You have to admit that it's a bit strange. Blizzard has been pretty adamant over the years about not giving away anything more than aesthetic rewards, vanity pets and costumes and such, and now suddenly they want to hand out free levels and let you summon your friend whenever you like? It's obviously a desperate plea to keep people playing until the expansion. They've run out of content to keep us around for the next couple months and I'd be willing to bet their unsub rate is through the roof.

2 months after I bought EQ SoF they gave the full game / full expansion, 3 months free playtime and free items to anyone subbing to EQ.
I was pissed and lol'd at the same time how they could pull it off.
It's like buying an ipod and a week later Apple tells everyone they're free now and you get a free subscription of AT&T as a gift.
A couple things. Wow is not dying. Three pieces of proof.
1. Blizzard recently announced that they have reached 10.9 million subscribers. A subscriber is someone who paid money in the last 30 days to play the game. Yes, many locations in Asia pay per hour, but that still means they paid in the last 30 days. This statement was made about 4 months ago, and shows that overall WOW is growing.
2. in North American, WOW Vanilla, WOW TBC and WOW battlechest are each, individually in the top 10 in sales for pc games last week. Obviously, even in NA, that means there are many people trying WOW for the first time.
3. By the end of the 30 day free period of AOC, the Blizzard CEO stated that 40% of those players that quit WOW to play AOC had already come back. I'm sure that percentage is much higher now.
As far as the new promotion. I don't think it is nearly as hardcore as people think. In order to get triple experience, both players need to be playing at the same time, in the same location and be in the same party. This bonus exp also does not stack with rested Exp. The 'freebie' levels that you get on another character can only be used on a character that is lower level then the friends character. All bonuses end at lvl 60 or 90 days, whichever comes first.
Its the perfect time to try this.. get a friend to play and you now have enough time to get an alt from 1-70 along with having your friend ready to adventure with you when Wraith launches.

Blizzard may be lying but it would be completely illegal to do so and they would be liable so they have more credibility than you. Also they have there quarterely reports which again show an increase in subs, those could be doctored but once again they would be liable and so till proven otherwise must be accepted.

They are doing this because they are upping the level cap by 10, and they want people to not feel intimidated by being so far behind the curve.
They sped up leveling and changed a lot of things to be easier for tbc, why would you not expect something similar for wotlk?
Then theres the conditions for this "deal"
1. The exp bonus is only when your grouped with your friend.
2. every 2 levels the person you bring in gets, can grant one of your characters one level, but your char has to be LOWER level then them.
3. a vanity mount, and friend to friend summoning.
ITS SO YOU CAN BRING FRIENDS IN and.... PLAY WITH THEM WITHOUT YOU DIEING OF BOREDOM.
And just for the record, learn about how they really count asian market numbers before you go on your ignorant remarks.

They made a game to be casual and hardcore friendly.
They realize they didn't do enough for the casual crowd.
They try to let the hardcore players get the first shot, get the best of everything, and then let the casuals come in later, do some of the content, get some of the rewards, have a chance at playing the game, instead of sitting around doing nothing.
The game never had any intention of becoming a open world pvp game, it's why from the beginning there was no real pvp system, then they added penalties for doing things in the real world that interrupted pve too much. At the same time, adding in small secluded -balanced- pvp areas. Then they added in small skilled based arena competition since players wanted and asked for skill based earning.
It wasn't enough.
Then in wotlk they are further allowing casuals to have a shot(10 man versions) but not giving them everything the hardcore get.
You could say "easymode epics" If you say that, then you've obviously never raided molten core, or ZG, they flew out of bosses you downed, especially if you were one of the later people into the raiding group, because the items that dropped, which normally would have been divided between 4-10 players, suddenly flew at you and you geared up initially faster then almost anyone else did. Then you reached the point where you were slowly dropping in items,
Then the PvP system, which at the time was flawed because of inexperience.
Everything done to wow, has been a easy natural progression that you can tell they are learning and trying to adapt the game to who plays it on the whole. Rather then some of the top elite who still want 40 man content.
90% of the games userbase never seeing most of the content
1-2 specs for raiding(hybrids=healers for example was a big one for a long time, balance druids? feral druids? jokes. Enhancement shaman/elemental shaman? again not really cared about at all, it wasn't uncommon to see people forced to spec to heal to raid, or even spec'd another spec, to heal.
Look at the original tier sets for crying out loud, they weren't feral druid sets, there was no enhancement set.
I've played wow since the beginning.
I've seen the hate against wow being too "raid or die"
I've seen the hate against wow being too "pvp all day or die"
Then when they fix it, and change the game to be a good game, that obviously screams experience and evolution rather then stagnation and inexperience, all of a sudden people think the old system was so great, when it frankly wasn't.
It's the same thing as SWG, now globally recognized as the best mmo ever made before NGE, even though back in the beginning, it wasn't that globally loved, liked, or respected.
Blizzard hasn't changed, they still are doing the same thing, in a obvious line to the future.
What has changed, is the playerbase, they want more and more, and they are more demanding of blizzard appeasing THEIR playstyle THEIR likes THEIR goals and THEIR ideas, that they think blizzard has done something wrong.
I have many fond memories of WOW. It helped me introduce my wife to MMO's, we began to raid and she found out the many misfortunes of being hard core. Now with the new shinanigans that Blizz has pulled I am glad I left for AOC. I am glad AOC was a piece of shit. I cant wait for War. I hope Blizz continues this type of crap and makes the game into candy land for the ignorant. Oh wait it has

You can lose 10 arena matches and still get a full set of arena gear before the next season comes out easily. PvE has become shorter, simpler and easier. Leveling has become shorter (which isn't a bad thing), but the quest icons on the mini map and quest items sparkling is a joke.

