The article said that beta sign up will start now :  /...right screw you fileplanet.

    Nice job Funcom

Is there a date on that?  It would be nice if they gave a date..

it was pretty obvious.. fileplanet subs  have preference. Its always like that.

  • AntariousAntarious Member UncommonPosts: 2,846

I just have to say that's pretty classic..

To be on the AoC site "registration is NOW OPEN"

    then go to fileplanet..

    regeistration starts... next week.

    Isn't that a violation of SOE's soon(tm) ?

    (that's supposed to be funny ^ )

Anyone know if you have to pay for a sub in order to apply?  Or is this just a joke?

  • darkgamerxdarkgamerx Member Posts: 311

Please tell me other sites will hold registration/download ...since i cant stand the downloader on file planet...

"You are required to be a FilePlanet member in order to sign up for the Open Beta. Preloading of the client will start prior to the launch of the Open Beta, and applicants will receive more information should they receive a beta key."

LOL. So first you have to pay to be able to sign up THEN you MIGHT get a key.

Nice one Funcom, just another way to pay for beta :)

But on the other hand,  i dont expect anything else from them because lots of the folks "inside" shurely know what FC rather hides before release.
What an embarrasing excuse for an "open beta" - fits very well to the overall image of FC and their super "next gen" title.

lol i find this post ironic, you people have been crying that since single player games have Demos ,MMO,s should have open beta's so you can "taste" the game...

Now please tell me where i can find a demo of a single player game that lets me play all the way through?.....waiting

this is Funcom saying "Hey we KNOW you arent testing anything in open beta, we can all agree open beta is a marketing tool...here is a taste of our game if you like it come back May 20th"

Ick, capping an open beta at level 13 really makes it look like the beta leakers and warnings were on to something...  I wonder if that's Funcom's way of hiding the fact that there's no content in the upper levels.

My definition of open beta is no NDA. I guess that is the best part of this deal

Or maybe the whole point of an open beta is to stress the servers, which they don't need testers to be high level to do. As such, it's of no benefit to them to give you the entire game for free.

And am I the only one who remembers that LOTRO (which everyone points to as one of the better launches) was limited to like level 12 in Open Beta? I me come on that was just last year.

Did they raise the cap as beta progressed?

Nice one Funcom, just another way to pay for beta :)

My guess is, they'll take 5,000 or 10,000 of the beta keys and guarantee those to their paying customers that want one and then let everyone else that signs up or has a free account battle it out for the rest.  The sad part is, I can almost guarantee you that if you get a key you will end up giving them $15 just so you can get to the no wait servers for downloading.  The last thing you want to be doing in open beta is waiting in line 10-20 hours to then download a 20-30g file/patch.  That is not fun at all.

I'll keep my thoughts to myself on how I feel about Funcom have Fileplanet hosting open beta because I really don't want to troll my own tread.  That is why I didn't provide the link directly in my opening post to Fileplanet.

Also, serveral people have said you have to pay file planet to be in the closed beta.  That is an outright lie.  Your chances are just MUCH better and you have no wait downloading if you are a member.  I've been invited to closed betas and open betas from Fileplanet as both a paying member and free member.  So please, don't troll the thread.  Again, you don't have to be a paid member over there on fileplanet, it just helps your chances.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

dude seriously at the end of the day you need to man up and either buy the game or dont....Funcom gave you 20 days to play the game and talk to other testers in game to make a choice...WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT!?

in single play games they show you the first level/best level...you have no idea how the whole game is going to be but you buy it anyway.

how much did you know about WoW's end game during open beta? LOTR?  ....funny thing is at lanch EQ2 had the best end game and it DIDNT  have a open beta lol....

all im saying you gotta make your own choice and live with it, quit expecting someone to hold your hand to tell you whats good and whats not

Well if you read the wording from the AoC announcement AND know the Fileplanet policy it LOOKs to me like you have to be paying Fileplanet member. You are free to read this otherwise, but calling me a liar because I read it this way is some you better apologize. I dont take insults just because you hide behind your friggin anonymity! I dont call people names and I dont want to be myself!

FilePlanet Subscriber / Founders' Club Member  are two different things

Sounds better now, but the downloader will be hell....the amount of people going to be downloading and all : /

Narp. But you did get to keep your toon after release, so that something.

The point I'm really trying to make here is that a level cap on a Beta actually makes a lot of sence. After all, where do MMOs lag? Capitals and Newb area. By setting a low cap, they effectively bottle everyone into those areas thus placing maximum stress on the areas that will be most problematic after launch. Without the level gap, there are going to be some wackos who make 80 in like 4 days, and the rest of the population will be spread out around the entire game, which is good for testing content, but that's what closed betas are for because you need the extra control. Open betas are for stress testing, and for stress testing you really want to see where the failure point is, and the best way to do that is to cram everyone into a limited area in attempt to maximise stress on the server.

Look at the right  that is red THAT is founders club. Now look at the left thats blue THAT is subscribers. The difference between them is founders you pay more and get access to other sites. File planet subscribers which is the left gets full access to only Fileplanet.com and you pay less and if you look at the benefits one of them is "Beta access"

Learn to read my friend.  It says you must be a file planet member.  Do you have an account with fileplanet?  When you sign up for the FREE account you are a fileplanet member.  That is all that is required to sign up for it.  Notice on fileplanet's announcement it says fileplanet subscriber / Founders Club Member.  Founder's Club member is the paid subscription.  Fileplanet subscriber is free.  Now, I'll accept your apology for trying to call me a lier and hiding behind anonymity.  Oh, please, learn to read.
