It is still early on what this Bioware game will be like as well, which will most likly be Cartoony and WoW like since the new movie and future TV series is Cartoony.I agree with you on the Force Unleashed this will be very interesting to see how it turns out,but keep in mind a console game is nothing compared to a mmorpg so even if it turns out awesome it will be hard for me to give much credit to Julio.

BioWare has made several games that have been both commercially successful, and critically acclaimed.  BioWare made both Baldur's Gate games (an an expansion for each), Neverwinter Nights (and a few expansions), Jade Empire (it won several awards), KotOR, and Mass Effect.  So far, the folks at BioWare have yet to make promises that they haven't kept.  They have a strong record of making good games.

Your statement on Blizzard is probably why they have the "largest MMO in history".

Not that I thought WoW was a great game, I couldn't make it thru the 30 days that came with the box.  I guess I'm too old to play games with elves in them.  But, when I downloaded the patches, it was up to 2.something and downloaded in minutes.  SWG patches take longer than the game to download.  That's the amount of CHANGES that each gaming company brings to the table.  WoW adds CONTENT, levels, etc, via expansions.  SWG is constantly CHANGEING existing code.

WoW is at least "stable".  Players can go back to help a new player and do the exact same things they did before.  I tried to help new players in SWG and was constantly apoligising, saying "sorry, forgot they CHANGED that".

There is no consistancy in SWG.  What you have accomplished in the game may not be there tomorrow.  Blizzard has not made that mistake and the subs numbers, for each, show why consistancy is required.

Roll back the SWG to day 1.. yes a complete roll back, not just to before the NGE, not just before CU.. back to day 1.. and give us everything back the exact way it was. Hand the game over to a decent team that will dedicate themselves to bug fixes (there were a ton of bugs on launch) and fixing some of the graphical problems/updating the graphics slightly to make things more smooth and blend better.. since it has been so long since our game was taken. And plan to implement a better city management process where the mayor could zone things as commercial, residential, industrial, public and etc.. creating roads and paved areas to make player citys look like true citys not just houses thrown together.

And YES if these things happened tommorrow I would sign back on tmr, I would create my rodian anew and I would pay them for this game every month for the rest of my life, guarenteed, whether I played or not.. out of sheer thankfullness that my favorite IP was being respected, loved, and made enjoyable again.

I'd love to go back, but they need to rollback the mechanics to pre-CU first.

BioWare made the CRPG that revived the CRPG genre (Baldur's Gate), the sequel, and then Neverwinter Nights (which was initially more of a toolset than a game).  They have a very good track record as far as games (both PC and Console) go.  BioWare also hired several folks who had MMO experience (mainly former SWG devs, from before the game was completely screwed up) and moved the guy who was in charge of the first KotOR game to Austin to head up the MMO team.

Their MMO isn't going to be anything like pre-CU SWG.  It'l be much closer to the WoW treadmil model.  I personally don't have the outright hatred of the WoW model that several of the posters here do.  The main reason I don't like the current version of SWG isn't because it was changed to be more like WoW (the unethical manner in which it was done, and the fact that the folks at SOE are outright hostile towards their customers are the main reason I won't touch a product that SOE makes money from), but because it isn't any fun to play.  I honestly think EQ2 is the second best WoW knock off at the moment (LotRO is better), but I wouldn't reccomend any play it due to the afore mentioned lack of ethics and hostility from SOE.

I doubt BioWare's MMO will have the longevity that UO and SWG did for me, but from BioWare's previous track record, I expect I will enjoy it for the limited time I play it.  This all assumes they don't make any major development decisions that will make the game not worth my time (such as the implementation of Punkbuster in WAR, I won't intentionally install spyware on my computer, especially one as intrusive as Punkbuster).

I'm taking it that you're relatively new to PC gaming, since anyone playing PC games since the 90s knows Bioware has made a slew of good games over its history.

    http://www.bioware.com/games/

PC game: Baldur's Gate (and related expansion) - This game's entrance in the late 90s was *huge*.  It put Bioware on the map as a good dev team.

PC game: Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn (and 2 related expansions)

    PC game: Neverwinter Nights

PC / Console game: Jade Empire (mostly for consoles until recently)

PC / Console game: Mass Effect (mostly for consoles until recently)

These titles are the "big name" ones for Bioware.  Well liked, well reviewed.

They may have very little MMO experience, but so did Blizzard before WoW came out, and it currently is their *only* MMO experience.

Also, KotOR 2 was NOT done by Bioware.  It was done by Obsidian Entertainment

    I have two requisites:

You make a couple of good points here. But it wouldn't really be enough for me. I kept on playing through all the changes and all the BS up untill about 6 months ago, when I realized that the game was never going to get better.

As a game, SWG fails to deliver fun. Don't get me wrong, someparts of the game are still fairly entertaining. But the vast majority of the game continues to be incredibly grindy, monotonous, and booring.

I think Tman makes some excellent points.  Both issues would also address promises that were made by SOE, but remain unfulfilled.  Certain bugs were promised fixes, and others just need to be fixed, whether fixes were promised or not.  Take for example falling through the map on Kashyyk and being shot through walls without the ability to return fire.  These are serious bugs.  If SOE can't fix them, they should just say so, apologize for the problem, and reduce the fee to play the game accordingly.  Stringing people along with unfulfilled promises, or ignoring issues is unacceptable in my view.

Similarly, Smed promised to fast-track server mergers to address the low populations.  If this is a desirable solution to the majority of current players, they should follow through.  If, however, another solution is more desirable by the majority of current players, they should do that.  As it is, they do very little, if anything to address this important issue, despite promises from the CEO to take action.  This is also unacceptable.

Tman's points very clearly point to ongoing problems and suggest helpful solutions.  The big question is, will SOE listen?  History suggests that they won't, but I like to be open to surprises.  If they address these issues, I would certainly recognize the effort, and I think other players would as well.  It would be a very important step in a consumer-friendly direction.
