People freaking the fuck out over a videogame is rediculous. That's exactly what people are doing over AoC, they're freaking out.
I've worked in the MMO industry(development), I've worked in the automotive industry, I've worked stocking groceries, tech support for MMOs, cell phones, and satellite services, and I can honestly say in all that time I've NEVER seen people lose cohesion on something quite the way people have been going off on AoC. (I get bored easily, I'm working as a baker right now. Letting my programming degree go to waste)
Now that's not to say people don't get upset and irritated when I delivered a dented car, or told them I need to roll a truck for their satellite, or had to tell them their comp was a pos and couldn't run a certain game or that the engine was limiting development options in the game we were making. BUT NEVER did people freak out.
I'll say it again, GET A GRIP, GET A CLUE, AND STF UP. Grow up, seriously there are more important things to be worrying about than a freaking video game. If you doomsayers were half as smart as you'd like to think you are, wait till a few months after release then try the game. Bitching and crying about it now isn't going to do a damn thing for you. You'll accomplish absolutely nothing. If you want to accomplish something send in bug reports, cause crying about it here accomplishes nothing.
Now this is the point. If PPL are half as smart as we like to think (considering what the MMORPG industry has been throwing out in the past) then we all should wait few months after release and then try the game. Bitching and crying about things after you buy it will not do dam thing for custimors. Its just another game that manage to get your money without you actually knowing what you were bying. And yes. Then it accomplishes nothing - for the custimors. But it shows the devs yet again that they can sell alot of games without bringing out the finished product.
MMORPG games are now fighting their own history of bad and unfinished releases. If the same would happen in the car industry or even in bakery then custimors would be freaking out. But there are certain standards needed reguarding those products. Currently there is no standard on what is acceptable in the game industry. But what we know is that there have been huge numbers of terrible things beeing thrown out in the past and thats what the indursty has to live with. And no genre has been worse than the MMORPG cause you have to play online anyway - so why not just let ppl buy a game - then give them something that works 50% and then you fix it in the next year with patching ? This is the reality. Its not pretty but thats just how it is.
Name me one game in the history of gaming that has been 100% flawless
There is a huge diffrence between a game that has gamebreaking issues and flawless. Name me 10 games that have been launched that had so big issues that it wasn't playable.
Now - is the goal to do better than the games that were unplayable or to set the standard abit higher ?
In the pc market you are always going to have a game be unplayable to some people no matter how well the game was programmed as the developers have to take into account of thousands of different possible computer configurations and there are bound to be problems with some of them. It's not always the devs fault either, sometimes it is the users faults with configurations on the computer such as bad drivers, not uninstalling your video drivers and running driver cleaner before installing new one, fragmented hard drive, registry errors. There are reasons that software like drivercleaner.net, perfectdisk, perfecdiskRXsuite exist.

changing your arguement now?
Wasn't it just "What Im asking ppl to do is not spend even 2 cents on product that is not ready or in any way broken- then it doesn't matter if its AOC - WAR - WOW - AC or Super mario."
And not playable by who? Minus the crash here and there which seemed to disapear with that last patch, i had no true issues at all, nor did most of the guys i game with, tho we also run 3-6 gigs of ram, and would never be dumb enough to try to run vista on anything under 4 gigs
i'll do a fast edit as to not pad my post count, Vist takes up 800mb to 1.2 gigs of ram by itself, AoC takes up 1gb to 1.5 gb itself, run those two togather on 2 gigs of ram, yes, you will be unable to play it. Get more ram
Where did I mention flawless game ? You brought out that question. I was talking about certain standards. That might well include the minimum and recommended spec that I will mention l8ter.
secondly - its not playable for me. After last pach - your miracle patch. I have posted proofs but they got deleted cause it was breaking NDA. But look around.
Third. Again - go to the pre-order website and take a look at the minimum and recommended spec. Then send a post to Funcom and ask them to add that their game is not running under Vista unless you have 3 gbs of Ram. Why are you mad at me for using 2 gbs when the minimum for the game is 1 gb ? Im not gonna try to run AOC with 1 gb of RAM. But thats what the makers are saying will work. Now... if they are talking about minimum as a game that will launch at all or can be played for 1 min without crashing. I dont know.
Standards - not flawless. There is a huge diffrence. You can always claim that any product isn't flawless. But they all have to meet certain standards. Those standards are not withheld in the Gaming indursty. But maybe we should start thinking about it for abit. Before we start buying a box and wait 5 years for the game to be developed. But hey.. maybe you would be happy about it. Thats why its usually the industry that agrees on the standards. But the gaming industry hasn't got any.

minimum is 1gig ram but that is with xp not vista, gotta remember vista itself almost uses 1 gigs itself, and the OB client used 1.4 gigs according to my system, 1.4 gig plus 1 gigs from vista resources = 2.4gigs when using vista, that is why they are saying 2 gigs using vista is not enough. Gaming in vista requires atleast 3 gigs or more ram because vista is a resource hog. Either that or disable all the uneeded services and processes that you don't need running in the background, Plus change vista to use Aero basic instead of full.

