All I did in this thread was ask what the Death Penatly was, someone came along and answered me and I stated that I would passing on this game as would gamers like myself... were did I call anyone that disagrees with me a carebare? Were did I say WAR was a shitty game? Show me cause I never typed it.
If you are at all any representation of the community that is going to play WAR I am GLAD i am passing on this game.
That's all I want to hear from you complainers, that you are not going to play. So why continue to post here? It's basically like your a hobo who has been given a nice home but it's full of fatties and you dont like it, but you still continue to eat there? Why? We don't want you there because you mocked us.
But to get to the real point. We don't want you in our game anyways...piss off

What if those players find harsh death penalties detract from their enjoyment of the game?
Should harsh death penalties be imposed because you prefer that style of play in a game?
One more game to avoid like the plague. no risk = bad game
And another good example of the people I don't want to be playing this game with anyway. Your name is "PoopyStuff?" Uhm....so how old are you? Nevermind....no need to answer.
When....oh when....will they just make adult-only games or at the very LEAST, adult-only servers? And then...idk....make you send in a copy of your birth certificate and driver's license for PROOF instead of just requiring a simple credit card that any hoodlum can steal from Mommy or Daddy's purse or billfold?
As far as "death" in a game goes, and penalties for said "death".....I prefer the developers keep reality OUT of my fantasy game, thank you very much. If you're an adult....there are plenty of "penalties", death, and just all around CRAP to deal with in real life. WTH is wrong with LESS "realism" in games? O.o
But in all truthfulness....
I don't personally care what people like in their games, because like I already posted....
If you like a game, pay for it, (or get Mommy and Daddy to pay for it..../sigh), and PLAY it. If you don't like it....then play something else. If you can't find a game you like, then maybe it's not the games that are the problem? Maybe you just have "preferences" that are very very unusual and no developer has wanted to take the risk on making a game JUST for such a small market? SO.....finish school, go to university, learn to MAKE games....and GO MAKE THE GAME OF YOUR DREAMS!!! That way, the gaming hobbyists have even MORE choices of what to play, YOU get the game you want, and it's a win-win situation for the gaming world!

You are so right. I deal with enough stress and crap in real life. The last thing I want to do is play a game that adds to it.
I think all the "hardcore" people wanting death penalties is kinda funny. I see where they're coming from though. Some games forced you into being "good" and their ego got inflated. Now they don't have as much reason to be "good" and rub it in people's faces liek an @$$hat and they feel cheated. I get it I really do... but that dosn't make it right. All that means if you are truely "good" you'll be on top of people for a longer period of time and more frequently. If you're not good enough to keep being on top of them then you're not as hardcore as you thought. /pointmanual
So if thats that big of a deal to you and you can't cope, don't play. More zergers for my guild of "good" people to farm and have all the fun. I'm sure there are going to be other "good" guilds that'll man up and fight us but til then, let the fun begin imo.
This MMORPG is not geared to those who want to feel the sting everytime they die... that is what some other games will do.
If they could expect a continuous input of new players to replace the ones that die, then they would probably allow a "one life to live" ruleset, or harsh death penalties... but since that will not be happening, they make do with what they got.
Is it real? No.
Does it immerse you into the world? No.
Will it make the game more fun? Yes.
The "sting" comes from the leaderboards, the statues, the titles like: The victim, The Routed, Dwarf Slayer, The lucky... These things inform people whether or not they are doing well, this is the punishment.
It isn't what you are looking for...
it doesn't operate the way you think it should...
then the game is not for you.
Something will come out that matches what you want eventually.

Again thats fine, If you look at the start of this post, you will see me ask what the Death Penatly is. After reading the answer, I simply said I will pass on this game and any gamers like myself that enjoy risk while playing an MMO.
Then all hell broke lose and I was called an elitist asshole because of my opinion which prompted me to return the name calling. It does not make it right but thats all that happened.
I asked a simple question and the WAR fans attacked my opinion. I never said WAR was going to suck or that it would not be fun. I simply said that it would not be enjoyable to me. In my opinion a game that does not have a good Death Penatly is shallow, it lacks a soul. I want to be on my toes while exploring new lands. Without that fear elemet to me a game lacks a soul. Now is WAR shallow? No idea I never played it but based on the lack of DP, to me its shallow.... Hope you can understand that... I am simply posting my opinion and you all take it as an Attack on your Game.
There are games coming out that will have a DP that I like and I will play them. Just like there will be games that come out that you will skip because your playing WAR. Lets face it their are people still playing AoC. Everyone will find the game they want, its just a matter of time.
What I don't understand is why you attack me because I dont agree with Mythics choice for a DP?
To the OP: The game's first and foremost goal is War. Continuous war.
Total war.
Always war. A harsh death penalty works against that. This MMORPG is not geared to those who want to feel the sting everytime they die... that is what some other games will do. See this is the response that should have been on page 1. I already stated I would be passing on tis one and then I posted my reason behind it, it was not an attack on WAR or anyone that wants to play it, it was my opinion on why the game was not for me and gamers like me. I dont like playing a game with no risk, I am glad that the gaming community (Lets hope) finally gets a finished great game on release, we all know we earned it with the crap we played before.... but for me it doesn't fit my check list.

