Shees... will we start discussing in WAR's forum how long DF was in development?  Really?  I mean... wasnt it enough discussion over all the internet forums already?  That we have to discuss it here?

Both games will be GREAT.  Both games almost dont compete with each others.  They are featured different and will attract different players.  Only a some part of the PvP ones will have to decide between the two and maybe they will play both.

What is wrong with that, this "thread" was deticated to DF even though its in WARs forum, And besides, "Took em 8 years to come out with that? Pathetic" Is begging for correction, i have no doubt both will be great either, I am currently beta'ing WAR, its awsome, on the same hand i will probly beta DF

Those new Darkfall videos claim the game would be out in 2008.

They only just started taking beta-sign ups.     They're saying the beta is starting in Oct.

That gives them a whopping  2-3 months for a beta test with actual external testers.

Do the math.   We've seen in the past what happens when Developers try to push out MMORPGs while skimping on beta-testing.     DF fans should be screaming at Aventurine to push back the release date but instead they're just accepting it like they've accepted all the claims the Devs have ever made.

The warning signs have been there throughout this game's entire rocky development, this is just the latest (and biggest) one so far.

Until I've actually played darkfall, I'll reserve judgement.  Until that time how would I, or anyone else for that matter, know how good that game will be.  I have played WAR, and I find it fun.  So I can judge that game, but for me to speculate on how good or bad Darkfall will be, would be foolish.  /shrug

Good luck to those of you waiting for Darkfall, I hope you find the game you seek, but I feel you are truly reaching, when trying to compare it at this point to a nearly finished game.

I will have to see it to believe it the footage looks pretty much like WAR ala (CLIMAX) footage from 4 years ago before they closed shop the footage is still on YouTube for the old WAR. I will give them credit if they ever pull it off as it is a game I might like if they deliver everything, but the modeling they are using is pretty old from the look but it going to be hard to tell until people can play it.

    OMG who cares?

If you enjoy WAR, play WAR

If you enjoy WOW, play WOW

If you enjoy DFO, play DFO

Why the F*** do we keep having to compare one game to another.

    These threads are getting tiring

I saw pretty textures with poor environmental modeling and sub-par animation and FX.  Also that had better not be in-game music.  These are all things that can be corrected in time, and Darkfall may turn out to be a great game, but not in 2008.  This game is unfortunately a ways from release, though I will likely try it out when it nears completion.  If it can pull these issues together and deliver on the fronts that we can't glean from a video (sandbox freedom, immersion, balance, etc.), this game may do well.  Here's to hoping it does.

I will state then any of those games are good after I played them for a month after release. To often have a game felt promising but become a dissapointment after a few weeks. And Beta experience isn't enough to be sure about that, they might change after beta for the better or worse.

But it is pretty impressive that they are actually releasing a video of DF... What will be next? A new Duke Nuke'em video? But Im still not 100% sure that it will be released...

Sorry, callingit vaporware is not a argument anymore, It has its latest gameplay video out, and they are taking beta aps, + they have publisher so things are coming together. "Death of VAPORWARE" Just a simple fact.

This is the MMO industry. Stranger things have happened than a game with a beta schedule getting scrapped. Truth is, in spite of having found a publisher and -scheduling- a beta, Darkfall has a very, very long way to go. The primary reason we call it vaporware is that we fully expect it to fail to deliver on its promises. The reason for this is that the development time has extended as long as it has to accommodate a laundry list of industry-changing revolutions. Many of these revolutions, however, are not appealing to the majority of MMOers, making it very difficult to believe that a publisher would back the game in its promised form. If the devs compromise, Darkfall essentially does not exist. If not, it will be scrapped, or it will fail.

Edit: I'm not happy about the reality that a game like Darkfall would not succeed. I would love a game environment that brings back the open PvP of UO or Lineage II. Of course, each of those games had their faults, but I would expect a next-generation game to learn from those faults and improve upon them. However, full looting and open PvP is just not the direction MMO players want to see the industry go. And that, at the end of the day, is that.

