I will be the first to admit, I was looking forward to BOTH AoC and WAR. I was burnt out on Warcraft, and the current crop of recently released MMORPGs have been underwhelming. HOwever, as I have been following these two games over the last year it was pretty clear that they would likely be released around the same time. As such, I was planning on Going with WAR (For many reasons, those threads abound on this board). If , for some reason, I disliked WAR I would then turn my attentions to AOC.
I will also be the first to say that WAR and AoC are two VERY different games. Very different mechanics and they appeal to different player types. However, they are equal in ONE major area...They are both NOT WARCRAFT, and I submit to you that this fact will be a major driving force.
A similar release date is longer the case. I find myself now looking at AoC and the #1 choice. To try and to embrace and If , for some reason, I disliked AoC I would then turn my attentions to WAR.
Anyone else have similar plans?

Hey ya....
Well I have allways whanted to buy AOC, before WHs release. And now WH will not get in my way. Then there is only this feeling left in me. That say will AOC be the game for me, the game that will take over the feeling DAOC have left in me - and that I hoped for in WH.
lol daoc at least had open zones
The question only really effects those who are interested in both games and are sitting on the fence as to which one to play. These individuals will more then likely end up getting both anyway. If the history of video game marketing shows anything it's that being the first to market does not ensure market dominance, just a couple of months of no compitition.
I know what DAOC had and dont have
DAOC has the nerf masters(Mythic)
No effect on my decision, I was going to play them both. In fact, it solves a conflict I had...didn't really want to start AOC and then have to switch to WAR a few months later. Now I expect I'll have 5-6 months to really put into AOC before WAR comes out (Nov at the soonest I predict) which more than enough time for me to max level at least one character so I can check out the endgame.

Are you trying to imply that either one of these games doesn't have open zones? Because Uh, they both do.. so I don't really understand what you're trying to say..
I was planning on buying both though I'm really only moderately curious about AoC.
What I do like seeing is more MMORPGs out there to give some competition to WoW. The MMORPG genre has traditionally been one major game at any one time, I'd like to see it reach the point where there are several choices of major games for players.
As others have said AoC and WAR are sufficiently different games that one can buy both and decide which one fits you best. I really enjoyed REH's books and I'd like to see what Funcom does with them, but for a video game I think I'll find the more over-the-top setting of Warhammer more interesting.
Edit: topic at hand is slightly different.
No problems. They're both months apart anyways and I do see myself buying them both IF the trials are fun
One scenario I see happening is that AoC launches as currently scheduled, has a bad launch, and then WAR has more intrest then ever. EAMythic may be betting on a bad launch for AoC.

Sounds good, more time to try both
Ditto. This just spreads it out nicely for me.

Also, I tend to stay in the game that was last released if no other title comes out for a while. If this year's lineup is AoC>WAR>Aion, maybe WAR can push their release back even more for people like me?
Will go with my original plan and buy TCoS,Thought I would add this in as the OP didnt include this mmo that is also due for release.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Was already getting both anyway. Plan on preordering AoC soon.

Yes but only because I was intending to play both ( multi game guild ) anyways.
I was worried about Warhammers release being close to AoC, but not now. So i pre-ordered AoC and also pre-ordered CE Warhammer. Good profit day for gamestop .
I will of course try out both games, I cannot decide wich game I'm going to give all my sparetime before I've tried them out. And those two games are not the only ones that I'm intrested in.
Hell I'm scared that AoC's videos may look shiny, but they're filming it on a great comp so it sucks people in. Then when you play it, you find it's not that seamless and worked out. I'm gonna wait for WAR right now.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

I will be playing AoC and warhammer when it comes out. Its just pretty sad have to wait another long time for war now.
All those videos saying YES it will release Q2, then December they said would release Q1. Oh well we know not to trust any mmo company now with release dates.
I feel a bit pissed off about a few things. If they can combat all the negative previews and make a good game then it will do well. I mean releasing in the next month or two would be suicide with crafting just gone in, no siege testing, not all classes in game, bad animations and rvr lacking objectives are just some of the massive things that need work on I hear and read.
At least EAMythic released their game would release sucky, which some have pointed out here for a while and are taking steps to improve the magic that is warhammer.