I would highly suggest you look into something like Darkfall, if its even still in production, or runescape. Those are the only 2 games I'm aware of that makes you lose pretty much everything when you die.
I'm not really into it, but you strike me as a person who would love it.
I wonder how hard it is to create a system where players can scale their own risk/reward setting. If you crank the setting on your character as Fanatic you are set back a great deal if you die ( longer respawn, item degradation, stat debuff and exp loss), If you tone yourself to Cautious, you have the current setting of WAR as a penalty. Rewards for Fanatic would be an increased loot table roll and influence/ reknown bonuses for RvR kills, (to a lesser extent for healers). Is that possible for todays games? Would you play WAR if they had such a system?
Brilliant! Good out of the box thinking. The more risk you take, the more bonus you get.
this is the best idea ive ever heard and should be implemented asap!
EvEs not about griefing, it's about meaningful PvP and PREVENTING random ganking (which works pretty well, people think thrice before they attack you).
Still, a game like WAR with a heavy RvR aspect does not need death penalty to have meaningful PvP. Period.
One thing I noticed a number of times (I was running Scenarios as fast as I could queue up) was that occasionally you could pull a 'green item' (stats) off a player's corpse. Were those just random drops that the game 'generated' or were they non-bound items folks were carrying? Anyone know? I died a few times but didn't note any lost items. That said, I never carried to many non-bound items around with me.
(I did find it highly amusing to use the scavenging skill on players' dead bodies and pull 'Blood Engorged Leeches' and whatnot out of the Chaos players I was helping to kill/defend against!)
How is losing your capital city for a death penalty? If you lose the battle you lose your objective, keep, city, and the buffs, extra quests, instances, and so on that go with them..
Also in reverse thnking you get rewarded alot for rvr with abilities, tactics, morales, gear, consumables and maybe even a statue of yourself in the main city :O

If you lose the war ..meaning the enemy invaded your capital city and managed to kill it's leaders and then sacked it then your city will lose it's rank... losing ranks means a lot of things... you lose some player facilities like vendors, quest npcs, and access to dungeons in the city. However, not everything is lost .. all the basic necessities are still accessible such as skill trainers and some basic merchants and you have to rebuild the city ranks. Rebuilding city ranks is a collaborative efforts from ALL players in the faction, it's not something 1 person or even 1 guild can do by themselves. Doing good in scenarios, in world pvp, doing city quest, completing dungeons, etc. all contribute to city growth.
In WAR Wounds is HP, there is no base plus wounds.
So the death penalty is rough enough thank you.
Die 5 times and your 6000HP tank is down to 3000HP. Think you can beat the things that killed you when you had 6K HP with 3K? Dieing once isn't huge but when it stacks to force you to take a bit of a break.
it's funny when people point on everquest & perma death.. maby some people dont remember what some people did because there character permanently died, or what a person did to his friend because of a virtual sword in the past? there is hopefully a reason why games that are suppost to be a hobby, don't have that stuff..
Whats funny is people like you who never played EQ1... Everquest never had Perma death.
Just because a few nut jobs did some stupid things in know way reflexs upon the rest of the player base.
im 100% sure that i have played EQ1 longer than you, read again... everquest & perma death is 2 separate words, if you connected them togother, thats your problem

Well I am sure you did not play EQ1 longer then me, and read again your statement, the rest of your sentence talk's about perma death which would lead anyone to think you said EQ1 had Perma death. Next time break them up into different paragraphs when talking about two different things.

Remember when Star wars galaxies first released Jedi? That was hardcore as hell. If you die your char gets deleted and you have to remake the Jedi again.
After about a month though I think over 95% of the people complained so much they removed the perma death and replaced it with a nice light penalty. Then people complained more so they made a mission so everyone could be a jedi eventually. Then people complained it took to long to get a Jedi so they remade the game completely so that you could start as a jedi.
Then the game died.
I hope people learn from the past before you see this happen to more future games
The game died because of a myriad of reasons, it was not only the Jedi. It's just an archetypical example of how a watered down concept can destroy an initially coherent concept.
The complete revamp of about every game mechanic in SWG was due to reasons still unknown. Perhaps the sub numbers were not satisfactory, perhaps someone in charge thought the game was too "open", nobody knows really. But it's NOT only the Jedi and NOT because enough people whined... SWG game was never perfect to start with, but instead of getting better, it got worse...

I dug into it for a few years and came to the conclusion that SOE hates money and hates its customers. Thats why they did the CU against the will of 90% of the comunity. lol I remember signing the 15 000 signature petition and still it went through.
Ah well. From around 20k people one week to less then 5k the next. Someone at SOE got fired over that one.

Too bad for me. Enjoy WAR.
I would highly suggest you look into something like Darkfall, if its even still in production, or runescape. Those are the only 2 games I'm aware of that makes you lose pretty much everything when you die.
I'm not really into it, but you strike me as a person who would love it.
There is risk for the team, but not you.
Being short one player for a few minutes hurts. You can see this the most in scenarios.
Trust me, you don't want 5 out of 5 of your healers getting killed.
There is team risk.
You die - your team is down a man and doesn't do as well.
Team doesn't do well, they don't take objectives.
They don't take objectives they don't unlock end game content.
Brilliant! Good out of the box thinking. The more risk you take, the more bonus you get.
this is the best idea ive ever heard and should be implemented asap!
Oh here we go...
The damn "Death needs to mean something" crowd.
I was waiting for you guys to chime in.
This game isn't Eve, UO or L2 you dont lose gear, XP or anything in this game when you die.
Now please go away and wait for a game that lets you grief players.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
Want to play: Lego Universe

WAR PVP doesn't suit a harsh death penalty because you'll be dying ALOT trying to get your objective.
