Ermmm.....well yes it would be if your goal was to reduce the human population. I would personally rather have an argument....ahem! I mean....umm.....a debate online.
God, what do I even come to this site for anymore?
As God generally isnt in the business of answering peoples questions I'm really not sure why you are asking him. I would guess that its because you were bored and looking for a decent argument/debate/conversation to get into. Maybe its because deep down you know that all the online games that get made are actually rather shallow which helps to foster a feeling of frustration and unrest.
Or maybe you just like chatting to people about game related stuff. Thats the reason most people come here.
These games are about trying to have fun. So you don't - big deal.
Actually the OP made a point of saying that he was enjoying the game. Its ok though as many other posters chose to ignore his statement and act like angry fanboys as well so they took the brunt of his perfectly acceptable put downs. You get to walk away unscathed. Arent you the lucky one.

I played ryzom recently which was meant to be a sandbox but found that if i stepped of the trial area at level 1 ( or fight 1 if you prefer..still a level ) i got wasted easily. Is Everquest a sandbox? because in the first few expansions i could go where i liked at level 1...ye i might get killed but i could still go there, only my skills stopped me and my stats.
Now i am playing WAR and think it's the best game to come along for a really long time, but hes right it's a tree! doesn't mean it's a bad game. Skill based, Level based, item based...doesn't matter they are all just different ways of grabbing the same goals. And come on do you really think a true sandbox would be a good game? maybe for a month but then frustration would take a hold. Of course there would be a few who would percivere and become gods if you like ( and i would be one of them ) but generally people just dont want realism, we want an alternate world and life to play in.
Come on guys and gals, leave the guy alone to his opinions and try to add something to the thread.

Very well said. Thou art the voice of reason. However the OP really doesnt need to be left alone. If you read through the whole thread you will see that he handled himself perfectly well. Yes of course all the dumb ass fanboys jumped all over his statements like a swarm of raging snotlings as we all knew they would but I dont see that as a problem. I found his retorts highly amusing actually, especially as what he was saying was true. The snotlings tried to attack from every possible angle they could and yet Rabenwolf still managed to fight them off with ease. At the end of the day the only thing the fanboys could do was screech the word "troll" at him which of course is so old and tiresome now that it isnt even worth paying any attention to.

I remember one guy who totally smashed me into oblivion. He was a fine verbal warrior if ever I saw one. Its good fun......but oh no......does that mean I'm a troll? Oh the shame!

Historically, sandbox games do not do very well.  Some can sustain themselves with a small to moderate population, and keep growing over time.  (EVE, for example.)

How is EVE a sandbox or not as the OP put it ladder based? It is just cleverly hidden but EVE is a ladder as all MMOs are. Just because there is no character level does not make EVE special. In EVE the ladder is standing with Corporations, that is essentially a level. In EVE your level is also defined by the amount of time you trained which translates to experience. You can not train battlecruiser before you learned spaceship command IV and Cruiser III, it is a ladder as all other games are.

Just had to comment on this, EVE is a very good MMO, but it is the same as all the others in terms of ladder or linear progression.

Thats a really dumb statement. How is EVE a linear game when you can go ANYWHERE at any "level"? The game doesnt restrict you based on how skilled your pilot is so in fact it is nothing like the other mmos at all. There are indeed ladders of progression but the game does not restrict how you choose to play the game based on those ladders. In EVE you can fly and survive anywhere if you are a wise pilot and know what you are doing.

    You fail.

It was pointed out already but you can do  the same in WAR, you go to any Tier you want in any area. You will just die in a lot of them because you're not strong enough. Its the same in EvE, you can't waltz into 0.0 right off the bat in the game and waltz right back out. And you already admitted it IS a progression ladder system, just like every game is.

I used to listen to what you used to say neon, but right now you're making that pretty hard to respect even reading what you are trolling here.

Yeah except that in WAR each tier is designed for players of a specific level range and anyone lower than that range WILL die but in EVE it is a lot more open than that. You get players of varying degrees of skill flying in 0.0 space and you also cannot neccessarily tell how skillfull they are as they dont have a single number attached to them which denotes how pwerful they are (eg my level 20 spaceship beats your level 10 spaceship just because its got a bigger number). Your choice of ship, the focus of your skills and the selection of modules that you outfit your ship with can determine whether you win or lose a fight. Its possible to defeat a more experienced pilot in this way. The same however cannot be said for WAR. A level 20 player will always defeat a level 10 player no matter what you decide to do.

Yes EVE has a progression ladder system in terms of its skill points BUT the game does not have zones that are aimed at characters with a specific number of skillpoints. It doesnt funnel you like a rat in a maze like WAR does.

So no its NOT the same as EVE actually. Not even close. In fact its glaringly obvious that this is the case so how come you cant see it?

