A Question to those who played Wow beta and AOC Beta.  If AOC had been out for ~4 years ago, at the precise same time as WOW, and you where playing Beta versions of both game right now:  which game would you preorder?

even though the game is not for me, world of warcraft had a good beta, and a good launch, the only problem with the launch was that it was SO popular, they didn't have enough servers to hold everyone, and that has nothing to do with the state of the game.

lord of the rings online also had a great beta, and a great launch.

LOL World of Warcraft launch was awful. If you think just server capacity was the only problem then you must have been in queue the entire time you played.

You really didn't play it if this is your opinion. I played beta, release, and after release.. I know EXACTLY how it happened and it wasn't pretty.

maybe you had some bad luck, but I and NO ONE I knew had any problems with the game except for server load.  I played wow up until right before the burning crusade came out and had not experienced ANYTHING other than server lag... you know with 8 million people trying to log in and all.

I am sure somewhere in the game there were a few glitches, no game will EVER be *FLAWLESS* until we have robots writing code, cause humans are flawed.  HOWEVER, we can have smooth gameplay with little glitches here and there, and if you can name me 1 horrible glitch from either wow or lotro i'll say I'm sorry, but the fact is they had no game breaking bugs, and they had no performance issues.

Funny I had the opposite experience.

Me, my brother, and several of our guildies had a FP account and through we try it out.

We all loved it and put in our pre-oreders this morning.

I had a really rocky start with no spell effects, black screen and stuttering. Turned out it was all on my end. I simply wiped all my drivers, reinstalled all of them and I got amazing results. The game plays very fresh and is a nice change of pace from LOTRO and WOW.

Im looking forward to playing this game in live. I realize this is an old build with a debugger in the background (press ctrl-) and its the tutorial island. I dont think Ill quit WoW at this point, but Im going to buy this and give it a try. Ill give a few month spin then see where I stand then, weather im just gona stick with WoW, or move over to AoC.

Careful, enthusiam for the game is not allowed on the boards here. Slightest sign of something good is often frowned upon. But your wise to give it a little time if your unsure.

Seriously though, if you didn't like the game then your in the Minority.

2>1 should be getting easier for people on the fence to make their mind up, if they still can't then just wait it out, no harm done.

I'll be there at launch enjoying it for what it is. Different, new, refreshing. My wifes whole kindship from LotrO will be there too, they are about ready to leave that game after book 13 dissapointments.

or if your on the fence with any sort of criticism watch out for the rabid fanbois....they will chew your head off. Your no different than the haters, just the polar opposite. And my whole kinship is currently LAUGHING at AOC...every keeps telling me "I told ya so...funcom hasn't learned their lesson"

Well its different for everyone right, we are all individual.  There are twice as many testers in CB than the are in OB. As every tech tester just got put into CB. Nevertheless time will tell.

Rabid, Chew, where? If you notice its true, the haters threads just keep disappearing because they can't be constructive, the poll here suggests just based on OB experience twice as many people enjoyed it than hated it.

You can be on the fence and have crititism, just present it with respect.

show me one post where i didn't give the game respect.

I have stated and continue to state:

    1) the graphics and sounds are awesome

    2) story line is really good

    3) immersiveness is lost on me....alot of instances in the 1-13 levels

    4) gameplay didnt hook me, felt too confining based on my gameplay styles

No where did i bash, belittle, or mock the game itself. Granted yes i am having alot of chunking lag and micro freezeups which is the technical side of things...but the game itself i would rate a solid 7.

Sorry the respect comment was not directed at you personally, sorry if you took it that way, I should of been a little bit more clear.

What I meant was presenting opinion's in a respectfull manner, thats something that you do, do, but many don't.

    May I make a suggestion?

After release, get a buddy key off someone, and play past Tortage.

The "training" aspect of the starter city could be percieved as limiting, from certain points of view I admit.

Sure its useful, after 1000+ posts, there's a couple of interesting trends.   First, of those who've actually tried the beta, more than twice as many are pleased with it and plan to play it live, as dislike it.  Never the less, the 1% translates to 160 people who aren't going to go forward.

More interesting is the number of folks sitting on the fence (including me).  At 44% thats the group funcom has to somehow oonvince to make the game a big hit.  Not sure what it will take though.  Lifting of the NDA from the Closed Beta testers would help, but within a few weeks that will be a moot point.

In my own case, I'll probably play it for a bit, but in the long run I don't think its really the game for me with its strong PVE end game component unless the PVP sieges and stuff turn out to be entertaining.

But then again, I really like playing EVE, so perhaps my tastes just aren't aligned towards this sort of game anymore.

Should have had an option in the poll for "I havent played the beta but would like to see the vote result's"

I am sure quite a few have voted and not played but did indeed want to see the poll result's.

i keep comparing how conan runs to other open betas i ve been in and i cant say its running anywhere nearly as smoothly . i also here that the actual release will require less specs than the beta so to be honest i m really still not convinced enough to buy . after vanguard i wont buy any mmo without a free trial and the beta really has nt answer my question as to how well it will play on my pc upon release . i ll stay in lord of the rings this summer and see what transpires . proberbly will end up playing warhammer at the end of the day .

I preordered a while ago, it's just 50moneys so who cares, if it's shit come release I simply won't resub, but I have the gut feeling this game will be full of epic win, from my short time in pvp beta.

This. I preordered last year and have yet to actually be able to play the game. But by wading through the stupid forum posts and getting to actual reviews of what the game is and what it will be, I'm confident I've made the right choice. This game, as you say, will be full of epic win. :)

Aside for the normal beta bugs and such I think people who have anything less than a Nvidia 8800GT and 4 GB of RAM will be sadly disappointed with the performance of this game.  I am not saying this is Vanguard 2.0 but it is close.

LoTRO was the best beta I have been in.  I did not order it and play it because of other reasons but I think that is the standard barer.  Using that as a guide I would say AoC needs another year of development.  I probably will still buy it because my rig is nice but this game is not going to get a lot of subs due to system requirements.

Wont see if the game is going to do well until release and a few months after that.

I am humbled.  We are over 1,000 votes now folks.  Keep them coming.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

You should specify between open and closed beta since for somereason Funcom is using different clients.

You really need to get out more often. There are a ton of MMO's that have had fairly successful launches recently. Just to name a few: City of Heroes, City of Villains, Lineage 2, Lord of the Rings Online and of course, World of Warcraft. I've been a beta tester in each of these games and I can guarantee you that none of them experienced this amount of severe showstopping bugs and crashes just 20 days prior to launch.
