Only a few das after launch, Funcom can now reports that Age of Conan has passed the 400.000 subscriber mark. It´s still short of their designed server capictiy of 600.000- 700.000 subcribers, but Funcom seems to be pleased.
However, Olav Sanders are still aiming for one millsion subscribers within the next 3 month
I cant believe they dare released there subscriber number at this time. I remember that Eidos have shipped/produced about 700.000 units of Age of Conan. Thats mean there are still 300.000 units there is NOT sold. I also remember when I was down in my local EB game store here there was entire rows of AoC boxes.

Very good numbers. Buts its a tad shy from the 700,000 some posters have been posting on. Are these official numbers?

Why wouldn't they release sub numbers? 400K in the first week puts them in the top 10 games pay MMO's right now, and it might help convince folks who are holding back from buying it to go pick up one of those 300K copies you seem concerned about that are unsold on the shelves. (maybe they'll end up in the land of misfit toys?)
I'd say it points to a solid launch so far, time will tell whether they can reach the magic 1M mark.

Impressive but since it s the free month period it won t impress me much till a month or 2 after that free time is up. Even then they have alot of competition to contend with shortly after that.
Good job, as long as people don't get too bored too fast they could hit 1 mil. It's a good start anyways.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

However Funcom will not report any further subscriber number due to uncertainty finacial guidance. I also find this strange; So far I remember there was over one million sign up for the beta?
Lets wait 2-3 month and see

SOLD OUT IN NEW ZEALAND
It just arrived late in NZ and is already sold out .. some people gotta wait for a new shipment .
THIS GAME IS MASSIVE!
hmm, aint the 30 days free trial still active. Why should 400.000 players start paying when they still got like 24 freebies left?

I believe they are referring to retention of players after the initial included 30 days of service.

heh, I honest don't know, but valid question. But I guess it should be 400K players and not subscribers yet. Funcom made a mistake there.

Technically everyone who bought the box is currently a subscriber. They won't have to subtract those already cancelled until the 30 free days are up.

Well its 400,000 boxes sold, we'll need to wait atleast a month too see how my subscribers they have. So this is some nice marketing but is misleading.
400,000 is impressive though.

Alot of things they've done indicates fairly clearly that their #1 priority now is to milk the box sales of the 300,000 copies left in stores.
They do have a good marketing team, credit where credit is due.
400,000 boxes sold is awesome. Just for reference, last year the NPD top selling PC games had a a SIMS expansion sitting in at #10 with 250,000 boxes sold. Good news for Funcom and the MMO industry.
They have their clever marketing team and WoW to thank for that.
400,000-1
As i've just cancelled my sub after enduring 10 days of 9000+ latency spikes rendering the game unplayable. IMO fixing this should have been a priority but nothing has been done, which is a shame as i think i would have enjoyed the game if the first 18 lvls are anything to go by.
I've got a nasty DSL connection in the back woods of Idaho and don't have those kinds of lag spikes.
Check your settings.
Game runs just fine for me.
it appears about 1 third to half have canceled there subscriptions so the drop off will be close to what i predicted and conan will have a player base of around two hundred thousand in a few months time . i think it ll stabilise at somwhere between that and 300 -500 thousand over the course of the year . it will never hit one million . already people are noticing it limitations due to the instancinig . also the spec requirements disclude a huge number of would be players at present .it ll make money thats the bottom line so we can rate it as a reasonable success and not a disaster like vanguard ,
its fast becoming clear that it wont be a wow killer but then i dont think many of us thought it would be did we ?
Grats to Funcom for their launch success and their players. The game is just going to get better as time moves on.
It seems to be a problem with the EU servers and is being experienced by an awful lot of people (many of which have all ready cancelled their subs)

What are you basing this on? Attrition is natural, but I highly even a fraction will drop the game. The only titles to experience this have either flat out lied to their customers, DnL, or had an amazingly craptacular launch, Vanguard.
Now that Blizzard has shown the industry what it can expect, any major title should expect numbers like these. Good job Funcom!

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
This is the case: 400.000 has registered their account and billing info after getting the game and managed to install it and patch it. There are still a lot of people waiting for their game to arrive from online orders, some bought the game but are awaiting the activation for various reasons: rig upgrade, problems installing/patching the game, away for the weekend (EU release was 23/5), students have exams, .. you name it.
I am having a hard time to find online retailers that has the game in stock. I think they have practically sold out the first 700.000 copies
The number of people that will join in the comming weeks/months will be greater than the number of people that will leave. That's a fact I'm almost sure of. None of my RL mmo friends have bought the game yet, still waiting for the hype to calm down. I think there are a lot others.
Just went past a random EB today. Shelf behind the counter is full of AoC boxes.
