Im pretty sure that WAR will beat WOTLK to the market. Aion, im not so sure. Zebras are pretty cool.

Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
I'm actually surprised most MMO's don't do this. Just making the event cause some hype (see fact that people are reading this post), and generate some new players to boot.
However I wonder how many people are going to actually recruit a friend. compared to how many people are going to buy a new box. Hey I bet'cha every hardcore raider will

I see Blizzard is in trouble with WoW..no one really cares about WotLK, the game has gone beyond absurd with the Motorcycle mount, and Positive Buzz about WAR from Beta testers grows almost hourly.
Don't worry Blizzard you still have D3 and SC2 (Not to mention the eventual Diablo MMO) to fall back on.
I would do it, if they give me a penguin mount.

Its not hype he means that it will be out before WOTLK and this almost certainly going to happen nothing to do with hype. The WAR NDA will almost certainly be lifted within the next two weeks. WAR will probably be out before November maybe even mid-september.
I have heard that Open Beta for WAR will only be about 9-12 days.
Beat to market means time. Beat in the market might mean he thought it would do better in sales. Two very different things.

I doubt this has anything to do with upcoming War or anything else. They always do promotional things and this one isn't really that exclusive. A zebra mount isn't something that I would want in WOW, maybe girls might. 10mill subs I doubt they are worrying about other games.
Also Diablo 3 coming soon will give them another few million subscribers total. Except I think Diablo may reach 20mill subs or more after 1yr.

What are you talking about? I am suggesting Blizzard has nothing to worry about or prove about adding things to get new customers. Yes Diablo will summon millions of players. If you do not know anything about the game then don't speak because everyone will agree they will have millions of subscribers. 20million wouldn't be an outrageous number either.

i highly doubt they sell 20m copies of D3,and i doubt even more than 25% of those buyers are interested in anything other than the offline game. blizard's best-seller, starcraft,didnt even reach 10m copies...and that already is awesome.
real online gamers have other games to draw their attention, and D2 was mainly an offline game.so sure diablo diehard fans are count by millions,but not that many,and not in that area.
and anyway an offline game with no MMO component and ladder system might get subs,but can it keep them? no

sob I just did 3 new friends like 3months ago and I want one damn it. The above posters it is possible they could get near twenty million subs for diablo but not exclusively. I know blizzard will be doing that game for all asian eu and us markets and outstanding marketing may draw those kinds of numbers you never know.

Diablo never succeeded between the asian public, starcraft did,and did hard.
and even tho starcraft was (and is) one of the top bestseller games in the history of PCs,it didnt reach 10m copies after 10 years now.
do you seriously think that a game that doesnt appeal the biggest/most important market will double that hit in 1/10th the time?
and not only that. i stand by my opinion. less than half the people that will buy D3 cares a damn about the online option. and less than a half of those that do, will keep a subscription for long when the offered online content is so short.
had it been a MMO,things would be different. but still 20million is the mother of all exaggerations.

#2. Diablo 2 for a long time held the record for the most copies sold in the least amount of time. In its day it had over 4 million copies sold.
20 million subs? Impossible as I don't think they'll have a subscription.

In my opinion, they are doing it for that reason, and it is good business to do so. Any company that doesn't use marketing strategies like the ones implemented by WoW is slacking. As a player of WoW, I appreciate the actions WoW takes to preserve my games player base.
I think the number of people you can tell about WoW is reducing pretty much, this will make people a bit more desperate to get their 'friends' to join despite maybe being non-mmo players.
Typical WoW fanboy. That 10 million number is inflated to teh mex. China gets to create WoW accounts basically for free and they pay by time. The US/EU subs are around 2million (subs have actually dropped). It would be bad business for Blizzard to say they're losing players or WoW has hit it's peak.
Blizzard could ship game boxes full of crap and you fools would be happy.

WAR may take a couple of thousand WoW players in NA and (maybe) EU (not so sure since i hardly play with anyone from there). it wont dent the millions of players in China and, with 11 million subs, they have plenty to fall back upon.
look at the statistics for every "major" MMO that has launched in the past 2 years. all have never broken the 1 million subs mark. most hover between 250-500,000 and most are slowly declining (aparently). if you think WAR will be any different you are sadly mistaken.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

750k+ people want to get into Closed beta
now lets just ASSUME that only 1/3 of the people are going to buy it then there is a good
250k people
so 500k subrscribers is well within reach,
even with a low guesstimation
Well - lets put it this way.
Blizzard need to get me playing WoW again before they can even dream of me recruiting a friend. Currently the WOTLK for my class and spec is pointing me to WAR.
