQ, UO, Shadowbane, this and that whatever. None of them are designed to be truly difficult in a way that's require 'mastering' or gaining a master skill level in playing. At all of their basic design is table-top RPG where minimal effort in cause and effect game play was gave meaning by their setting and having fun with others telling a story.

Checkers, Old Maid, pick the shell with the ball in it.. > Skill wise than even the best MMOs.

They're mindless fun to lose some free time to in this modern age. It takes as much skill to read a magazine article as it takes to play a MMORPG.

I'd agree with a lot of other people here - I believe EvE is probably the hardest to master.
