One thing I noticed about mmorpg.com is it's full of fanbois and haters that you can't trust, even the warhammer alliance website is full of threads of people pointing out the many flaws of the game, yet mmorpg.com everything is apparently all roses and you'll be flamed if you say otherwise.
Now WAR isn't a horrible game but it has too many flaws tor ecommend and it feels very much like a clone of everyother mmorpg out there. It's very clear to see what they looked at when making this game and thats WOW. No WOW didn't invent the genre but it perfected all the mechanics and became popular because it was sooo easy to get into. So if you've played WOW then you'll know esactly how WAR plays because they play pretty much the same. The problem with this though is WOW is more polished and has far more content to play through. So you ask the question "why am I playing WAR?" and to me I don't know why you'd choose WAR atm.
Theres tons of bugs in the game and yeah the game is just about to be released but when you launch a buggy half assed game and try to compete with another mmorpg thats soooo polished and complete then I don't see how you can win. I have lots of CTD constantly and they're happening to everyone, I don't use Vista but all the people using XP atleast are having problems. Theres lots of getting stuck on objects in the world and it's very annoying using /stuck which then makes you log out.
The graphics are lacking, I mean the textures are just sooo bland and horrible and just really low detailed right now. You can see all the pointy bits in objects and on the ground because the game has sucha small polygon count. Theres no real atmosphere in the game too and for me I want the art style to look like the CG trailers because that's badass and instead we get a bland ugly looking WOW.
The combat in the game is slow and sluggish and just not fun at all to use. I can't find a class i'm having fun with because they're all boringgggggggggggg. I play WOW and they're all really fun and different to play but then I get into WAR and alot of the classes just play the same. The only difference between most of the tanks is the skills have a different name, but they all do the same thing just mixed around differently.
The PVE is soooooooo easy I mean for most the game it's the average boring "kill 5 of these" and come back quests that you can run into and not have a fear of dying because you can own like 10 mobs at a time and if you're about to die then you just run away easily and even if you do die then theres no death penatly. If you want PVE then don't play this game because it has nothing to offer you anywhere near the competition of other mmorpgs and public quests wont be enough to keep you playing cause ocne you've done one, then you've done them all.
The PVP which is meant to be the highlight of the game just ends up being very crap for me because the combat system and the unfun classes just ruin all fun of combat. Also collision detection is very annoying and constantly gets in the way, you'll often walk into team mate sor get stuck ina crowded keep or have some twats block you way up the stairs. The battleground type things are just like AB in WOW and they get boring very fast and so do keeps. Imagine Planetside and capturing the same bse over and over again.......... well in WAR it's like Planetside but without fun combat and lots more bugs and ranged classes owning everything in mass PVP.
I know I'm going to get flamed but the game is tooo easy, too linear and too boring. I've played this mmorpg lots of times before and I just want something new and not the same old same old buggy level/class based mmorpg. If you want to understand how linear the game is then look at the world map because you follow a set path from levels 1 - 40 all the way through like a fucking big long road.
Please don't believe the hype it's just another WOW that we all got bored of years ago.

I like war but I am not gonna flame you.
You have valid points and concerns. But we cant judge a newly released game based on "the bugs". Im not even flaming AoC because of that.
I have faith in that the bugs and slow combat will be fixed eventually and the game will become more fun in say 6 months to a year.
I didnt find WoW very fun at release at all to be honest. Talk about imbalance there. But WoW became much more fun when I rejoined after 1.5 years of the release.
WAR has great features and you need to give it some time. All the classes and cities arent in yet. No one knows the full potential. It is just going to be release. What people need to do is to look for the potential and have a litlle patience and faith that the game will come along nicely as time goes by.
Hehe, sorry have to laugh, you say at the start of your post that WAR isnt a horrible game but then go on for 7 paragraphs why it is indeed horrible,I mean after all the bad things you said you couldnt honestly say the game was ok.