Again - I have no problems with running any other game -exept Hellgate London that has same memory issues. That is known fact now in retail. That game has suffered big time cause of it. And belive me - its not just happening to me.
The purpose of Beta is to test all possible hardware and software issues. I dont think I would be breaking any NDA by saying that Funcom is aware that there are memory leaks in the game. What is happening is that its affecting the computers diffrently. Thats not my job to fix. Thats the developers job. And that should be fixed before release. Just like it should have been with Hellgate London but wasn't.
You are the one who said don't buy a game that is broken in any way... that means no bugs, no crashes, aka flawless..........
As for min system specs, come on, who the hell actually goes by those? i assume you are using a 300mb paging file also so our system can't even use the paging file as a buffer when the ram starts to fill up and thus lessening the blow on your ram.
You are wasting soo much energy on here bitching your head off about what should or shouldn't be,when really all you need to do is go buy 1 more gig of ram and you will be able to run it just fine

See...I kept screaming that LOTRO was the end...it was a bad game..it just was not ready
They still have not shut that one down, and ready for this?
PEOPLE STILL BUY it...
Isnt that insane?
But, I digress...your arguments are still over a product that has NOT been released. Now, if I buy the box, and the 30 days suck...then guess what..I will speak with my wallet, and never have to pay another dime...but, the only way I will know if the game is any good...is to buy it.
I bought Bioshock...and guess what...I hated it...yet, everyone kept screaming about Crackdown being a crappy game...yet I pick it up on a regular basis and play it..
It will form a more objective opinion if I play it...I have learned this now...and I would prefer to wait and scream doom when I SEE doom...not when some guy who has computer issues screams it.....

A memory leak implies that the application continues to grow in size and no matter how much ram you have it will eventually eat through all of it... I have seen NO report or SS that says the game has ever gone past 1.6 gb of ram used.
Thus it not a memory leak, it just uses a crap ton of ram, those are 2 different things.

1 gigs is pretty cheap now too, depending on the brand you can find a gig of ram for 40 dollars plus now.

Glad we can agree that 1 gb wont run on Vista. Now... are ppl gonna be refunded if they pre-order the game with just one gb ram under vista ? Cause I can't find any official info about that on the pre-order site.
So.. suggestion might be - Wait and see. Don't by pre-order until you have enough info? Cause lets just face it. Even official funcom Pre-order site isn't giving enough info about the Minimum spec for the game. So what about rest of their info ?
We should trust the gaming developers 100% on everything they say ?

Actually - buying just random 1 gb to add to your existing Ram could lead to dissaster. Its highly recomended you buy 2x2gbs syncronised cards if you want to guaranty performance. Even the virtual memory works alot better than using just some random RAM chips.
This game is far from ready. And thats how it will be launching. 2 months minimum is needed to sort out gamebreaking issues.
Bah! I played the last month or so and have yet to find these 'gamebreaking issues' ...
Yes, many people are having problems with the BETA client, I've experienced some lag and some hitching, the crazy zone times, BUT those issues have all been addressed by the devs.
Can you not just wait for release and a fully patched client before you start going off on one?

Not allowed to talk about what is official and whats not. Lets just see how honest Funcom is. But saying there is no memory leak is wrong. I could post numerous Patch infos about memory leaks. But again NDA.

Id prefer that FUncom would answer one of many posts sent to their Tech support before that
They havn't. They have all the details. They have stated they know about memory leaks issues. Rest is just waiting.
Again - Point that out to Funcom cause there is not one word about that in their minimum or recommended spec on their Pre-Order.

If people were smart enough they would realize vista needs more than 1 gigs.
All the minimum specs really mean is that the game will start up, but does not guarantee you will run the game without issues, most of the time if you meet minimum specs you are going to barely be able to play it all. This is why they put out the recommended spec, recommended basicly means if you meet this you shouldn't have any performance issue, and should have a good gaming experience. thats it.

Gonna throw out few facts about few things. AOC will be launching with problems for alot of players performance wise. I find it quite ironic that after a post from me got deleted cause it showed the game crashing I got a following msg from Mod on this website
You prolly didnt get to read my post but you have WAY to many programs running in your background. I saw in your SS that you have 50 Active Processes running. OUCH! Not sure about Vista but XP only needs 14 to run. Turn off all the useless stuff you have running and it will make a BIG difference. You can always turn them back on after you finish playing AoC. Hope that helps. 1. Im running windows vista installed 2 days ago when the screenshot was taken. There is only one none orginal Windows vista program not running. That is my anti-virus that I have turned of and it doesn't matter at all. 2. I have turned of every single windows Vista coponent that can without the system crashing. 3. Windows VIsta works diffrently than XP in the sence that the task manager shows all running tasks while XP does only show the users runnig tasks. So if a person is having 14 tasks shown in their taskbar in XP doesn't mean there arnt more running. I have 12 processes running as user. 4. My pc spec. Some are claiming my PC is crap and thats why its not working. I have already posted my spec few times including few days ago - I do so here again. http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/1874/runitbf7.jpg 5. It doesn't matter if I run the game in highest quality or the lowest. I have the same problems. OFC the FPS is higher but the stuttering and crashes are exactly the same. 6. My PC can run every single game other than AOC exept one - Hellgate London. Its kinda strange Im not crashing for the other games since my PC is to blame ? Isn't it ? Now Hellgate London ... do I need to talk about that sad story of a game ? Maybe I need to remind you what memory leak did to that game ? Yes lets do that and maybe someone will see some simularities ?
ever thought in the right mind that the real problem is windows vista...?
most of u ppl dont seem to remember that microcrap even confirmed that vista actuly works crap doesnt support a lot and has more bug and flaws than win 95 had..
so stop blaming the damn game for ur own stupidity

