So you're saying these kids who wrote some silly articles on gaming sites that consider KOTOR to be the first RPG with good/bad side have a valuable opinion? RPG needs more than just a character development, otherwise Tropico or Sims would be RPG too.

So again. Where's the roleplay in Diablo series?
You and your friends battle through hordes of enemies, painting the (insert area of choice) with blood. There is a story behind it. But it's nothing you need to know when playing. Because you won't roleplay nor "live in your character" Heck, i have yet to see Rp people in Diablo2 XD
Ive played Diablo since the first game came out. I think i know more than kiddies on the net saying it's a "rpg"

Yes I do, and apparently you don't understand what MMO stands.
an MMORPG is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game in which many people interact with each other in the same, persistent world. Diablo's game rooms only allow a few people at a time, and the game world is not persistent, hence it is an online roleplaying game, not an mmorpg.

Roleplaying in a video game does NOT mean pretending the game is real. When people speak of an RPG game it does not mean a digital version of LARP.

LOL, I'll bet none of those sites you mentioned has a person as old as I am, so yeah written by kids.
And you don't need to work in the video game industry to understand that D3 is not an MMORPG, therefore does not qualify by definition for this site. (and I agree, there's some other games here that shouldn't be as well)
And while it might be true that many people hate Blizzard (not sure why that pisses you off though) I assure you that isn't why people don't want to see D3 on this site.
It simply doesn't qualify due to its lack of a persistent world, simple as that.

I meant the single player campaign not being really a rpg. More like hack'n slash or action game with rpg features. Story + character development is not what makes a game RPG. It's the amount of choices within the adventure quests and a possibility to develop your character "persona" apart from combat mechanics. (Arcanum, Fallout 1/2, BG 1, Planescape Torment... to name a few)

I never understood the graphical common area part. Yes I know what it means but wouldnt that signify that the common are would be required to hold at least 500 players in that one area? GW (along with others) while having a common area only hold so many before they make a copy of the world.

I would be its still going to be mainly hack'n'slash. If not there will be alot of disapointed people out there. When I think of the D series I think and want mindless hours of killing thats done well. Thats what D has offered people for years thats better done than any other h'n's out there.

If they have Hellgate London on this site, which also is not a MMO, seems absurd that they exclude Diablo III.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
One thing you can guarentee, it will have bigger numbers than any of these MMO's out there, including the Asian ones.
Pretty dumb to ignore a game that will be that popular.
Sims 2 is even more popular. Why the hell does www.mmorpg.com not include Sims 2 on their list?

Arcanum probably one of my most valued games ever.
Truth is NWN on the other hand had one of the best online roleplaying servers I've been on.

MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. What part of that is so hard to comprehend? If they allow Diablo 3 on this site than they will have to also include any other game that has any kind of multiplayer support. This would include all FPS titles and most Sports games. Ummmm.....as much as I have enjoyed the Diablo series of games....no thanks, it doesn't belong here.