Sorry but I have read ALOT of reviews and I will shift through the fanboi and the haters as the truth normally lies somewhere in the middle and your post will go on the haters pile.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

I won't flame, but how about being a bit more specific? I mean, it doesn't really tell anyone anything when you say "man it's boring, and then this and this is boring, and it's so boring, I think the game is really boring, don't get the game its main flaw is that it's boring!"
That's all subjective. Any specific examples of design flaws? Any class mechanics that are designed in such a way that they cancel each other out and leave the class feeling kinda broken? Advertised features missing or bugged? You did mention CTD so that's client instability, definitely a good point there.
Really, it just sounds like the game didn't appeal to you. That's perfectly fine, but there's very little there that seems like it could objectively viewed by anyone as an inherent problem with the game.
I'm getting the feeling that you've barely played the game. I don't want to sound rude, but (at least as it appears) try getting a bit more of a feel for the game. It's still in beta (though very close to release, yay!), and there are going to be tweaks up until release. You also see to be coming at this from a PvE'rs perspective, which... Probably isn't the best way to come at this game... :
EDIT: I didn't mean to come across as WAR having no PvE content. It has loads of it. It's just that, towards higher levels, RvR will be the focus. Not the industry standard
You do have some valid points.
Will be hard for the fan's of the IP to see any of this.
I'm going to give the game a shot because I think its going to be the best of the next gen mmo's, but I will be pissed if it is just a straight road from start to max. Dungeon siege anyone?
So this game is WoW 2.0 with little to no PvE content? LOL
I guess I'll reserve my judgement for the retail version.... if I decide to ever play World of Warhammer, that is.
@OP
Its always like that on MMORPG.COM forums before the game is release 90% of posts are all from fans and fanbois after the game is released most of the same posters become true haters and trolls.
Even now if you go and check all those guys with FailCom avatar you can see how the aoc was 2nd coming for them a month after it you see what happend.
I really hope this NDA lift will prevent all those overhyped fans to think twice before buy so they dont get "funcomed" by omg BUG's. LAG and some missing features.
p.s. Whoever really wanna check beta impressions should visit: http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=109
You can find the good and bad ones there so you can form your own opinion, most likely the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Futilez[Do You Have What It Takes ?]
1st let me say that i find war a great game but i agree to some of the points as well
having played most of the low mid and high level templates in beta its a bit dissapointing for me how the actual combat and skills are layed out. dont get me wrong, they are interesting and good but they are also pretty mainstream.
with all the innovative power the devolpers have shown in almost all other sapects of the game (crafting, guilds, public quest) even if you didnt play beta and just saw the podcasts you see they really, really have innovative power and vision.
yet the key element "killing stuff" feels far to close to wow to me.
even if your happy with a "select command and wait for execution" (wich as aoc player im not) you still might feel dissapointed with the diversity and options that the skills offer you.
it might be good to appeal to the wow crowd and say "hey this is wow for pvpers" but for me a game so centered around pvp should have a ton of crazy pvp effects.
what i saw is "use this skill do do xxx damage", "use that skill to do dot" ...
what i expected was "do a whirlwind to scatter your enemies around you", "do cloud of darkness to obscure a part of the battlefield". i mean hey the ip is warhammer with thousands of tactical descisions and battlefield effects.
its probably still a ton of fun to pvp there and all but it doesnt come close to my vision of the perfect pvp game where choice of the right skill at the right time/ split second and how to counter an enemy attack matters over level and gear...

Interesting. The the complaints by the detractors and the supporting arguments by the apologists for the complaints all sound so familiar to me. Where have I heard this before?
I remember, it was when AOC was about to release. Let's hope WAR is better off than that game.
But, just like with AOC, I'll reserve judgment until I've had a chance to play the game myself.
But this time around, I think I might wait until after the first month of release and see how well people like the game when it comes time to pay up.

so far this game looks to be everything I expected. great gameplay, piss poor graphics, somewhat cookie cutter classes, easy PvE, and hardcore PvP.
I'd like to konw more about the bugs present so far. Nothing could possibly be as buggy as Age of Conan. AOC literally hindered me from playing the game. No other MMO had bugs that did that. they were just minor annoyances.
