I actually liked AOC, i recently cancelled my account... There was just nothing left to do..... i hit 80 maxed out crafting....Went on raids in the few raid zones ( maybe didnt complete them all) but i experienced them...... even tried pvp for a lil while.... but having 2 groups of people 10 levels higher than you camping all the rez points and zone outs/ins, even if you switch instances got a lil old....but pvp was fun for a bit......NOW ?

They are promising content but the content isnt coming out fast enough to keep me in-game......its pretty much turned into just logging in on patch day with fingers crossed hoping they add something new.....other than that theres no reason to play.......sure i could make alts ( made a couple)  .... i do like AOC (or did) but not enough to go thru the world all over again....

I would say its biggest flaw was just the was the game was made period and i see other mmos following the same dead end path--

Picture a funnel, you know the thing you use to pour oil in your car------it has a large opening and gradually gets smaller and smaller--------well turn that sucker upside down and you have AOC------ once you past the lil solo instance--- you come to tortage, with many quests, places to go hunt, you feel like theres alot going on....the higher level you get the more restricted you feel======= and it should feel the other way around-------the game should open up the higher you get, giving you more to look forward to the farther you get in the game but it doesnt

They need to start making mmos from the end and go backwards--- i would much rather struggle thru a craapy beginning knowing that good things are in the end game----- but i really dont like struggling thru a game and getting less and less content  and a smaller more restrictive world the higher level you get--------ALL JUST SEEMS BACKWARDS TO ME--- JUST MY 2 CENTS

    AoC...

I'm not sure if it's dead or not, but I didn't see very many people in the game while I was playing.  The largest group of people I ran into would've been about 8.  Over 40 hours of actual playtime, I think I may have run into about 150 people or so (instances may play into this?  I don't know).

For me, where the game failed... it wasn't anything special.  It didn't do anything to really set itself apart from games like DDO or LotRO, imho.  The artwork wasn't bubbly/cartoony, but it also wasn't anything incredible, either.   It certainly wasn't anything worth enduring all of the performance issues that others reported.

The combat... underwhelming.  Maybe if this was a single player console RPG, then it might be something more tolerable, to me.

About the adult content... while it not being the reason that I bought the game, I never saw any.  No t-n-a... a few cusswords... and no gore, that I saw.  So, if that was supposed to make the game different... it didn't.

A 'bright note'... I didn't have the performance issues that others report.  On 3 different systems with various specifications, I failed to have one performance issue.  (I played the game about 20 minutes on a laptop and didnt' have any issues there either.)

Again, since I didn't see many people playing, I hopped into the first guild that I was invited to.  I hoped that it might bring somewhat of a 'community' aspect to the game at least.  Well, the guild was pretty much a crew of about 14... each solo-grinding with the GuildLeader saying how we needed to hurry because he wanted to do 'this or that'.  Forget getting help doing anything (1.. .if you ask for help, then you were perceived as a newb OR 2.. 'I did that solo, why can't you?'/'I did that a long time ago, forgot what/where/how that was'... then 'see 1'.).

     ...tell him about the twinkie.

Let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning's reading, it would be a Twinkie 35 feet long, weighing approximately 600 pounds.

    That's a big Twinkie.

AOC forums are worse then SWG when NGE was hitting.

Funcom treats customers worse then SOE ever did.

Maybe this is all a ploy by SOE to make themselves look better

Free vet month in SWG the same month AOC is crashing and burning, it's a conspiracy I TELL YOU!

In reality free vet month did cause me to return to SWG. I feel so dirty for subbing again, but NGE is much improved from when it started. I still like pre nge better but no other MMO has ever really replaced SWG.

Another SWG vet coming out of the closet. I am having fun reconnecting with old friends I havn't talked to in a few years. I actually have seen small droves of vet Elder Jedi logging in saying the same thing I am.

Can this be Return of the Jedi in SWG?

Maybe, maybe not, but it will atleast hold me over till Bioware takes the MMO scene by force (pun intended)

well, if it is.... then its working. I have a higher opinion of SoE than I did a year ago

SoE also offered one month vet resub for free on Vanguard too.

Probably a smart decision on their part.

    Same with everquest 2.

I do stress the NGE engine runs so much better then I remember it when I left shortly after NGE was implimented. There is tons of things to do now also.

My Jedi is far from a alpha class now, but I think I am over that. Need to treat it as a different game in that sense.

Even the community seems very mature although I am on Gorath. Not one of the most populated of the servers.

just to address the adult content part---- you must not have played past level 3---- cutting peoples heads off, slicing thier throats open and blood spewing out, putting an axe in thier forehead while they lay on the ground then stomping thier chest to pull it out while blood splatters your screen, cutting someones head off and placing it on a stick, would count as gore in my book-- there also were a few tits here and there---the story line can also get a lil mature if you followed that at all-----its definitly not a game i want my 11 yr old playing----the only thing i saw i would say was MATURE were the tits------- the gore was a lil gorey but nothing a teenager couldnt handle

Not sure when you started playing but my guild still has over 600 active members with 50-100 on at any given time--- i saw lots of people playing-- some zones would have 15-20 instances packed with people--- lately things have slowed a lil with the higher level  zones and harvesting zones getting the most attention---but its defintily not the deserted wasteland you make it out to be

The game also has really nice graphics especially when comparing it to other current mmos out.