Vista is part of the problem. Thats for sure. But there are some players that are running XP and still have these memory crashes. Part of the problem is that Vista is using up RAM for the video card and when it comes to high memory demanding games like AOC it will clash. Now that doesn't mean its just Vista to blame. No game to this date has been released with more than 2 gb of RAM as requered to play. Or using windows VIsta 64 bit version.
But... if Vista is the problem and considering microsoft gaming is behind AOC then why not fix it ? Thing is - it wont get solved while noone confirms there is an issue. At this point in time Funcom talk about minority of ppl having problems. Minority could still be 49%.
Vista + 512mb on Video card + (2gig system memory, making windows vista only show 1.5 SUBTRACT .5 for vista on a good day leaving 1g for other programs) 1 gig memory + Trying to run a DX9/10 game with shader 3.0/2.0 = FAIL.

The truth will be out in few days and we will exactly see what ppl like you are all about.
Exactly. The truth will be out in a few days, so why waste time arguing about whether or not a game is good on forums? Let's all just put our crystal balls down and wait and see.
NO! Don't stop. This is funny as hell. I've probably seen troll and fanboi thrown around in the first 3 pages of this thread than in half the other threads combined, lol. Just because it's Alan0n, eh? And before you go saying he's a WAR fan, he was bashing that game earlier this year. So either he doesn't like either game, he's an equal troll, or he just wants to have fun. And all you fanbois are doing is helping him.

OP, plz dont ignore the proofpost of that AoC blog and post your response to it. id love to hear your comments on it. i wont believe u till u post something that confirms your "facts"
Im not allowed to post any proofs cause that would be breaking NDA. All I can ask ppl to do is to not jump of on the Pre-Order wagon until you are 110% sure the game is running for you. The rest will come out as soon as game launches in Pre-order wich is just few days away. You wont miss alot not pre-ordering. What I, you and we all should do is to wait until the game is ready - then we pay for it and enjoy it. Its not part of the job subscription as a custimor to sit and hope a company comes up with a fix - weeks or months after you have bought it. We get one free month playing when buying the game. That game should offer trouble free gameplay. Im just pointing out at this point there is a chance custimors wont. And there is nothing wrong with that.
If the game is gonna run great and will be a hit - then the custimors or Funcom havn't lost anything if ppl do the vize thing and wait. What is worrying is that Funcom is putting more and more extra features to the game for those that pre-order. Why? Its just a fair question to ask.
Al you are so full of it it's not even funny.
First you "claim' to be in the closed beta then try to spread panic because "you say" the game won't run on your computer. Now you change your tune and try to convince "other" customers that they should "wait" to buy the game.
It's a nice try but I think 90% of the people here can see that you have an agenda.
I have posted proofs that the game isn't running for me. Those are deleted cause of breach of NDA. As for my agenda other than asking ppl to not Pre-order something that they are not sure will be working - And that we as paying custimors should be asking for working product at launch. Then I hope you see it as well as others. If you think my agenda is anything diffrent then your welcome to think so.
I will be the first to tell you if my issues with the game dissapear and Im pretty sure that Pre-orders will tell you if spellweaving is in at launch and they will probaly tell us what they think of it.
What Im asking ppl to do is not spend even 2 cents on product that is not ready or in any way broken- then it doesn't matter if its AOC - WAR - WOW - AC or Super mario. If you dissagree with me on that one then ok. But then maybe you will think back at some point cause its us that are allowing the developers to throw things out that are not ready. It wont change unless we do something about it.

There are reasons that software like drivercleaner.net, perfectdisk, perfecdiskRXsuite exist.
no they don't exist to just look at :P
Now - is the goal to do better than the games that were unplayable or to set the standard abit higher ?
changing your arguement now?
That might well include the minimum and recommended spec that I will mention l8ter.secondly - its not playable for me.

See...I kept screaming that LOTRO was the end...it was a bad game..it just was not readyThey still have not shut that one down, and ready for this?

Again - Point that out to Funcom cause there is not one word about that in their minimum or recommended spec on their Pre-Order.http://www.ageofconan.com/order_UK.html

Id prefer that FUncom would answer one of many posts sent to their Tech support before thatThey havn't. They have all the details. They have stated they know about memory leaks issues. Rest is just waiting.
If people were smart enough they would realize vista needs more than 1 gigs.
All the minimum specs really mean is that the game will start up, but does not guarantee you will run the game without issues, most of the time if you meet minimum specs you are going to barely be able to play it all. This is why they put out the recommended spec, recommended basicly means if you meet this you shouldn't have any performance issue, and should have a good gaming experience. thats it.