Personally I based my choice to buy the game off my actual experiences for the past 8 months with the game. I find most negative reviews to be either obscenely skewed and jaded or just completely made up. There are some valid complaints about the game and I have participated in those (side balance and crafting). However everything else is really in a great state compared to all other mmos out there. The game is good at what it set out to be and succeeds where it counts: it is fun, it is fast, it is accessible, and it has some good innovations without completely overhauling a proven formula.
In terms of reviews, I always like to check posting history of people who post them first, to get some real insight on why they think the way they do. You find a whole lot more about their opinions on the game based on their post history than based on the post itself, which is kind of sad.
For example, if a person has been bad mouthing the game for a long while before nda was dropped, its no surprise they would be bad mouthing it now as they are essentially just been carrying a huge chip on their shoulder for months. They aren't going to base their thoughts on how the game really is, they are going to base it on a grudge they have been carrying. So its really kind of useless for representing the state of the game.
If its not due to a chip on their shoulder, its usually due to false expectations of what the game is supposed to be. Some people go into it looking for features that were never once advertised, that no one ever said would be in, actually that the devs said specifically 'we aren't going to do that'. Things like harsh death penalties, detailed character creation, next gen graphics, ffa, etc. We have known from the start what kind of game Mythic was aiming for with WAR. And while some people may not prefer the type of features that WAR offers due to personally preference and playstyle, for what it sets out to do it does it successfully.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
I remember a lot of people here saying
"Wait until NDA drop,s you'll see how good it is "
Now that it did, I read 15 reviews and what I see is a game released 6 months too early to beat the WOW expansion. Don't get me wrong, the game has some truly nice aspects to it which appeal a lot to me. But it is far from what fanboys keep trying to say it is. It could be one day, if it manages to be successful enough to last 2 years, but as of now it seems to be very incomplete from the concensus of the reviews.
It kind of reminds me of AC1, which is good thing for me since it's one of the 2 only mmos I've really played. Tons of potential, nice amount of fun for 2-3 months but would feel empty afterwards. I was right to go to Wary Customer mode like I said in an earlier thread
I'll still buy it, 2-3 months is more than any other mmo released in the past 5 years offered me
So.
CDTs.
Getting stuck
Graphics
Sluggish combat
Are all things the devs are aware of. Lets see what they can fix before release.
Personally I don't have a problem with the combat. Try a shaman, smooth as a babies butt.
PvE combat easy - have you tried soloing a public quest yet? If yes, with something other than a warrior priest?
Nicely said!!
The only issue I'm having is in some areas I get many CTDs (crash to desktop) They still have about a month, lets hope they can fix it.
combat does feel slugish with some classes. You hit a skill, hit another and get a message, saying it's not ready yet, it doesn't just queue it up. It may for some classes I'm not sure. but many people in the beta forums have posted about this, I'm sure it's a top priority issue.
that's about it. Some people have graphics or animation issue, I don't.
OMG how many times will we have to read that on these forums ? There has been a long beta period for this game and it better darn well works as intended.
Hey let me do the math for you, a few bad post vs thousands of good posts... equals that many people playing are satisfied, unfortunately you seem a little sour and WAR is not the game for you. One less QQ'er in game is a great thing in my book. Have fun playing WoW goodluck with faction pack I hope it is more next gen for you.

...I'm in your panties
I am going to flame the OP. He is a fanboy of WoW or a hater of WAR however you wanna look at it. Most of you know I'm a fanboy of WAR but I am more than willing to talk about its faults. I'm tired of posting on other forums so if you have questions or concerns pm me and I will be as honest as I can be.
To the OP though. You say your not a hater or fanboy of WAR but your post reaks of hate. Not only is it clear you havent been around for a single MMO launch but most of your post is flat out lies or your opinion trying to pass it off as truth. For one, the biggest glaring point was calling the classes boring/dull. PLEASE. The classes in WAR as some of the most fun classes I have ever seen in an MMO (this is of course my opinion, but seems to be the opinion of nearly everyone I talked to in general chat in the last week). Class mechanics are new and keep you on your toes.