I believe we have the typical "Game of the month fanboy/Sky is falling on WoW" troll here. He already claims Warhammer will take the crown from WoW. I'm sure he said AoC would also. 1. If a AV game takes 30 minutes, and as a gross overstatement you get 1000 honor per AV, it'd take 18 games of AV, or 9 hours of play for the more expensive pieces, 7 hours for the lesser, and 5 hours for the minimum.
2. You need other tokens from other bgs in order to purchase items, even if you did do all your av games, you'd still need a full collection of other tokens, which require say 20, if you were to win every single game, and eots ab and wsg, all being 15 minute on average games, you'd need to win 7 times per item. The honor you get could be overestimated at about 400 per game.
so you'd average about 2.8k honor or about 3 av games less, so youd end up about the same time frame of 1, except you cant exactly stay in av all day and get epics.
but then consider that it there is 17 items to get, even on a minimum of item requirements it'd still take 85 HOURS!!!! to get a entire set of gear.
in other words almost 3 1/2 days of time.
And thats not even the BEST gear, heck it's 2 tiers LOWER then arena!!!
Then we get into arena items.
if you were to lose 10 games a week, and say wind up with about 1400 every week assuming it was a 5v5 team, you'd get 322 points a week, the cheapest item to get is gloves at 1125, so you'd have to wait 4 weeks to get a single item. You'd have 163 points left. if you were to continue this for the other pieces at 1875 you'd need 6 weeks before you got your new piece, and then if your lucky 5 weeks.
Sure youll get them before the next season, but don't act like it's quick nor that it's easy.
In fact it's so counter productive, a new raiding guild could form and then finish bt in the time it took you to get a full of gear.
PvE easy? i suppose so, but then again your forgetting how much of a loot pinata old bosses were at times, sure there were harder bosses that werent easy. But there are hard bosses now that aren't easy.
Heck even Kara was hard when it first started, its a joke now that we are all in t6 etc, but it was no joke in the beginning.
Badges also are a plus, it allows 5 man people to get some reward. It allows people to get into raiding easier, and it allows you to chose the gear you want.
But even then, assuming you get 2 badges per boss, and lets say each boss takes 30 minutes. Your still looking at about 25 hours of pure playing for one of the sunwell badge pieces.
Sure it seems easier compared to how it was.
But how it was was a shitty system.
I think the title of this theard should have been: "Buy a second account, get triple XP, a zebra mount, and free levels".
This promotion is obviously trying to get people to buy a second or third account. And as for the timing, the new expansion is right around the corner. So people will be buying multiple copies of it for both of the accounts.
I dont think it has anything to do with desperation or fear of upcoming competition. Its simply because they can, and they made the deal sweet enough so that they know it will work.
There is no best MMORPG, only favorites.

There is a difference between a proprietary formula for a soft drink being sold to a customer and a quarterly report to shareholders who have invested money in a company. If you don't know the difference than you have more research to do. Blizzard does have to tell shareholders things, this is required by law. No I am not a lawyer, nor do I need to be, I can read and I can reason and I can learn. Something you seem to not be able to do yet.
Eventually WoW will die, maybe to War, I don't know and really don't care. I'm not disputing that. I'm disputing your opinion on subs.
WoW is not the first game I have played not by a long shot, nor is it even the only game I play now. It is however a nice relaxed game perfect for relaxing with after a long day dealing with whiners, or running or martial arts or anything and everything else people do to give themselves a break. I pvp occasionally, rarely do BG's and actually have never raided in my life. So for me it just just about unwinding.
And encouraging people to do your marketing for you is the best form of marketing there is.

The only people hardcore enough buy a second account for the boost are people who are already 70 and are basically done, they dont need the boosts.
But you have to remember.
1. triple exp is only if you and your friend are playing together.
2. the second account can gift a lower level character 1 level for every 2 of his. so if you were to level a character on another 1-60(where it ends) the person could be taken from 30-60, which is admittedly a large boost.
But who would buy a second account, to level another character to level their current character? Especially on a second account.
And even the 300% exp bonus is relative, you get about 50% exp when grouped, so you end up with about 200% exp(or is it 150? i don't know if its 300% of normal exp or 300% more exp) either way it's not that different compared to rest exp, and rest and it doesnt stack.
The difference is quest turn ins, which is a big boost.
3. It's made so people can bring a friend they want to play with, into wow, and then play -together- with them and get to where he -already was- faster -with- his friend.
Rather then the often repeated, come play, lets play, i dont want to play a lower char anymore because its too slow.
This is completely wrong. You left out the details.
1. You would have to multi-box to get the bonus exp. Only when the two accounts are played together do they get the bonus. Also the bonus only lasts til lvl 60, so you'd still have to do outlands with no bonus
2. The 'free' levels are only up to lvl 60, and can not be used on a character that is higher level the new friends character. So you can't use the free levels to boost your main, or even the character that has been playing with the new friend.
Basically what I get is this
1. I get to create an alt that will level up fast with my friend. This is a great opportunity to roll a tank or healer type character or something like a pally which doesn't level up fast alone.
2. I get to make ANOTHER alt and get a quick boost from 29-59 (once of course I get my friend up to lvl 60).
This also is great for the new friend.. They get to have someone help them level up, and they know that person is getting a reward for their effort. When Wraith launches, they'll have a character ready for it.

Seriously. Its not about what companies don't tell you in this case, but the fact that an official statement like Blizzard's quartely numbers are NOT, repeat NOT, a lie. I'm not even going to explain why, since all you seem to believe is that all the big guns lie.
