I'm struggling to find something new... but all I see is another elf/goblin world with the same gameplay elements as other games...

The RvR which is the game's main selling point, is just zerg-battles... no matter how much you try to polish it.
If you want a game for the graphics/action/blood/carnage... play AoC (No.. it's not as bad as people say... but it needs A LOT work yet)
If you want a game for it's lore and character/world depth, play LOTRO (which is unparalleled in these areas)
and if you want a game that's got a lot of things to do then play WoW (...i'm not a fanboi... i hate it' for what it has become)

So why play yet another game that offers you the same things as countless other games?....

Sure you might play it for a change of scenery, but how long will that last?....
Anyway... I'd like to hear some constructive posts... please don't flame me... just expressing my opinions and i'm not  fanboi of any games.. (other than the Fallout series :))

    edit: fixed for NDA...(I hope)

The Evles and Goblin, etc. sell games, that's why companies make MMO's using them.

This isn't the same gameplay, because it is a completely different game, it will last because this game will attract people who haven't played WoW (Warhammer table-top gamers).

Because I missed the boat on DAoC and I want to play RvR.  I was one of many sucked in by WoW and I had a great time there, but i want some real RvR action.

Because I really liked DAoC's implementation of PvP.  I am a fan of RvR concept.  DAoC is great at it.  WAR is new.  (I am in beta too so trying not to break NDA).  The zerg stuff is dicussable and can only be done fater NDA is lifted and/or game is released. I had hear the same nonesense about zerging at DAoC... its all matter of opinions.

WoW has a lot to do but only PvE (unless you like WoW's PvP... in that case... we cant discuss because our tastes of PvP are different... totally different).

LOTRO is nice pve game with as bad pvp as wow.  AoC is... well... aoc... maybe with a little better pvp but still a crappy one, full of bugs and the combat system that is ionnovative but I dont like.

So I will try WAR cuz it's a new RvR game and many many former DAoC will try it again.  The guild will get reformed!!!  We coming back!!!

If you didn´t experience DAoC, you may not understand all this.  And maybe you did play DAoC and didn´t like it.  Again I cant talk of WAR cuz of the NDA.

So I will try it because I am a fan of DAoC and of its RvR.

I loved DaOC's RvR. It has been the only MMO with this concept that was a success. That is why I am betting on WAR being as successful as DaOC! Stale game play? Only time will tell, but I doubt it.

Yeah I agree with the last 2 posters.  RvR is going to be what drives this game and there hasn't been a good massive PvP game since DAOC.  WoW was pretty fail in this respect.

MMO PvP should have a massive option, something WoW sorely lacked.

While I agree with this for sure I will say that WAR has 20+ battleground type scenarios as well and they bring a lot more variety than WoW did with their battlegrounds.   Players who really enjoy instanced objective based pvP will absolutely love this game as well as those who enjoy RvR.

The PQ system really supports PvE grouped players as well and there are more than enough solo quests for that type of player.  This game is going to have mass appeal and not just RvR player appeal.

you forgot choice number four....which is play WAR and that will pretty much cover all three of those games

The warhammer IP is huge and will provide alot of room for expansion to the game, the characters and depth is there, the quests rewards are all based on your current class, PQs, rvr, sieges, crafting, scenarios(BGs for wowers), living guild system, lots of different classes to play, 40 character ranks, 80 renown ranks etc...

In a world where the core of the game resets itself and could end up being boring after 3 months of doing the same thing over an over. Well thats my worry anyway.

Actually, the OP got some points... Mythic should have skipped the whole level system and gone for the brilliant system of "Warhammer fantasy roleplaying". Just use the same system as all other fantasy MMOs takes away a lot of the Warhammer feeling (I played it 15 mins at D3 so I cant really comment the gameplay that much). I been playing the RPG since the 80s and have waiting for something like this. But the original PnP rules would work as good as the D&D stuff everyone uses now, they are a lot better. But MMO companies seems to copy eachother a tad to much for my taste even though WAR got some nice new ideas.

But The world of Warhammer is really good and perfect for a computer game. LOTR dont have a world thats made for gaming in, and making a book series into a game is a lot harder than a roleplaying setting. If you like lore, than the game have an intresting world.

No, I wouldnt count out Mythic and War just yet, even though the rescent cuts made me a lot more careful. But we need a few more good MMOs so let's hope it will deliver.

Well it's nice to see the flaming kept to a minimum (didn't expect it considering the insane amounts of flame in other threads towards people who don't seem to like the game as much as others).

Noone is saying the game will fail... and noone is saying that it won't attract many many subscribers...

Of course it will be succesfull... but also it won't be "Ze Best MmO in all of ze existance" ... not by a far margin.

So both of these radical ways of thinking are wrong :) (imho)

As far as I've gathered, the only reason to continuously play this game is for the RvR...  the PvE content is limited compared to other games... and the PvP is.. well.. the RvR...

So Mythic is taking an old succesfull idea, re-vamping it and dishing it out mostly to the people who liked the DAOC RvR and to the people who like the Warhammer universe.

I'm sure many other people will also try it, looking for something new to play...

I'm really concerned on how it's going to keep hold of people... What happens when you're bored with the RvR.... ?

What keeps the millions of people playing WoW when the Raiding gets old? I think WAR has more than enough to keep people entertained.

  • sgelsgel Member EpicPosts: 2,197

Raiding takes a long time to get old in WoW... it's got years of development behind it... and people seem to enjoy it's PvP and crafting as well.. (I repeat... I hate the game, before you start again)

I wasn't saying you like it, WoW is just an easy example. PvP, for me at least, never gets old. Since, unlike an instance, you can't just plan which mobs to fight first, which to pull, etc. PvP is against real people and it is always exciting, to me at least.

You say it like RvR is not a big thing...   when *most* people get bored of RvR, the game will have been around for years..  all other forms of PvP are shallow and meaningless compared to proper RvR.  Have you played DAoC?

Oh, and what makes you think PvE will be limited?

The people who enjoyed DAoC will get bored with the RvR much later than people who don't.

And the PvE is limited because for someone who wants to play a game for the PvE, IT IS limited in WAR compared to other games. (apart from AoC ;))
