And of course WAR was the first to introduce the idea of getting rewards based on what you do in the game. Never before in the history of mankind has such an idea arisen, and it's uniqueness is a reason in itself to buy the game... Sorry but WAR wasn't exactly the first to come up with this, and the idea has been around for a long time; just because you happened to be introduced to it the first time in WAR doesn't mean WoW rips of WAR when they introduce it.
The Misc, Quests, and Exploration tabs are what I would enjoy...could care less about the PvP, and Arena stuff! Looks like it will add a lot more fun to WoW overall....at least I find games that even if the purpose is just to fill up a bar at least you're working towards something!
Doubtful, but hopefully Blizzard will stop with this ignoring the PvE players and with this achievements system add sets of gear that the PvE players can earn though it. I hate it so much cause WoW is a PvE game until you hit the cap, but there is nothing for them once you get there... End game basically tells the PvE player that you suck and you have to play PvP and Raids if you want to progress further even though thats all you did to get there!
My biggest problem with wow at the moment is total lack of incentive to go out there and explore.
In the vanilla version at least you had several non-instanced dungeons to wade through like the troll place in the hinterlands and the massive section beneath felwood. That was what was lacking in the first expansion.
The new feature doesnt necessarily give any encouragements to explore northrend, although we dont know whats there yet.
My own personal opinion of wotlk so far is the only reason to play on is for the deathknight.
It does look like blizz bless em are a tad concerned about WAR and a few other titles stealing their precious playerbase.
About the screenshots mind you, everything with [PH] is placeholders most likely. This is probably just basics before they expand.
I hope your right. If it is as simplistic as what it looks like now, its verry sad indeed.
Yeah, I was calling fake the second I saw "Super Quest Dude" but then they appeared on alpha site and PH = placeholders most likely was added to it.
I can see Blizzard doing this ^^ It won't be anything near the ToK most likely but at least having something similar is a nice addition to any MMO, i hope it becomes a main element.
Well, in spite of whether Blizzard did indeed rip off WAR's ToK or not, shouldn't we be remembering that this is why competition is good?
Ideally, it'll raise the quality of both products and while I have not seen enough of either Blizzard's or Mythic's implementation of the ToK into their game, if it's a good thing, then what's the problem with both games having it? In the worst case scenario, if WAR does in fact fall through, shouldn't we be glad that WoW copied that aspect?
Blizzard has been steadily adding ways for people to have non-raiding avenues of progression for their characters. They have recently said they want most items to be close to top tier raiding, but one "season" behind in quality. I just don't get the whole Woe is me mentality of being forced to raid anymore.
In WoW's defense, WAR wasn't the first game to have achievements. Not by a long shot. It's been done many times before, and Blizzard seems to be adding a lot more actual RPG elements into WotLK. Still, they're only kind of progression is gear in the endgame, which I just find to be ridiculously stupid. Either way, it's not a rip-off.

No one said they did infact most of us know it came from Xbox live and the success of the Lord of the Rings Online ones. Your the only one saying or rather accusing people of saying that. We're merely discussing how funny it is that Wraith of the Lich King is nothing but ripped off ideas from AoC & WAR. Infact if neither game were in production the most you'd get in Wraith of the Lich King is the Death Knight and more Raids. Those are the only two things being put in the expansion pack they didn't rip off from somewhere else.
Nothing is wrong with this of course they do have to keep up and compete and atleast by doing so it shows they dont have their heads stuck up in the clouds somewhere. But its STILL funny that nothing is has changeda bout their design process.

After years of being released and years of the Dev's saying "Learn to Raid and Like it" attitude...its far to little far to late. Not to mention by allowing Raids to be such a powerful factor for as long as they did its caused an elitist attitude amongst the players. If you dont' raid and you get your Epics through another channel they're just "Welfare" epic's and heavily frowned apon. Not to mention they're not nearly as "epic" as the "epic" raid versions which is a complete farce. They should of never designed their end game around 1 single progression type .... but then again they are NOT known for being plan ahead thinkers they simply put out what they want and while that attitude has worked fantastic for their RTS games it doesn't for MMOs. MMOs are all about planning ahead.
Their endgame hasn't changed their progression is soley based around "gear" grinding and grinding and grinding for gear and rep. IF they ripped off an Alternate advancement system and lowered the gear requirement in order to compete that would be a huge gloriously wonderful endgame change to progression. A welcomed one by me. But their game is pretty set in stone....so whatever.

Honestly, it doesn't matter at all to me who thought of an idea first. I just want to play the game that does it best.
That said, it does seem that Blizzard has been on the defensive lately. The massive info leak before AoC, the release date of WotLK (probably a week before WAR launches). Incorporating many ideas from WAR into their expansion...
It's the old assimilate and improve method. And it works.
Hm... I notice that they haven't ripped off Age of Conan... perhaps there is nothing worth taking?
WoW's entire expansion could be basically WAR with WoW skinz and I wouldn't go back, I've been WoW free for over 2 years and I'm quite happy being WoW free. It'll keep their happy customers around though and I think thats all they're worried about. Its really a fantastic tactic if one thinks about it business wise.

WoW free for 2 years? Hmm, are there official meetings with pins for we "reformed" players? Or am I to stick to old battle tales from old PnP groups?
LOTRO wishes their deed system was even remotley similar to the TOK. Go to a convention play the game, then make statements.
NOTE: The TOK is much more then a list of achievements. Everything that happens in the game ties into it.
Agreed, the ToK is not even remotely similar to anything currently existing in mmorpgs today.
Anyone who has played and seen/tinkered with it firsthand will understand this, anyone who hasn't will see it as being very similar to others (such as LOTRO's deed system, etc..), when the reality of it is that the ToK is far and above anything prior in terms of complexity, originality and just genuine entertainment value.
people should have to play with the ToK to understand that it is mroe that just Xbox on PC but some people wont get this through their heads. just like how people do not understand the difference between RVR and PVP....there is no hope for some....

Untill WAR releases....
When WAR releases, there will be even less hope for some!
No concept is original. There has always been some game X that did Y before game Z did.
But it doesn't matter.
"Legends of Future Past" was the first MMO on the internet. If Blizzard decided to rip off an idea from it, no one would care in the slightest. People will play the game that IMPLEMENTS the idea better, and my bet is, WoW is a lot more fun than "Legends of Future Past".

its not the idea. it when they came up with the idea
like being able to battle on mounts is surprisingly similar to AOC
who gives a flying feck. nobody's ripping off anybody, how do you make a game better? you take points of other games that most people enjoyed and tweak it to try and make it better.
its not ripping off unless WoW somehow manages to copyright battlegrounds or levelling up. otherwise anyone can do whatever they want.
Blizz doesn't want to take a risk with their own ideas, why would you if you had 10 million x $15 a month coming in? Try something new and there's a chance it'll fail, but copy and paste and reskin it with the "WoW touch" and they think they've got a winner. /shrug. WAR will do it better and that's the bottom line.
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
RIPOFF. Absolutely pathetic on Blizzard's part. What's next, stealing public quests?
From what I hear they already have with their last couple of content patches...not the same thing as a WAR PQ but its still considered a 'public quest' rofl they're really poorly done and not repeatable.

Ah well....
Every other achivement system we have seen in other games has been an empty shell of what the TOK is in WAR.
