AOC will not be released with Border Kingdoms or siege in the game for at least 3 months after release so really you will be playing a PVE game with consensual dueling.
Got any proof? no?
Didnt realise PvP on the Open PvP server was consensual
mind if I add you to the list of people to laugh at, you can be #2 next to martie.
PS. i'll still be trying WAR when it releases with my guild
Hence why we you Avery. It is hard to completely ignore topics like this no matter how much we want to because you see so many false things being stated.
One scenario I see happening is that AoC launches as currently scheduled, has a bad launch, and then WAR has more intrest then ever. EAMythic may be betting on a bad launch for AoC.
You mean like AO had a horible launch which made the launch of DAoC look so much smoother? I doubt that AoC launch could be as bad as AO launch was but it is interesting that the last time these 2 companies released games it was AO a few months ahead of DAoC.
Oh, planning on skipping AoC, preordered CE WAR today.
Originally posted by WiccanCircle I don't understand how people can say that AOC or WAR isn't their cup to tea. I personally can't tell much about a game from what I read on the boards or in interviews.
It might not be only game mechanics that influence someone's decision, it could be the setting or art style. AoC is going for a gritty barbarian, ancient human kingdom setting. WAR is going for an over-the-top dark fantasy setting.
There are some people who refuse to touch WoW simply because they can't stand looking at the Blizzard's art style. I like the style but I can see how someone who doesn't like it might not want to pay money to stare at it for hours on end.
I think the world settings of both games will be interesting, but I've read REH's Conan stories and I always have personal notions when I do that. The games seldom match those notions when I play. I was the same way with LotRO. But that might not bother other people and they'll be fine with AoC.
For me, Warhammer is more like a RPG setting rather than a single author's vision, so maybe that's why I don't mind seeing yet another version of it in a MMORPG.
Seems like AoC is going to be the better MMORPG anyway.
When they were first announced I felt Warhammer was going to be the better game but as time moves on it seems like Warhammer is getting worse and worse... I was really excited about the game when it was first announced but as these guys reveal more and more about it, the less it appeals to me.
Most of the folks on this forum seem to be in denial about Warhammer - if you're thinking War is going to be a great PvP game think again - PvEers have got their wallets out and their name is LEGION. Mark me and listen well: "PvP will be pushed to the back burners as Warhammer progresses. The majority of content will be PvE orientated."

I will be the first to admit, I was looking forward to BOTH AoC and WAR. I was burnt out on Warcraft, and the current crop of recently released MMORPGs have been underwhelming. HOwever, as I have been following these two games over the last year it was pretty clear that they would likely be released around the same time. As such, I was planning on Going with WAR (For many reasons, those threads abound on this board). If , for some reason, I disliked WAR I would then turn my attentions to AOC. I will also be the first to say that WAR and AoC are two VERY different games. Very different mechanics and they appeal to different player types. However, they are equal in ONE major area...They are both NOT WARCRAFT, and I submit to you that this fact will be a major driving force. A similar release date is longer the case. I find myself now looking at AoC and the #1 choice. To try and to embrace and If , for some reason, I disliked AoC I would then turn my attentions to WAR. Anyone else have similar plans? Torrential
What are you talking about? A good game needs time! I can ensure you that WAR will success, more than AOC, and what do you mean;
I will also be the first to say that WAR and AoC are two VERY different games. Very different mechanics and they appeal to different player types. However, they are equal in ONE major area...They are both NOT WARCRAFT, and I submit to you that this fact will be a major driving force.
Ofcourse your not the first one who said and meant that,or even figure it out..
Hate people gicing up a game just because the delay.. Look at final fantasy, they had delays. Still the biggest console rpg game in the world.. 1 reason, they spent time on their game.. Well i can agree with you that it su* when delays apears.. but have patient.. War is coming!
I was going to get both especially as due to a mistake from GAME.co.uk I have managed to preorder AoC for £15 ($30) and I have pre-ordered a collectors edition of WAR for £40 ($80).
I have a feeling that WAR didn't want to release right on top of AoC (which also has slid and slid in it's release date) and that 6 months of playing a MMO people will start looking for another one and WAR will be released now right in the xmas window, extra slaes due to presents being bought?
This delay is actually a good thing for mythic. People will buy unfinished game aka AoC, play it, see that it's crap and only get more hyped about WAR,

