I will try it, but if there was a reason I wouldn't play it would be that it is being dumbed down to a level ease to compete with WoW and try to pull over some percentage of the mindless zombies that make up that games populace.
EDIT** Sorry for my previous statements I had just seen a video and screenshots of WAR where the UI Health/Stamina and other aspects looked exactly like WoW and it made me kind of worried about how much they were trying to appeal to the player base. Arkane has straightened me out and of course i'll be playing WAR. My issue still stands though for any game that if is dumbed down to the level of WoW I wouldn't play longer than a month.
Surely anyone who is good enough at PVP to help defeat the city they will also be good enough to join up with another 23 fellows and do the deed on the KIng ?
With PvE raiding it has never been a question of being "good enough". It's a question of whether or not a person is willing to be an ass-kissing flunky in a raiding guild; and whether or not they can play for 5-10 hours at a sitting; and whether or not they are willing to endure hours of mindless, simon-says, follow-the-leader boredom.
I hate that shit with an undying and truly passionate hatred. It's not a question of whether I could do it or if I'm good enough for it. What matters is that I refuse to do it because I can't stand it. I don't pay money so I can suffer through crap that I hate. And if PvE raids are the culmination of the PvP war, where the best rewards are, then as far as I'm concerned they can shove their game up their asses, twist it sideways, and die of cronic constipation.
I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fauning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them. And I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privelege of being an easy target for over-powered toadies.
Hmmm you seem to have had a unfortunate expirience or two with one or more of the so called hardcore raiding guilds. I believe even purist PVP players will be in a guild and I greatly suspect the same crew who go and do the PVP scene will ALSO be able to do the king fight. Infact from what I managed to gather from the videos someone fully decked out in the PVP finery will be better equiped for the envounter than someone fully decked out in only PVE equipment.
That said the person decked out in the best of both will probably have an advantage over both. I still fail to see why its such an issue if you don't want to be in a elitist ass kissing guild don't join one I certainly woudn't. However if what you prefer is solo play then I can see what your issue will be a pure solo player would have problems doing a King enounter and infact may have problems with certain aspects of a city siege (though they have stated that there will be some solo content even in the city sieges)
The following is a quote from the question and answer section of the official website :-
Q. Will solo players be able to contribute to a city siege? Or will they be directed more toward guilds and groups? Do soloers stand any chance of getting any loot in the battle?
A. Solo players will definitely have the opportunity to reap some rewards during a city siege; however, most encounters will require full groups to have any chance at victory.
They wanted to make the King special and they wanted to allow everyone a chance to kill him. Not just the few people who managed to be there at the end. Getting to the King fight is the result of a lot of work and not all the people who helped would necessarily have managed to be there for the final stages. To be honest at this time I cant see any better way for them to handle it. If they had only one King fight and that happened in the middle of the PVP battle how annoyed would you be if whilst one section of the PVP got the King whilst you were busy holding the line in a different area... and then there is the infamous zerg.... rather than 24 people everyone in the battle may turn on the King changing what would have been a epic battle into how many bodies do we throw till he falls down...
Just because someone despises PVE raiding guilds doesn't mean they are anti social nor a loner looking for solo content. Have you considered the possibility people may prefer to be in a PVP guild instead and would like to progress in the game with a PVP guild?
The fact you admit there will be difference in the gear will lead to friction between PVPers and PVErs.

Or that they would love to be in PvE grouping content, kinda as CoX is doing?
PvE groupers are the main playerbase IMO, and they are the most neglected players, always forced into either raiding, rvr, PvP, tradeskills...or then been in a totally lonesome solo game. Very few grouping options which are true to groupers out there.

So some will not play WAR because king encounter is instanced? Or because you gain access to PvE dungeons when king is defeated?
We have to be somewhat realistic, my guess is that cities will be captured maybe 3-4 times/month. Mostly during weekends when most people can find the time for it. Many want some awesome award by killing the King. How would it be distributed then? Will only the 24-ppl raid get rewarded or everybody which contributed to capturing the city etc.
Just capturing the city itself and being able to hold parts of it is actually an award. Although i hope that the side getting it's city captured would suffer from severe negative bonuses. That and all the renown points you gain during the battle would be enough for me, and ofc i'd like a renown bonus if goal is accomplished.
If the king was to be open RvR it would be extremely hard to balance to fight. If even possible. I bet that way would generate more whine than the instanced version. A nice random factor to the fight could be that the 6 people contributing most to defense could gain access to king's room and help defend him. Spawning as "Emperor's Guardian" or whatever.

