I am being insensitive...SWG or SOE or Lucasarts or an abusive Wookie apparently injured you deeply... I can't believe I didn't notice before...*sniff*..I am deeply sorry for your loss..and hope you can continue on with life and your insightful and life changing forum posts. There is hope...please..don't give up.......... in the meantime...I still recommend this game for brief or extended enjoyment.
side note: In your grief, Valeran, you stated I mentioned declining populations. I did not..and had not experienced any population problems when I played...granted..it was a year ago. Yes ..you were right ...i did leave after 52nd level due to content...thats true...but i left behind a huge friend list in the process. Pop and grouping was no issue.
But you still quit so I applaud you for that.

I come to this site to read about new and old games. After seeing lots of negative posts about SWG on the home page under the most recently added. I decided if all these people think it’s such a bad game I will try the trial and see for my self. I will mention I started playing SWG when it was release, but only for two months. I can't remember anything about the game besides I played it.
I must say the game was fun and the quests were fun too. No different from WoW go here and kill these guys or collect this item. When I left the trial area there was a lot of people running around when I was logged in. I only played a total of 10 hours though. In that time I got a speeder that I could drive around and get quests done a lot faster. This was great to have at a low level. Most games you don't get any speed enhancements till later levels. If I was not beta testing another game I would still be playing. If you are thinking of trying the trial go for it.
I did experience one problem it took me awhile to get the game working. I guess I started playing on a patch day and something went wrong. The information was on the forums just took me awhile to find it.

i left the game last year in september and if you didnt like PvP then dont play SWG and between levels 45-90 gl because mobs become a whole lot harder and there are no groups but im not going to tell you thats you shouldnt play in that just my time playing SWG (i wouldnt mind if they had a roll back server kind of like what EQ did only keep it at day one insted of being able to unlock the content

Well...thank you. And kudos to any and all who can try (for free) a game based on a simple recommendation...and make a self informed decision...not merely take " No..uber sux..soe bad...life as i know it no longers matters because nothing is written in stone and my existence flounders in ruins of betrayal and absolute skullduggery is my final answer Regis" as the only deal breaker.

err the "canned" new coke because it failed whereas they repaired the NGE and it hasn't failed. Not totally sure what else to say on something obvious. They still give out free coke though and they still make money and well .. runs out of stuff to say on the subject of what viral marketing is ...

However, unlike the example set by Coca-Cola to bring back Classic Coke...there will be no such effort (imo) to re-introduce a Classic Pre-NGE Server in SWG.

Actualy i'm a woman and typically women aren't very pwnable but what part of giving away free stuff wont creat or doesn't have the potential to create exponential growth and is NOT viral?

so basically your asking people to not viral marketing and then saying (see half your posts are illogical) that they should try the free sample which IS viral marketing just like giving away free coke is and whatever else you get (I even get free lightbulbs sometimes). So I dont understand half of what you say

you tell people to ignore the virall marketers and to listen to your viral marketing basically. Which makes no sense. Are you trying to sell them swg ? looks to me like you are in a half "arsed" way . Now most people going to the website of these here "viral marketers" who they should ignore are going to hit free trial first that's just what happens. So your message is

The two examples are rather different and here is howA) one is a brick and morar business and the other is not
b) one is being contiually developed and is digital which sells much differently then a tangible product (no warehouse space etc .. lots of different things apply here)
the coke new version or whatever they called it was made and packaged and a done deal. The other is a digital product which is for the moment showing signs of improvement and expansion (the chapters and such) which usually implies there is a profit being made in as much as they can afford to pay developers to work on it..
I also think they sold both cokes side by side for a very long time because they were unsure of keeping their old coke base and just wanted the pepsi base or something. In thise case what happened was the new version didn't cause people to buy it but nothing much changed. They obviously were not making a profit so they canned the product.
AT this point until such a time as they can SWG you can't say for sure as to wether they are making money. When you look at it they are constantly developing it. Okay YOU HATE IT I get that message loud and clear but others do not. So go drink pepsi instead .. (or something like that..)

Since it appears English is not your first language, I will try to sum it up for you Ummax.
We vets are saying 'don't listen to the lies the viral marketers are saying about how good the game is. Try it for yourself (for free) and see that we are correct, and the game is in truth, a disaster'.
We are not afraid of people trying the game. In fact, the game itself is our strongest proponent of truth in what we are saying. We are quite confident that if anyone who is actually seriously looking into SWG can actually play (especially if they can get Launcher to work), that they will see our point of view.
I suppose what we are doing can be construed as viral marketing, or more appropriately 'anti-marketing', but at least we are truthful about it, otherwise we would not encourage people to endure SWG for themselves.

I suppose they could , but from what i see most peole would not return to it because they are playing other games PLUS they would have to develop the two things side by side because unlike coke this product isn't static and unchanging. I would say that if they aren't introducing a roll back server there are two reasons that I can think of
a) they dont think they would find people enough to populate it as in they would not swtich (i certainly would not switch and i'm a vet.. )
b) they can't afford or dont think they would make enough money off of the added revenue to develop the content additions to BOTH versions side by side.
You have to remember that many vets are playing the current version and likely to entice them to that server they would have to transfer them over there and their guilds and their cities.. that would leave the other population with less players. I personallly would not move to a rollback style combat system etc unless they moved me and unless all my friends came with me..

