I am having a hard time to find online retailers that has the game in stock. I think they have practically sold out the first 700.000 copies

Try real stores in real life.

Just went past a random EB today. Shelf behind the counter is full of AoC boxes.

Went on a search in Melbourne for a copy of the game, was all sold out

they had age of conan boxes there too - they put them up so people could reorder them /shrug - did you even bother to ask if the game was in stock?

ive seen ebgames do it with a few other titles - put the boxes out to attract sales, and on the shelf under pre-order.

MASSES of boxes here in the stores in Belgium. How many do you want :))?

So how big is the MMO market in Belgium?

Because Australia wide it seems to be hard to find a copy, I had to put a pre-order deposit down to get a copy of a released game!

    Nice try.

But no, they were real boxes with the game in them.

In Belgium they use the same method in one of the biggest game store: GameMania.

They put the box in the shelves so that you can (pre-)order the game. GameMania had boxes in stores a month before launch.

Not very likely, most games don't grow much in the first few months with WoW being the exception.  The fact that so much negative opinions are out there about the game and the fact the lvl 40-80 content is a mess and I just don't see it growing right away.

I wonder how the buddy keys will come in view with this after say 10-15 days. Will some buy the games as well and push the subscribers to about a million? Also I guess people are waiting for money to maybe upgrade their computers, which this game might be a nice opertunity for.

It's top 10 player in the MMO market.. but hardly makes Blizz scared I think.

You know when you play too much MMO's when your partners pants have become a rare drop.

Well as it stands right now it's beating what WoW did at release, anything else is supposition and guesswork.

The game in general has had excellent reviews and scores for a newly released mmo, which are notorious in the industry for piss poor ratings. Lets do what all should have dome with the game and wait and see. Else we could all end up looking like the fools who predicted AoC would bomb at release.

Imo the game is decent it has problems but they all do its intrinsic to the genre, but from my point of view it has infinitely more going for it than WoW ever did with the exception of system requirements.

With the rating it has I certainly hope those 400k subscribers are actually on the mature side >.>

    Clever things.

Keeping in mind the high hardware requirements for this game those numbers are great.

you have to remember also we are in a economic downturn and people arent flocking out like they used to to pick up a new shiny game.... there are other things in life like keeping a roof over your head as well...

The only thing AoC is beating WoW at release is the initial launch number, and that's mainly because WoW increased the mmo playerbase 10-fold.

  • KroganKrogan Member UncommonPosts: 304

already signs are showing that the game is starting to slow and die out, people are starting to realize an mmo is not about graphics and that the world is fully instanced rather then zoned as was wildly believed prior to launch.

They can sell 5 million copies of the game, I don't care.  It is the concurrent subscribers on January 1, 2009 that will tell us if the game is a success or not.  I have it on good authority the server indicators for Funcom are broken.  All the servers say normal population regardless of when you log into the game.  None say low population, non say high populations.  Some people can't log in because their "normal" server is full.  Others are re-rolling on new servers because they can't find enough people.  It is 1/2 dozen of one, six of the other.  Like I said, let me know where we stand on January 1, 2009.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Thats funny i had to drive 100 miles to get a copy on release 5/20 (since all 7 stores that would carry it had no copies). So after reading your post i decided to call both EBgames and gamestop and they stated they would not have a copy for atleast 2 weeks. Of course i live in a town with 3 colleges so the area is loaded with gamers.

I just logged in and saw 3 servers marked as heavy load ? and the rest were normal capacity. My original server deathwhisper gives me queues times to log in and clearly says heavy load. They can't find people to group with since most people are not familiar enough with any of the interfaces to even bother grouping. If you want to group best bet is to wait till level 25 ish and in those zones I ALWAYS see people spamming for looking for more for Mayhem and the other 25ish instance.

Why do we have to let you know? (concerning Shannia)

I'm not having any troubles. Was, but not now.

That's fine you don't like the game...oh, well. There are detractors in every game. Just read the forums.

They honeymoon lasts for 3 months with any MMo. Lots of games hit very high numbers their first month due to release hype etc.. Just look at Grand Theft Auto 4 which sold 1.5million copies its opening day all due to the hype surrounding it. Now it is a good game, but it could have been a steaming pile and it still would have sold that many just due to the name and the stuff surrounding it.

Lots of people like conan, it didn't take much to say hey you know you like conan buy this game etc..

Yeah it really depends on the area you live in, here in NYC there is no such thing as "sold out." There will always be stores that will have the games.

I live a couple of blocks from a Gamestop and I'm pretty sure that i can walk there tomorrow and see boxes or AoC there.

    MMEEEEEHHHHH!!!

However, Olav Sanders are still aiming for one millsion subscribers within the next 3 month

I cant believe they dare released there subscriber number at this time. I remember that Eidos have shipped/produced about 700.000 units of Age of Conan. Thats mean there are still 300.000 units there is NOT sold. I also remember when I was down in my local EB game store here there was entire rows of AoC boxes.

Considering they lied about all their collectors editions being sold out (there's several collecting dust in most game stores) and how they lied about most of the features of their games, I'm almost certain this is either a direct lie, or just the number of boxes bought + buddy keys. 400,000 6 days after release isn't much to be proud of. The number is just going to keep going down.

Sadly i bet your right. I was looking forward to this releae but with so many negative reviews there is no way im gona buy it.   Bring on my free trial. ><

It's a good idea to wait for a buddy key if you're borderline, or unsure if your computer can handle the game.

As for the negativity, it's something normal on these forums. Two months ago, the most popular game was getting the worst bashing. The haters just have a new target now. Don't worry, they will move on to WAR, when it's closer to release.

The game has zero subscribers right now doesn't it?

Got to wait until one month after release to see how many who bought the game actually subscribe.

This is a somewhat false claim.