    Isn't the October beta open?

Its like a bastard child cross between Might and Magic IV and Shadowbane Vs Rainbow and a Saturday morning Cartoon show.

Both have very poor animations and lame blood effects.

i think the Darfall one came out on top though

Darkfall is a good game, yes but to me its just too much freedom for a player.

Now when I watched the darkfall videos I wanted to know more about the game so i looked it up and checked out more videos and read a bit about it......the game just seems like it would last very long in the hands of a typical MMO gamer. Reasons beginning and ending with the "too much freedom" thing, from the onset all the skills in the game are aquirable, no classes, there are no levels, no real skill leveling, no story, possible lore but no story, and for me, the joy of playing any MMO is to come up with a build or level up or get a feeling of achievement from playing a good part in a scheme that someone else created.

Take Warhammer for instance, I'm a soldier in a war and I'm doing my part to win that war and no matter where you go you or what you do you know what you are and what you are in that world for. Darkfall doesn't have that, I don't see it having that and I don't see myself or many other people staying in the world for too long. The game is like an enhanced version of fury with a bigger map and much more freedom. I honestly see it becoming a bit like Eve (and I like EvE) but the bad result of eve without a story.

Yes I know I sorely will not be missed in Darkfall but if Darkfall really wants to survive, its going to need alot of people playing it.

    This is not a game.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion OP, but I strongly disagree with it. I was very disappointed with the video. To be honest, I cannot see this game competing with a game like Warhammer at all, a game that has been in development only three years as opposed to Darkfall`s seven years (right?) and looks far superior in my opinion. Please do not misunderstand, I'm not a Warhammer fangirl. I'm very happy for Darkfall fans that they've received what they've been asking for, and I`m all for sandbox and old UO-style PVP rulesets - I`m just not sure how someone can say the game looks better than WAR at this point, besides the blood and mounted combat.

Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV

Personally as a rule I hope for the success of every MMO in development, whether or not there seems to be much hope, heh. The more successful games = the more players benefit.

From the QA description here on mmorpg.com, Darkfall seems a lot more like Ultima Online than Shadowbane. In fact, every single feature and mechanic listed (with the exception of 1st person perspective) is exactly what UO had. I don't think that any other game with all the features of UO has come out since then. And I was definitely disappointed when Origin got swallowed up by EA and UO2 got scrapped.

Anyway, I say best of luck to the Darkfall team. I'll play whatever comes out, whenever it does.

Typical WAR fanboy. Take a word that already means something to everyone and change it's meaning to fit your purpose. It's sort of like how you fools claim WAR is "innovative" when it has no innovative features and is solely based on a gimmick referred to as "RvR" which is just basically an overglorified forced faction vs faction system. A system that has existed since the beginning of MMO time.

well i gotta give props to darkfall devs.... they have come a long way since 03.

this game seems like EVE, except with a fantasy setting. It will be interesting... no doubt.. with as much freedom as they promised. However, sometimes i feel that THIS much freedom means it's a lot harder to jump into 'fun'. I say this, because there are obviously no instances... meaning that to pvp, you will almost always need to group up with a few other mates, which is obviously time consuming and they may not always want to pvp when you want to... unlike in WAR, where you can just jump into a scenario or what not.

It does seem to sacrifice graphics and animations look a bit off (but of course, this can all be changed). Combat is also limited. It's like Oblivion's sword mechanic, except you can't side step to do a side swing. I'd also like to add that ranged classes will be a lot more powerful than melee classes. Since that it's all about skill, rather than gear, it means that having a ranged weapon will be more advantageous in most situations, unless you have a melee char jump you from around a wall.

I dont realy want to comment anymore, but it just doesn't look as tasty as WAR :-S after seeing those vids

Looks like Vanguard a bit....though before i get jumped on I understand the 2 are nothing alike.

But I believe it will likely fall pray to many issues Vanguard has now, low population and a huge world to explore....that is always trouble.
