No ofcourse I wont cancel my preorder for a BETA that got some bugs..

The game is running great on my rig, got nothing to complain about, except the zoning and pvp minigames. Zoning just takes a few secs but it's zones :(, and I'm for open world pvp, not fpslike battlegrounds.

Hell NO!. No way I am cancelling, I found it quite enjoyable, great graphics, good gameplay, Kewl moves, questing, content. Why would I cancel?

I have been reading about a lot of "players" saying it crashes or whatever, the thing I know to be TRUE is that this is a BETA. Guess it takes a special kind of player to help fix the problems in a game they really want  to play and then another "type" to constantly bash an Unfinished product.

I am not going to argue, It runs fine on my box that I just built in Dec 07, not on highest, but Medium tweaked. I came from SWG Pre-CU/NGE and i also tested Vanguard and WOW and a lot of others. Yes there are tweaks needed, Yes there are Bugs "BETA" and yes there are a lot of players who are mad their machines cannot run it, But overall I have no problems with this BETA and will not be cancelling my pre-order.

Pre-order? Are you people really serious? Are you that new to MMO's or do you have that short a memory? This is the company that singlehandedly saved SWG from being the worst, most incompetent launch in MMO history. And it only took them a year after that to get AO into a playable state. While you are throwing your money away, can you throw some my way?

way to troll....Funcom had 0, nadda, zilch, nothing, zero, void, empty (i know..ran out of analogies) to do with SWG, past, present or future. Ever, developemental, production, nothing. Funcom wasn't even on the same planet with SWG.

Miagisan.... He wasn't saying it had anything to do with SWG.

He is saying that SWG would have been the worst launch in history, had it not been for Funcom and it's Anarchy Online launch.

From what I can tell he thinks that AoC is going to suffer the same fate as Anarchy Online....

    He is probably right.

Let me try to make it clearer for you. SWG would have stood alone as the worst launch in history if Funcom had not robbed them of that honor with the incredible depths to which AO sank. There are many gamers who still laugh, groan, gnash their teeth remembering those early days (no not days, months) of AO.

But it just reemphasizes the sad point about MMO gamers...reputation doesnt mean a thing... grease the wheels with enough hype and the lemmings will trample one another to be the first over the cliff.

    QFT.

So far all I have seen post in the favor of AoC so far in this poll are these "Lemming" creatures you speak of.

That's why I always liked you Miagisan, because you state your mind, apologize if wrong, and generally speak with good sense.

Now toss me a beer, so we can watch the game and the debate burn up like a meteorite on a summer night.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

I can't vote in the poll.  I am in the closed beta.  I have pre-ordered the game and do not plan on canceling my pre-order BUT I do not love the game.  It is all right and I will keep it around for a change of pace from the games I DO love but it will be just a casual game for me.

    1) This is a STRESS TEST. I repeat, STRESS TEST. It WILL run like crap and it WILL be buggy.
    2) It is a BETA. Not a TRIAL or DEMO
    3) It only levels you to 13. That to me is more of a extremely small preview. Anyone who thinks this beta is meant to sell copies obviously doesn't know or has played a lot of MMOs through their testing stages.
Anyone who calls others retards because you do not agree with their reasoning is a retard.

    1) Stress test means they stress the servers. It doesn't mean your game will crash with BSOD everytime you run it (before even getting to login screen). And im not talking about constant hickup lag.

    2) Yes, its a beta. But the release date is what, may 20? The last month before the release should be about small stuff: networking issues, small bugs, class balancing, etc etc. This game is not ready for release. Id give it another 3-4 months of testing and fixing major bugs.

    3) I played till level 9ish... i dunno, I dont find AOC combat very much entertaining. Its OK, not great. In your opinion, how long do you have to play before you start enjoying it?

All in all, AOC would of been a good game, if not all the major buggs. If they pull out a miracle out of their hat and fix it by May 20, then great for them, they might get a fairly good release. But if not, its gonna be another Vanguard.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I'm very much enjoying the beta so far even with just a little bite-sized piece of the whole game world.  I'm glad I pre-ordered because I'll get the extra days in game before launch.

  • simchasimcha Member Posts: 21

It's amazing. Every beta that comes out, it's the same complaints. The game is buggy, the servers aren't performing at optimum rates, i this doesn't get fixed then the game will bomb. Every beta has gone through that.

AO, E&B, WoW, AC, AC2, FFXI, EQ2, EVE, AA, GW, and those are only to name a few. Now sure some of those are no longer around and others like Tabula Rasa are still trying to get their momentum. It dosen't however mean that the game is going to fail and that the sky is falling. I remember SWG having a HORRIBLE beta test and if I recall, the Devs ignored the community and did their own thing after telling the players "Too Bad". That game still hangs around.

Also, people mention Anarchy Online being the butt end of the MMO stick, but has anyone played the game? It has a VERY nice atmosphere and the hardcore vets love it. Why? Because there is content to the game. Something that Warcraft Online LACKS. Instanced dungeons, optional clothing (Not armor, clothing), bars that are fully functional, player housing, need I say any more? AO had it all. It's just dated now.

If you guys really think that Funcom is going to drop the ball on AoC I think your sorely mistaken. The game if anything will be better than most of what's out there already. Funcom has already implimented these ideas into a successful MMO before, and now they know how to make sure that the game will remain smooth in the long run. As for the launch itself? Even if it crash and burns like AO did, rest assured that it can and will rebound, Just like AO did. After all, AO does have about 4 expansion packs out for it now.

regardless of what the harpies say for or against, i will wait my 6 months. though the beta is running very smoothly for me, there is just nothing new in this mmo to garner my money. so for now the beta will be fine until it ends, after that back to boat racing and restoring cars. it's all in the entertainment.

can you smell that?!!...............there is nothing quite like it.....................the smell of troll in the morning............i love that smell.