I ignore the viral marketers as well i just find some of the stuff that SOME vets say totally illogical

These threads are so much fun. People telling other people what's fun and what's not. At one time i was a bitter vet, now i just moved on and SWG is a distant memory.
Let's all remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Personally, the game is a broken pile of crap. I can say this because i know the game was much better pre-cu than now.
To people that never played, the game is no better or no worse than any other MMO's on the market. If you come from a lvl based kill,loot,kill type of game SWG is right up your alley. Crafting and loots are on par with other MMO's and the only thing that stands out is player housing.
Doing heroics for that shiney new item is all the rave now and there are endless hrs. of collecting odd pieces to make a set of whatever.
For the peopele that are just getting into MMO's and are a huge SW fan. I would like to tell you what SWG was. It was huge game with endless possibilities. 32 proffessions that could be mixed to create a hybrid character.
There were no lvl's just skills to grind and get taught by a trainer of that said proffession. Crafting in SWG was better than any other MMO hands down and jedi was an unlockable proffession that took time with the feeling of true accomplishment.
On a whole, with doctors and entertainers doing their thing the game was much more sociable and alive. Pvp was everywhere not just in some designated zone, and the most important thing of all was the community. They actually had one that was thriving and populated.
The game was what you put into it. It was your very own Star Wars Galaxy. It was the greastest story ever told, YOURS!
I disagree 100%. SWG isn't as good as WoW, LOTRO, CoH/CoV, and the numbers prove it. SWG has no playerbase, those games all have quite a larger playerbase, especially WoW.
SWG:NGE is FAR FAR inferior to SWG:Pre-CU.
SWG:NGE is FAR inferior to WoW.
It isn't even a good version of what it tries to be, and that is truly where it fails.
To current players, inferior = not as good as

Please point out to me where the NGE has not failed in regards to retaining subscriptions and bringing in new customers? NGE = New Coke...atleast Coke had the business sense to bring back a product that would sell.
I guess they have $50 toon transfers as a windfall so it is not a total loss.

I agree ummax.. its funny how someone posts a topic...merely to state they like the game and likely to drum up some new players for the server and guild..just to change it up a bit ...others concur that they like the game...others politely disagree. Then..those that can honestly recommend and support a free trial run...become shills for SOE...who..through this forum..can miraculously save a now less than spectacular subscription base...at least this is the conspiracy through the eyes of a few embittered opinionated hangers-on.

Yeah I think only a new MMO player could like the game. Us vets have been long forgotten. It's new game for a new generation of players.
I actually believe he was correcting your slant you gave on a previous post of his with regards to the Coke analogy that you gave and how he had misinterpereted the Viral marketing definition (or at least that is how it came across from your post) whereas, as he rightly pointed out back to yourself that you were wrong to say so and that his reference was more accurate as to what viral marketing really is and that you really should check the definition first before asking him to do so... which he did. Just ask wiki for a rundown on the definition.
Also, I dont think that he was refering in any way as to what gender you are as "guy" can be used to describe a person of both sexes in modern day terms (please also see Guy in wiki too) and his response was sarcastic in tone as you really did set yourself up for a fall with respect to the tone of your post. Remember if in doubt.. wiki it!
Anyways, just my two pence as the topic was being skewed in my eyes.
On a real note, I have no idea why SWG is in its current form. One of the biggest IP in the world and they cant make a game which sells itself on merit all I can say is - If i was to set up a hamburger stall and open up shop and 9/10 people who came by and asked for a hotdog.... what would I sell?"

If we are using the analogy that the NGE = New Coke, then I would have to say that the "brown" coloring they are using as part of NGECoke must be made from dirt, cow shiz, and roofing tar, because the NGECoke management couldn't figure out how to make carmel color. But the "brown" recipe they are using costs a lot less, and according to NGECoke management, that is what the focus group wanted, and they think so little of their customers, that their customers will keep drinking new NGEShizCoke and like it.
If SWG was a hamburger stand, they would have first removed the meat (CU), then decided to just sell wilted lettuce (NGE). The baffling part is they had around ten times the number of customers when they sold hamburgers, but decided to stick with lettuce because it was easier to prepare. To make up for the lost revenue, they got rid of the cooks and put the janitor in charge of the place. Behind all the changes was the fact that the folks in charge were all vegitarians and didn't like the idea of selling meat.

see this is the thing opinions DONT count. Thats the thing if it was a failure the game would NOT exist and the servers would have been shut down. It doesn't matter what you feel yourself as an opinion or what I feel myself as an opinion so there is not much argument over what is and what you think. Plain cold fact is what matters.

Those are the ones that I know failed because they are dead and gone. It lives and they pour money into it therefore at this point in time until otherwise proven the game is indeed succeeding despite laments of people who would desperatly love to see if fail cause they are so angry etc at sony and hate its guts. I think it also bothering you that the game still exists despite your wishes that it didn't. As they put it "it aint over til the fat lady sings" . I can't even deem other games with servers that are running to be failures other then I dislike them because they do exist and pull in revenue
So here is the thing IT DOESN'T matter if i love the game. It also DOESN'T matter if you hate the game.

If you want to say YOU *think* the game has failed that's fine but that doesnt make it any more true then someone saying its an epic blockbuster hit bigger then wow and all those other games put together. I however dont hate sony I"m pretty objective. When they broke my game I left and closed the door behind me. Then one day i just happened to login and found the game was fixed. I reactivated my account and played it. That was about 2 months ago .

reality is the opposite of what you say.. The fact is the game does exists, people play it despite your repeated efforst to make it look like no one does and there are playes where there are crowds in the present day.
The "dont flame me" defense aint gonna cut it with me . So far I dont know how to speak english, YOu have called me a liar and apparently i'm a fanboi or something (not a real word but anyhow..) . Anyone who plays this game is an idiot and basically your opinion is right even if its just an opinion and everyone elses is wrong even if theirs is just an opinion.
Reality says differently people still play the game and enjoy it and there is still a population on the servers and no one knows what that population is and the fact the game is stil running means it has not failed.