And by "everyone" they mean---ONLY PvE RAIDERS, and screw the 90% of other people playing the game. Apparantly people who don't like PvE raiding don't even count as "someones" because they certainly are not included in that "everyone" catagory.
I think you still don't get where I'm coming from. As I said, it's not a question of whether I COULD do it. The thing is; I WON'T do PvE raids because I hate that. I absolutely will not pay money for something I hate.
Let me give you an analogy. It's not a perfect analogy but maybe it will help you to understand.
Ok, let's say that there is a local movie theatre I like going to. I go there to watch action movies, comedy movies, Sci/Fi movies, and maybe the occasional horror movie. I pay my money and watch the movies I like. Everything is fine, right? But then one day I go into the theatre to watch an action movie and the manager tells me I can't watch any more of the movies I like untill I sit through a five hour artsy-fartsy flik about a mans' love affair with his goat; which takes place entirely in one room and consists of five hours of the man talking about his feeling to a psychologist.
And furthermore, the manager tells me that I have to watch the same exact artsy-fartsy movie every month if I want to continue to use his theatre to watch the other types of movies I like. Am I going to pay money to watch that crap movie? Am I going to keep going to that theatre? Am I going to suffer through that stupid crap movie every month, and pay money to do it, just so I can keep watching the movies I like in that place?
NO, I am not.
And how does this relate to PvE raiding in War, you ask? Well it's pretty damn simple isn't it? If the highest gear progression is in PvE raids then if I don't sit through those miserable raids I won't be able to compete in PvP. Or, at best, I'll still be somewhat viable but permantally handicapped just because I refuse to sit through that crap, which is total bullshit. So in order to enjoy the parts of the game I like I will be required to sit through the crap that I absolutely hate, and pay money for it. Am I going to going to pay money to sit through miserable crap that I hate?
NO, I am not.
And no, I am not a pure solo player although soloing certainly needs to be a viable option. I will do solo PvE, small group PvE, PvP by myself or with a group or with a whole friggen army. The one thing I WILL NOT do is sit through PvE raids. And If I'm going to be penalized for that in even the slightest way, then as far as I'm concerned this game isn't worth even worth spitting on.
Wow it s not that big of a deal actually it s the best way to do it. It makes the best gear available the hardest way and i don t mean getting in a raid. It won t be that hard to get into one. Why the fuss they re trying to appeal to a wider base of people and thats just smart. I m a huge pvp er and soloer(duoer with the wife) but i like some things to come a little harder otherwise i ll play an offline game . It s not like it s EQ1

Ahhh then yes War isn't the game for you. But your analogy is flawed. You should have entered something like this. :-
Your local movie theatre offers a matinee for a special season ticket you get to go and watch a whole season of films. These show action, comedy, sci-fi and even the occasional horror movie. However Sunday to Friday they also show artsy-fartsy romance films as well at the same time. Now you dont like those but hey you can watch you other stuff so you let it slide. BUT Saturday is all day action, comdty, sci-fi, horror. Except for the prime time slot which is a special premium edition artsy fartsy film. Now the kicker is in order for this special film to be seen everyone in the cinema has to have seen all the other films. Then and only then will people be allowed to watch the special artsy fartsy film. You then decide because of the artsy film you wont watch ANY of the films.
Seriously upto tier 3 PVE and RVR players get equivalanet gear. Tier 4 is where a line is drawn at Tier 4 the RvR equipment is better. Except for the city suit. The suit from the capital city is the best in the game BUT it requires BOTH PvE AND RvR to get it. A pure nothing but PvE will have a harder time than a pure PVP wold BEcause upto that point your gear is better. Now choosing to NOT do the raid is your choice but it wont gimp you but it will mean your gear wont be top notch but only if compared to someone who has managed to do the king stuff. You wont be penalised for not doing the raid its just you wont be rewarded for it either. But the King event isn't the only reason to play the game its a feature but choosing not to do it wont gimp you nor will it really limit your options. Even not doing the King there are tons of reasons to plot the downfall of an enemies city. Including some specials which are only achievable by the people actually attacking the city (don't know full details and atm cant find my reference).
Just my 2 cents

