Alienware's just a big name brandname now and arent particularely good compared to anything else, you are payin for the name, what
As for the topic, I am glad devs are making games for the future, not games that will be outdated and craptastic in 2 years. I'm sure most of you have played the older mmos out there.. ao, eq, etc etc.. do we want our current mmos to look that way to us in a few years as the technology vastly outdoes anything we have today? I prefer they make the games to be ahead of the curve.
Today's 2000$ rig will be next years 150$ flee market bargain item.
If somebody actually buys that rig they need to be smacked. I'm sorry but a 30$ motherboard and a 25$ PSU will never, ever be in any of my computers, that's absolute trash.
I can't believe how many people still diss Vista. I run Vista Ultimate 64 Bit and it far out performs the 32 Bit brother and as for XP... I have it on a partition but rarely use it.
If there are people worried about Vista I would suggest partition a HDD and have them all. Hell while you are at it install a real OS and put on Linux
Hell, Vista is sooo easy it does everything for you. The only problems start to occur with Vista is if your system is outdated by a number of years
or get a display driver BSD which there is no fix for now matter how much you try...go ahead..search it out. If you find a fix....please let me know!
I don't need to search for a fix - mine aint broke
yup...but like i said Vista is garbage...DX10 is keeping it on life support....PC heads are having just a big of an issue with Vista as casual users. Hell Microsoft extended service for XP till 2014 in January rather than the original date of 2009...due to the fact that Vista sales are horrible due to bad programming. It will take years to put it back together

Alienware used to make top notch high end PC's for a moderate price. Now all they do is sell half decent PC's at a top end price going off the back of their once great product...
I hope AOC will be a futureproof MMO as far as one can get. There is too many today that do not hold my attention for a great length of time or I go and comeback when I'm less bored
Sigh. Everything I hear makes me think the system requirements are what is going to kill the sales potential of this game.
WoW and other popular MMO's are big largely because they run fine on practically anything.
It's great and all that AoC is supposed to be next gen, but personally I'd rather have a popular game that looks decent, instead of one that looks incredible but fails.
there comes a time in every gamers life when they HAVE TO GET A NEW PC to run the newer better games its a fact of gamer life get use to it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that's true, but that is one of the reason why many PC games fail.
An MMORPG does not need super graphics. It needs accessibility to succeed.
@ OP: I wouldn't go so cheap on the mobo and PSU, and you don't need to throw in an OS because everyone already has one so they can just port it over to the new system...but yes Newegg is the best.
I recently built a new rig from newegg for $487.38 without mail-in rebates factored in. i had a new mobo, ram, video card, case, cpu, and psu.

yep. just wait till open beta you'll hear some crying going on then i promise you.
I've built 7 computers in the last 3 years and never had a problem. I have friends who build their own computers and never had a problem.
it is rather easy, I built my first one without help from anyone. I just read up online and BANG it worked.
This year I built 3 ... one for my dad for his birthday, one for my son for his birthday and then mine ... built to get as much out of Age of Conan as possible

That couldn't be further from the truth. Graphics are not what makes games fail, considering every MMO on the market has scalability. You don't need a super powered PC to run games like AoC, but you certainly can't be driving a six year old goat bus of a computer either.
If you're a gamer and the game is a great one, you will upgrade accordingly. A MMORPG cannot have super graphics as a static graphics setting. It woulld be impossible to run Crysis as a MMO. Is it possible to do something like that? Yes. Would even your more hardcore gamers with uber rigs be watching slide-shows? Yes.
As time goes on, technology gets better. Gamers upgrade. Games have better graphics. If you can't afford intermediate upgrades to keep up, you need to get yourself out of that Burger King job.
Holy crap, this poster could NOT be more right. I believe anyone who argues this fact is either A) A casual gamer, or A console gamer. Gaming is not something you should be doing casually, and if you are go where the newbies are, the console. If your going to be a gamer atleast take pride in your medium and learn how to build a PC. It's so easy a MORON can do it. (Yes, Xbox gamers I mean you)
Think about it like this, imagine someone racing cars for years on end, and wanting to be the best race car driver there is yet never knowing how their car works or ever being able to repair or build a car. Does that make sense to you? Every race car driver I've known has been a pretty damn good mechanic.
I'm pretty sure that having a new mmorpg or game with better graphics does not mean lack of accessibility, more or less it means more gamers will be pushed to get new hardware, which in the end pushes the entire industry forward. And yet...console gamers are always left in the dust. Hehe, I bet they can't even tell a stick of bubble gum from a stick of RAM. Sad sad people...
umm sorry vista is still a horrible OS even if you know the ins and outs of computers. I have 2 guild members plagued with the BSD Vista is cursed...and guarantee you it will be replaced or had have a MAJOR overhaul before xp stops getting support in 2014. If it wasn't for DX10 Vista would have been dead and buried already.
Whatever! I have been using Vista since it went public and with a few driver issues at first .. it has been running smooth ever since. Vista had less problems than XP when it came out. But I am sure you wont believe me. I honestly dont care, I just wanted to make sure others know that Vista DOES work

how long will it take for a 9800 gx2 to be outdated?
honestly i think it will take awhile...there hasnt been a big jump in graphics performance in years...people running 7900GT's are doing just fine in most games....and nothing has pushed me to upgrade my 8800GTS yet.....so that 9800 Gx2 will stick around for awhile im sure
I'm almost wondering if I should list the Gaming Computer i built for myself , I spent about 10.5 Grand Building it up too where I needed it at
how did you spend 10.5 g(other than not building it yourself) if i bought all the best i wanted with 24inch+ monitor i could maybe get it to 5-6g. but 10.5 holy crap better be 1 awesome pc for that price.

Why do we always have to play on the highest settings? I, for example, play LotRo mostly on low and have a lot of fun.
