Others may disagree with me on this point, but I'll give my definition of a MMO, then I'll see if Diablo 3 fits the bill.
MMORPG = Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (per world, not player base)
In regards to my definition, diablo 3 meets 5/6 of the critera. Which ones? Mutliplayer Online Role Playing Game - not Massively.
Now, the point of the Mmorpg is the MASSIVE part of it. WIthout it, then the entire point fades away.
So, in my eyes, and many other, D3 does not, and will not qualify as a MMO.

I also believe D3 so far looks like a better looking D2, nothing more. So they put a new class in... doenst make it a new game.

And of course you never played D3... i wont even explain why it's so ovbious...
And on the main subject, no, D3 is not MMO. D3 is a mutch MMO as Counter Strike

What part of a DX3 forum does this site represent? Do you even know what DX3 stands for? DEUS EX 3.
These drivebys are even there, when this game has ZERO to do with DX3.
This is some campaign of cheap promotion, when they try to drop their hype on OTHER GAME SITES THAT'S NOT EVEN MMO BASED, LET ALONE SIMILIAR IN GENRE.
I'm glad I never played the game, and will glad that it fails like any other hyped trash. Usually games that are over hyped turn out TO BE trash.

Diablo 3 isnt a mmo. =/
Actually it's going to be a huge success in spite of any hype simply because it will be a well crafted enjoyable game. No need to get your panties in a bunch because some fool is overflowing with enthusiasm. It ain't nothin' but a thang.
Diablo is a classic, people are going to play it simply because they enjoyed diablo 1 and 2. Plus its being made by blizzard, they don't release trash games. The whole diablo franchise is very deserving of the hype it gets.
I wouldn't really mind if they put D3 on the website, but I don't think it's very appropriate...considering it's not an MMO. I'm not saying I don't like Diablo. Infact, I cannot wait untill it comes out. I'm actually playing D2 right now, and that is mainly because I got hyped about D3. It would be cool to have a place to talk on here about it and to see the news and such, but I just don't think it's very fitting, and I would be surprised if they did put it on the Game List.

Then actually guild wars should be on the list. Each district can hold up to 2000 people at the same time, and you said 500 or more playing simultaneously. There are usually atleast 500 in the good districts. The GW company also classifies themselves as an MMO. That is why it is on here. Though Blizzard has never said that D1, D2 were every mmo's were most definitely not.
The most defining aspect of a MMO is a persistent world, which GW lacks. Common meeting areas does not constitute a MMO.
Also, ArenaNet never said GW is a MMORPG. They always said it was a CORPG - Competitive Online RPG.

Maybe you are right because of latest criteria about MMO. If WoW is MMO why not Diablo? The only general difference is that chat room in WoW is 3d world that is missing in Diablo. If look deeper what MMO mean than we see that none of the Diablo or WoW are such games. After World PvP died in WoW both are Multiplayer games because only limited number of players can join the battles.
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

In aoc its impossible to play with more then 50 people on the same instance...game is made of instances..that copy itself after 50 players in same instance...50 players at same time its multiplayer game..but not massive...

Then most of the games must disappear from MMORPG.com. Even most have a bigger common map for all players than GW most of them do not differ much, To have more than cities that are common for all players do not make the game more MMO. MM mean massive multiplay and O mean online. When MM is missing from the common world map there is only one O left. Thats why GW have most cleared idea from modern MMO (that in facts are not MMO but as GW say cooperative)

are you THAT stupid? serious,... how old are you, 7? Meridion59? Ultima Online? ever heard of those titles? A MMORPG is a PERSISTANT world, D2 has random generated enviroments, it's a (damn good) singleplayer game with a (damn good) multiplayer feature, but DEFINITLY not MASSIVE. D3 will propably be the same

Yes, and its also the ToE and Blizzard has invented the wheel, the internet, and the warp drive.
Or wait, all not true. Diablo is a MP game and an Action RPG. In fact, it is THE typical example someone gives if someone else asks what an Action RPG is.

Diablo is one of the oldest HACK AND SLASH games that's still around
Diablo III will be another hack and slash game. Because diablo genre is all about killing lots of monsters and klicking lots of times repetetive.
so yeah.. It's not a mmo, not a rpg. So why are we having this discussion again?