Yeah, I guess you are right that the graphic style could be a deal breaker for some people. I personally think that a good game is a good game despite its graphics (up to a certain point). Both games will likely have good visuals. The cartoon one looks a lot like an updated World of Warcraft to my eye. So visually Conan looks nicer, but I will see what the characters are like and make my choices for which game based on that.
Not that the population can completely make or break a game, but it is something tangable to the player. I don't know what WAR is?? I read that it is a Pen & Paper game?? I guess I missed that one. Played some D&D in early school and again, like a nerdette we did it for a winter in college. The guys seemed to get a kick out of having a girl around for the 'Nerdvana' sessions.
I didn't read any of the Conan books, didn't even know there were books to be honest. But I did see a movie or two with "Aaaarrnoollld" back in the pre-dawn of history. So I really don't have much in pre-conceptions for AoC. I did read most of the Gorean novels (for reasons that will not be develed in to here {Blush} ) So I am going to make a guess that Conan is something along those lines. Though I didn't see a character class for Red Silk listed

Exactly my plan and situation. I was choosing between the 2 since I like to dedicate to one game and WAR was going to be my choice, now I'll give AoC some play time and it's either going to hook me or I'll move on to WAR after a few months. But if AoC is a decent enough game and if all my old guildies stick around then I'll stay with it.
I've been following these games for years, but since AoC will be released sooner that's #1 in my shopping list at the moment. Who knows, if it's a great game, I don't buy WAR at all. I'm not "mmorpg hopper", I play the game I enjoy, usually for years. That doesen't keep me from trying other games tho.
I'll definitely be picking up AOC. That means I will have time invested in the game between AOC's launch and launch of WAR. So in order for WAR to continue gettng my money, it will have to be better than AOC due to time invested.
Only thing I could see changing this equation is if gameplay/fun is equal but AOC's female avatars looked like transvestites, which from what I've seen so far that is the case. If that were to occur, well, I can't stare at a man/chicks ass all day.
What's wierd to me is some people, based on feedback of the screenshots, actually like the man/chick thing. To each his own I guess.

I think the female avatars in AoC look hot, and not like the usual Barbey look in most mmos like Lineage 2. They have a exotic persian look in AoC.
I really havent the time to play two MMORPGs, and to be honest AoC appeals to me more as a 'true' MMORPG game anyhow.
To answer earlier concerns, even if AoC dosent release with the Border Kingdoms etc in place, whats the harm? For the hardcore PvPers, well they get a whole server if they wanna play that way, and for the rest of us? We get 2-3 months to learn the game, establish our characters/ friends/ guilds, and learn to build towns before the land grab starts for the keeps. As long as the Border Kingdoms et al are in place by the time WAR goes gold all will be good.
I really have no interest in trying WAR anymore, and the delay was the final nail in the coffin that has turned me 100% towards AoC. I am English and grew up with Warhammer Fantasy Battle from when I was a kid when I used to buy my gaming gear from the (then) only GW shop in Hammersmith, so I have quite a lot of time for the company and it's table top games, but WAR just looks like a souped up Dungeon Runners to me right now. Maybe if they had launched at the same time as AoC with good reviews I would have had a second look.
Im just gonna play warhammer when it comes out. AOC looks good but i dont want buy a game im only gonna play couple months then quit. I dont feel like having several open accounts open with different games.
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR. Playing EVE Online and AOC. Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD
Would buy it anyway.. already have preordered both.. there's many many months in between the 2 releases, more than enough time to get my money's worth in entertainment value off AoC even if it doesn't work out as MY mmo. Dunno what you people's problems are, with your either/or philosophy, there's plenty of time for trying both, until the next big shiny new thing comes along
I think this really helps both games out, honestly.
Some people were only going to buy one or the other, now they may try both. OR they may have had plans to buy both, but if they get into AoC (because it launches first) and love it... WAR may lose some potential customers.
I wasn't even going to try AoC, to be honest. So far, the mentality of some of the 'kids' that are looking to play that game really put me off of it. (Think 'Barrens Chat' with more Redbull and crack involved.)
Some players may not have had the time or perhaps cash to try both games at once. That's nearly a non-issue at this point.
Also, WAR being launched closer to the holidays may help sales... not sure about that. But launching a time-sink during the warm and nice summer months ony helps to convince more kids that 'the Sun really is trying to kill them'.
I think the delay is a good thing. I hate when two competing genre's of MMORPG's are released in a similar time frame. I am a fan of both so it will be nice to give AoC a run for awhile and them move onto WAR. Of course if AoC ends up sucking the big donkey dong then it is going to be a long wait...

Right now Age of Conan is a turd on a stick.
Perhaps they can make it work in a couple of months, but I have serious doubts.
.............
I am definitely going to give AoC a go now. I wasn't going to if WAR came out in Q2, but hey it's good news for Funcom
Seems like AoC is going to be the better MMORPG anyway.

I would not call Warhammer being delayed. Anyone who has followed these games knows its unlikley either game will release this year.

Warhammer is a amazing game, many people will be really surprised when they play it.
Lots of innovation in WAR
I play all ghame
Unfortunately, more I hear and see about WAR the worse it seems, complete opposite of AoC. And before you flame me, I am fan of these both games.