Quick edit I found one of my referenes This is from War dev chat held at Stratics.
[02:53] <Brannoc> *Tapela* Previously I recalled developers mentioning that crafting and RVR loot (equipment specifically) would be the best items you can obtain and it would be through RVR mainly with pve availability optionally. But recently it has been revealed that you had to progress through PvE loot that was actually geared for pve encounters and being better at pve. Why was pve raider mindset "progression" chosen over the equality in gear
[02:53] <[WAR]Gersh> As I stated before, you can pick up gear in both RvR and PvE... That being said your never going to reach the highest teirs of gear without RvRing.. PvE gear definately ends earlier. The one kicker to the whole RvR only thing is the fact that the best gear comes from the city which means you'll have to participate in some PvE city events such as the king to unlock them.. Well at least if you want to get to them faster
[02:54] <[WAR]Gersh> Your not going to need PvE gear to progress in PvE
[02:54] <[WAR]Gersh> you just need BETTER gear
[02:54] <[WAR]Gersh> you can get that either way
I suspect the asker of this question had the same concerns you did but the interesting part of the answer is the "Well at least if you want them faster" perhaps there will be a alternative way for a pure RvRer to get the top end gear just a long a laborish one involving a lot of Reknown needed ?

Yeah, I think we can agree on that at least. Everything else in your post was just a 'round about way of saying, "Yes, if you don't pve raid you'll be gimped. Deal with it."
So at this point I think I'm just going to agree with you that this game is not for me. Honestly, I need to stop looking at this now because it makes me almost psychotic. I really don't like being pissed off about this stuff all the time, which is why I'll never again play a game that screws over people who won't raid.
And after the lessons of past games I won't believe any bullshit song-and-dance crap from the devs about how raiding won't have any impact on non-raiders. We've been down that road before and we all know that they wouldn't be putting it in if it was truly optional. Because otherwise nobody at all would sit through it.
Fortunately for me I hadn't been following this game with high hopes. It was just one I was keeping in mind as a possibility. So, I'll just scratch it off my list. Hooray for the brain-dead drones I guess, they're getting another one. As if they didn't have enough already.

Your concept of WAR being some kind of constant PVE raid fest, like certain other games is completely and utterly wrong.
If you say you wont play that's fine, won't effect me or anyone else in the world, but the fact that you are basing that decision on incorrect information and incorrect pre-conceptions without even making the effort to find out the facts, I find rather baffling.
A simple internet search would satisfy many of your concerns - but guess you've made your mind up for some other reason.
I will not be playing Warhammer because I'm not interested in another World of Warcraft. No, Warhammer wasn't first, only the IP was - I know, I played the table-top and RPG before MMORPGs existed. But Warhammer, the MMORPG, offers exactly the same things as WoW, levels, classes, zones, raiding, consensual PvP, turn-based combat, with just a bit more battlegrounds they call "RvR". I'd rather keep playing EVE Online till I get another good MMO that isn't a EQ/WoW clone.
Levels, classes, zones, raiding, consenual PvP, turned-based combat, battlegrounds. That's fine that you don't want to play WAR because of these, but Jesus fucking Christ people, WoW didn't invent any of it. So stop saying you don't want to play another WoW, those features don't make any game "just another WoW." They're MMO features which have been around for a bit and will continue to be around.