Anyway. If you have some questions that just dont seem to be getting awnsered PM me. I wont be posting much else on these forums because the OP did make a valid point. These forums are full of both haters and fanboys talking up or down about the game and the truth is somewhere in the middle. The game has flaws and I have no problem discussing thoes. The game also has some verry good selling points and I would be more than willing to duscuss thoes to anyone interested though PM but not here where every post is going to turn into a flame war and the topic gets lost after a couple posts.
Peoples expectations are to high ,you cant compare a game that hasnt even reached OB status to one that has been released for 4 years.
Crying about the graphics makes me laugh the most though, all games purposely disable the graphics to allow for even feedback from the testers.
First game I ever tested was Meridian 59 go compare that to WoW
Graphics are nice but its not why I play games, longevity is based on gameplay and content period and Mythic has made a solid foundation for future expansions, and thats all I ever ask from developers,to have foresight and have their true endgame in mind.
Stick to the plan man.
OP: some valid points but flawored alot by your preference as others have said!
I wouldn't call it valid to say there is toons of bug in the game still. There are bugs but most are some coming with the major patches and most are gone before the next major one! i think the xp users issue is one of them. I find the Mythic is doing a really good job improving the game.
About grafics it has been complained alot about , but did you write about how much it has improved the last month! Fair enough that you don't like it but it has improved alot ! And i am still just seing the game on the setting the beta dictate! Could be alot better at release! But fair enough graffics is not where i rate the game highest
it valid to say that combat have been lacking , most beta testers agree. But is it still lacking , did you get the experience of the last patch that improved combat alot! Or did that experience disapear in bugs and sever chrashes that came with it! Thats one thing i look alot after in negative reviews , are the based on months of frustration or do they have the last improvements with them!
I could write a negative review based on most of my combat experience on beta , but it wouldn't be up to date. I could also have stayed in the unstable pairing (at our server)for the last week and got even worse experience, but i went to another pairing and experience so much improvement , with alot still to be done as Mythic are well aware of and are not trying to hide!
its valid to say that pve is to easy , but facts are wrong when you state there is no death penalty, there is! I find the tome and pq's a big improvement to PvE and actual find thesse very innovative , and i am quite sure that they set standards for mmo for years to come.
I really wonder why you call the classes not fun as they have a lot more variation and individual feel imho than WOWs. And they are repeatly being worked on, being changed to better fit the role they are designed for! And still is. And i have found that mythic again listen and have come up with something that adress the major issues.
i find that the the things of most conserns is actual adressed by Mark jacobs where he state the 3 reasons while the NDA lift was delayed. And that mythic at this stage dare to agree with beta testers about where the game needs work is a good sign.
And to the OP if you are trying to figured out why you are getting so many flames.
It's because of your thread title, "This game isn't as good as everyones saying"
It should have been, "This game isn't as good as everyones saying in my opinion"
Well if what he says is true it sounds alot like HGL beta which was filled with issues. People would CTD alot, people getting stuck everywhere until they decided to implement the /stuck command, problems with performance on Vista and XP was an issue. Peopel are saying that warrior priest and bright wizard are overpowering at the moment as well. I saw some of the live feed videos , the pvp looked interesting but all I saw was zerg vs zerg fights, nothing majorly strategic at all. Graphics looked liked WOW's and in some cases WOW's(4-5 year old game) looked alot better. Though hey this is stil beta and they still have time to fix things but perhaps there won't be enough time to fix the major issues. Noone knows how it is going to turn out at the end of beta though.
lol ffs if that was true then everybody and their lil sister would be coming on the boards and crying about it.
I dont think he has been flamed that bad.
I have found the thread to be very helpful and constructive (with an occassional flame.) Had something like this been posted in the AoC forums, there wouls have been 50 posts telling him he is an idiot and togo back to WoW.
Thanks for the info everyone, keep it coming.
