Usually Mordria you make sense but this time you lost me.
If you look at the pictures.. there's a window that says "No additional Instances available"
It only happens when the zone gets over a certain number of players.
I'm just trying to put the "OMG THERE"S INSTANCES" at ease lol
Come to think of it ... and correct me if I'm wrong, the 2 games that did not have instances, Vanguard and Horizons, didn't turn out so hot...
It's a great idea, but not very practical.
So another words there isn't enough people playing to make a new instance...
Correct
Have you played EQ2?
It does the same thing, and after you leave Tortage, the 1-20 zone, the game is very much like EQ2 in design. There's 3 different 20-30ish zones, 3 30-40ish zones etc.. And they are not linear. You can run around all over the zones.
I don't know why everyone is making such a big deal over this. It's not like it hasn't been done before.
I think they made the 1-20 for a nice presentation of the game and a tutorial but I can see how after doing Tortage several times it will get old. Hopefully they will make new starter areas in the future. People have been discussing it quite a bit on the forums.

EVE Online is seamless there are no instances + full collision server side. Seamless worlds are praitical and can work when the game dev knows what they are doing.
I do like EvE Online but, EvE is not seamless. It has over 5,000 different solar systems that you zone into through the jump gates.
EvE was the first game that I beta tested and my first mmo. It got me hooked on mmo's
As is so often the case, you are confusing instances with zones.
EVE has over 5000 thousand different zones, but for each zone there is only one instance of it. (much to the dismay perhaps of anyone who's ever lagged out trying to get into Jita)
AOC can have more than one instance of the same zone (very true of the starter cities of course, not so bad out in the open world Im sure)
And AOC is brutal with its zoning, sometimes requiring a player to zone to get into a tavern, or within a certain dungeon (which are zones) you can easily hit multiple zone doors (which are great for avoiding ganking btw)
The instances don't really concern me, the heavy zoning is sort of getting me down.
I did not say "instance" anywhere in my 4 sentences
Correct Have you played EQ2? It does the same thing, ....
I second that!
And someday, I hope at least -- people will finally get, that instances are a good design tool. I was about to write a whole post about that but I am just too tired (and also too angry about the clueless posts I see here on the forums about instances). Just relax .. AoC is just doing the same thing with instances as EQ2.
I thought I read someones post about choosing a less populated server so they wouldnt have to fight over spawns? I could be wrong. Also, looks like PB doesnt like those 3 meg png's. Bandwidth exceeded lol.
You can if there are so many people in a zone that is creates another instance of the zone. I've yet to see that outside of Tortage where there are a gazillion people playing lol

LOLZ!!! EVE Online is an empty space filled with ships!! Of course you can load all of that on ONE instance!
Any game that uses a lot of geometry on screen like AoC should have instancing.. it cuts down on the framerate.
Funcom should of been honest , and not lay the load torwards release. Meaning, they should of said 3 years ago , "hey , we think the game will be more effective with this design over an open world design..." BUT, Funcom knew people didn't like instancing in major titles like this so thery keep it hush until 2 months into 2008 , is when everyone finally knew how the game was being designed. I like instances if they are an additive to a game, that propel a small part of the story forward in a way that creates an immersive avenue for the player for that particular part of the stories arch. The way that it is done in Conan does not do that, it is done to ease the load for the xbox 360 as well as an easy out for actually having to create a consistent universe of Horwards Lore. There is no connectivity between one are to the next, like in other games where you have climate variations when you go from one elevation to the next, or you go from sand into forest, there is an immersive blend that will always be missing from AoC that can never be filled because of the over all games design.....
I don't understand why you say people don't like instancing. I've been playing this game since before release and it has not affected my game play at all.
My fanboy detector is tingling.. thanks for confirming my fears from open beta experience, this seems pretty useless for pvp, guess its ok for pve though.
Need further feedback from this game at higher levels.

I didn't even notice it in Tortage.
Why do you think it's such a problem?
Your post title is "Where are all the instances"? Now you want to know why some people dont like them? For exactly the reason Solareus illustrates. You should get on with AoC and stop worrying if some people don't like it for various reasons. It's instanced, the sky isn't going ot fall on anyone's head because of this. It is a design feature that some people dont like, myself included. It doesn't make AoC a bad game.
Hi, I dont play this game simply because my computer cant handle it( just slightly under recommended requirements) but I really like tht map style. Looking at your images it looks nice and clean.
I don't understand why you say people don't like instancing. I've been playing this game since before release and it has not affected my game play at all.
I didn't even notice it in Tortage.
Why do you think it's such a problem?
1. it breaks immersion
2. the developer said almost 3 years after the game is developing, that they went with heavy zones and instances..
Maybe you aren't really playing the game then if you are not immersed in it ?
I can post a few hundred screen shots on here if you would like. I've been playing quite a bit which is why I'm having a hard time understanding why it breaks immersion.

I have and yes its immersion breaking beyond belief. I hate it when i m rushed along pointA to point B and then feel trapped inside these invisible walls only to zone for the millionth time only to see a handfull of people on the other side. It is a HUGE mistake IMO to make a MMO like this, period.
Ah ok. As long as they make them a bit bigger (we wont find that out for months and months probably). Then people can really stop complaining.