Aye but then I bet these people also refuse to play baseball because its just another football clone... After all they both have balls, teams, running, fans, scoring and winning. Means they gotta be the same right ?
As they say its a whole different ballgame. All ball games share in one way or another those factors its how they implement them the "rules" which makes all the difference.
It's tthe same with mmorpgs they all share common elements its how they implement those elements that makes them great or mediocre.
In my opinion War is coming out greatly the developers are actually trying to show us stuff. They are trying to make a mmorpg with their own twist and flavor and it seems to be working.
I am just posting this to see how many players "won't" be playing Warhammer? I want any reason. I can tell you one of the reasons I'm not playing Warhammer is it's just another class base pvp system. I love my PVP, but I hate rock paper scissors version of pvp. So this is my reason, but to anyone not going to play Warhammer online I want to know yours.
Its not free
Heh just joking, but i really dont like RvR concept pvp, even less combined with carebear style DP
I'm still looking at it, but there is only about a 25% chance I will play it. I imagine most of you in this thread are the same or you wouldn't even come to this board. Pretty much we are all just hoping for something revelutionary/evolutionary to come out of this title, instead of just bits and pieces of games repackaged.
Personally, I believe they are trying to make a good game. The problem is, I think they are just not quite in touch with what gamers want as they use to be. They are trying to build on the old formula they used, which is good; but just not good enough. They need to add more innovative type ideas to this game, instead of just building on the RvR that they were good at.
To me, I guess what new stuff they are bringing to the table is just not enough to overlook all the tired old stuff they are throwing in the game as well.
I'm still waiting on a miracle from Mythic, but I really think it is to late in the game to do anything really innovative.
Well.....at least the type of innovation I'm looking for.
If (giant 'IF') this game ends up being too much like DAoC, then I won't play it.
I've tried DAoC twice now and I just can't stand the game. So, hopefully, the only thing WAR is pulling form DAoC will be some aspects of RvR.
...
Again, I preOrdered WAR and I have very high hopes for the game. Its seems that the AoC PvP weekend just isn't going over that well or doing much for that game... WAR may be gaining some fans.
As much as I don't want to see a WoW clone (and I'm not saying WAR is), but I really don't wanna see a DAoC clone.
That would be my major reason for not playing or quitting, I would say. But, I will give the game an honest try for sure.
this is going to be another rat race game where kids are going to be whining all day about gear. This game will follow WoW's path because after all, this is a business, and if WoW could get many subs, why not WAR?
I played many MMORPGs before, but I am going to pass on this one. Actually they should remove the RPG part because it's pointless to RP with "IbeatyouN00b" players. But that's another subject. The state of MMOs doesn't look good. I am considering RTS games.
This looks like a cookie cutter, why play a new MMO with bugs and a community that isn't as well established when I could just go play WoW or DAoC? If it does nothing but perpetuate the now stereotypical MMO format, I will have no reason to play it. They could have chosen to do something great with the 20k/40k universes, but they didn't, so more lost potential there.
But i do understand why people are going to want to play it. All of the people sick of WoW, but who still like the basic game structure, will flock to this game.
And who knows, if AoC doesn't pan out to be as good as I am expecting i might even try it myself. ;-)
I'm almost positive I've seen this post before... I'm not sure if I've actually commented on it though but w/e, here's my opinion again if I did... I just like reading the posts made on this topic that have nothing to do with the OP's question:
The reason I will not be playing this are basically for two reasons:
1. After looking at the classes, finding tidbits from the site and other various resources here and there, and looking at the videos, it doesn't seem to provide anything innovative to the next-gen MMORPG. Typical PvP, extremely dull looking combat system, so-so graphics... and I honestly could never see myself actually enjoying the game's PvE (and something tells me even the PvP would get dull fast).
2. I'm sick of the genre. WAY too much of it lately. Just can't take any more midgets or pointy eared people to put it bluntly. Hell, I'm so sick of the genre that if I actually found a unicorn in real life I would rip it's freakin horn out.
That's basically it... I'm not sure if it's exactly a wise idea that I'm even commenting on this extremely long thread as it is, as I'm sure I will get bashed for having an opinion for not wanting to play the game simply because I find the game itself dull and the genre tiresome.
And as for the whole connection to WoW thing... people, do you honestly believe this looks in any way different than WoW...? I mean you can tell yourself whatever you wish but really, there is a reason why this game is getting compared to WoW more than any other MMORPG out there / coming out. I can see how people are absolutely sick of the constant connections of games to WoW, I am too to be honest. Maybe it's because at the moment WoW has absolutely nothing that can compete with it...? I would believe there is a reason for this but some would disagree. Maybe because it actually is doing something right, which is why I can see this game is trying to become such a mirror image, as for a lot of games coming out this year. Whether you like WoW or not (I myself do not like the game) you have to realize that they are obviously doing something intelligently compared to other MMORPG's to have such a vast grasp over the gaming community.

After watching the latest movies on 'seige' in this game... I'll be playing it.
It certainly seems that WAR is pulling on the successful features of DAoC, improving them, and then rolling them into WAR.
I'm pretty happy with the things I'm seeing so far about this game. Things seem to get better with each new bit of information that's released.

Just airwalking.

Mythic + that dev named Paul, none of that combo should be even close to a mmo, them together spells disaster all over.
I cant wait for WAR to come out and all of these posters come flocking to the ranks. WAR is DAoC2 and DAoC is .

I won´t be playing WAR because I won´t have the time for I will be playing WAR all the time.

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

They could have chosen to do something great with the 20k/40k universes, but they didn't, so more lost potential there.
good question, and I have to say I agree.
But i do understand why people are going to want to play it. All of the people sick of WoW, but who still like the basic game structure, will flock to this game.
And who knows, if AoC doesn't pan out to be as good as I am expecting i might even try it myself. ;-)
Q - Why you won't being playing Warhammer?
A - youtube.com/watch
If only SW:TOR could be this epic...