I really wonder if the game you played was AOC,i played from beta and still play alltho i have cancelled my account and it will be closed in bout 3 weeks--  and i dont see anything your describing in-game at all.

Does this game have flaws ? YES and lots of em--Is this game lacking tons of content? YES-----

The adventure to 80 to me was kinda fun-- once you get there the game dies quick--would i do it again NO-did i get my moneys worth for 3 months - i feel i did--------------- would i pay to play it again  NO

I'm waiting for their forum servers to "go down" for maintainance and never come back up, to hide all the bad PR they have there.  They can't delete the threads fast enough....and they diserve it, the Nobs!

Failcom cannot fix it. WAR is coming soon and nobody will play it.

After today's server debacle, I think the pressure is going to be on Funcom management to explain how the hell a product with so much promise fell flat and died so quickly.

Let's see in the days to come what happens

The only thing worse than the official forums is these ones. Basically a cesspool of haters with nothing better to do than hang around the forums of a game they don't like. Are you guys so fucen bored you have nothing better to do? Heck the OP even changed his forum pic to a 'failcom' logo. Wow....if I don't like a game I just move on, not make it a pet project to badmouth it.

No wonder your posts get deleted, here they're nothing but hyperbole and melodrama; and impossible to take seriously considering how many people are still enjoying the game.

Sure it has its issues. Definitely.....but these 'sky is falling' posts are a total joke. The only think sadder than a "failing" Age of Conan is all the tards who supposedly don't like it but stalk the forums like a pedo bear outside a school.

Move on? Funcom has pulled some real stunts, lets hope developers in the future keep this debacle fresh in their minds. We dont need anymore debacles like this in the genre.

As it has been said over there....this is the "true endgame" for AoC!!

  • ArthousesigArthousesig Member Posts: 305

I think you should start looking at the EU forums now...

It's not moving, 2 or 3 people are posting, the fanboys are quiet, the whiners seem gone.

When something as funny as the "train wreck" AOC forum dies... then you have to wonder how stone cold dead the game is.

  • AldwinAldwin Member Posts: 92

    Sheez OP, "AOC is dead"?

It may be dead to you because you quit, but that doesn't make it dead to those who are still enjoying the game.

People's expectations are too high; not to mention that many don't seem to have any patience.

How long as AoC been out?

Close to 3 months now and it's worse then it started.

The easiest way to lose an argument is to use hyperbole.

The OP is the most articulate and intelligent poster I have ever encountered. I hope his writings are forever imprinted on the memory of Humanity.

    See?

Oh, and Funcom sucks, but I don't think AoC is that bad... Too bad I refuse to play it because of the former.

    Okay, three months.

Thats 90 days. All MMORPGs have their growing pains, 3 months is nothing.

You can't look at WoW and just say "I want my game to be that polished out of the gate." I've seen plenty of threads where folks talked about how bad WoW was during its first year.

I can totally understand that there are people who don't like AoC. But posting another  thread about the "End" of a major MMORPG after only 3 months seems excessive.

    No.

The only people talking about how bad WoW was during its first year are the ones who lack the intellectual capacity to understand the difference between "server issues due to massive unexpected popularity" and "extremely buggy, unpolished client". Coincidentally, these are the same people who are in denial of the sad state AoC is currently in.

WoW's server issues were all fixed within 3 months, Blizzard gave out tons of free time and apologized a lot. LoTRO had much more added in content in 3 months. Fuck, even Vanguard was doing better once SOE got its hands on it (maybe not 3 months, closer to 4?)

3 months is a lot of time to where they haven't really fixed A SINGLE FUCKING IMPORTANT THING. I don't give a shit if these mobs are naked now or if this guy's spelling was corrected. The PvP patch or PvP levels that were supposed to be IN LAUNCH are still not here. The memory leak which they've claimed to "cure" 3 times now IS WORSE THEN EVER. Stats, while they kinda-sorta work, are still fucking useless. Sieges still lag the fuck out of people, Raid content is still bugged beyond belief and you really can not raid past T1 (if that) without encountering bugs in which they make the raid near impossible.

    *inhales deeply*

They still have not added in any content from levels 50-80. The only thing they did was update Black Castle (who gives a fuck about a lvl 30 place) and updated the Pyramid (lvl 30, who cares?). They have no clue about class balance, as the Dark Templars are still fucking useless and the one shoting is extreme. Even the most simple of issues to fix (a loot table issue in which players could get upwards of 4-5 epics an hour) took Funcom 3 days to hotfix, allowing players to destroy the already shattered economy with cheap epics.

Mounted combat is a buggy piece of shit that is not near what they hyped, in fact if you try and fight on your mount you're a retard because you actually gimp yourself for doing it.

And aside from all of this there are still numerous graphical issues which I am amazed got past the alpha of the game.

Oh, and DX10 which was supposed to be in game at launch is still not in game and IIRC is slated for a 2009 release. They actually had the balls to put on the back of the game "Optimized for DX10" when they are clearly lying.

And speaking of that, the minimum/recommended specs are bull.

That is all that is wrong with the game and what they have not fixed. Even the female attack speed they ended up making a worse mess of by making males attack slower, nerfing it instead of just fixing the problem.

Funcom has had plenty of time and the only thing they can do is put out lowbie content. You know why? Because guess what reviewers are going to play first!

Phew, that was a hell of a rant. :D