Now that I've just crushed your argument does that mean that I have earned your respect back (lol) or do you still think I'm just trolling by pointing out a fact?

Honestly, I am not sure you played WAR. You can go to Tier 2 or 3 at level 1 if you wanted I believe. And if you bring some higher level people with you, you’ll probably live. So to say you “will” die is wrong, it’s the same exact idea. If you have people with you, you’ll live. And stating you can’t see what level they are doesn’t mean anything, in the core coding of the game some people are still fundamentally more powerful than other players, it’s just EASIER to put it in level form.

In EvE a 70mil will always beat a 3mil, if you say otherwise I can make that same argument for WAR. If the guy just stands there in WAR, a 10 can beat a 20 easily, especially because they are boosted to 18 to make it easier. Once again, proving you probably never played WAR. In fact, I see Level 10 people fighting level 20 people in scenarios everyday. They don't normally win 1 on 1, but they can very much help the team and contribute to the fight.

And just because you fanatically post over and over and flood the topic with only your opinion doesn’t make you right all the time. And it definitely doesn’t make you right because you say so. EvE is a totally different game I agree, they are nothing alike, but under it all, it’s the same thing. You don’t get more and more money/skills in EvE because it serves no purpose; it makes you stronger and better. Like I said before, a level 1 doesn’t just go into 0.0 and live by himself. You can argue it’s possible, but I can do the same for WAR.

So if you think you “crushed” my argument ... that makes me lose even more respect for you. You’re just dead wrong and so “hyped up” with how right you think you are, aka arrogant, you can’t see that.

Neonwire, welcome to my ignore list. After such hard work you have deserved it. It's a lonely place though but you can always brighten it up with some good attempts at trolling. Please enjoy your stay and don't let the ignore bugs bite.

Cereo you have, obviously, not played EVE or not played it long enough. A 70m SP character can beat someone with 3m SP in the same frigate with equal equipment? Now I understand why a guy I know loves flying T1 frigates with the cheapest of equipment and beats T2 frigates with T2 equipment, it's the fact that the much wealthier and older players are simply better. Play EVE, then comment, it's not a MMO in which one level makes all the difference in the world. I wish WOW was like this and if WAR is really different to WOW in this aspect I will give it a go.

Also Cereo, just block neonwire, he's a sad, lonely person who needs this attention.

You really are upset arent you.......and all because I dont agree with your funny idea that the design of life is like the game design of Warhammer online. All you had to do was just admit that its a daft statement and then you wouldnt be feeling so angry and resentful now. I think I proved that point in great detail and yet you are still sulking over it. Just think you could actually be feeling happy and contented instead right now.

So you have blocked me......oh no please unblock me.....PLLLLEEEAAASSSEEE!!!! Its too much to bare! I cant stand it anymore! It ssooooooo lonely here all on my own with no-one to talk except for everyone else on the planet apart from you........but then you wont reply to this will you because you've blocked me right? If you do reply then it kind of means that blocking me doesnt mean anything and you wont want anyone thinking that now will you.

Its strange and amusing that you come back to this thread to get everyones attention simply to state that I need everyones attention......but then maybe you have no choice. Afterall you are on a level based ladder progression system right? So life must be funneling you back onto this thread. Maybe you need to go up a few levels before you can go soemwhere else.

Oh and re-read what you typed to Cereo. You've kind of got it all mixed up a bit. Basicly the points you are making are all back to front. I'll let you try and figure it out

Arrogant? Me? How dare y....ermmm.....yeah ok I guess you're right. I can slip into arrogant mode quite easily I suppose.....but then thats not such a bad thing really.....especially when I know I am still right.....well.....mostly right anyway. I certainly wouldnt agree with you on the suggestion that I am "dead wrong".

My statement that a player in WAR "will" die in a higher level zone WAS dead wrong though so I will happily take that back. Yeah that was a daft thing to say (ya see Liranan.....it doesnt hurt to admit you're wrong from time to time......everyone says silly things ya know). However although a beginning character in EVE would get crushed by a more experienced player, the same cannot be said once a player progresses past the very early stages......not that there are actual "stages" in EVE of course, the same of which cannot be said for WAR. For example a pilot with 10 mil sp can fight a pilot with 70 mil sp in a 1 on 1 fight and still have a perfectly good chance of winning. The 70 mil pilot may indeed have a few minor advantages with some additional support skills but if the 10 mil pilot has trained his skills efficiently then the difference will be negligable and maybe even non-existent.

In WAR however a level 10 player will always get crushed by a level 30 character in a 1 on 1 fight. Always......unless the level 30 player falls asleep or nips off to make a cup of tea which is kind of irrelevant of course.

Also I think the main point that was being talked about earlier was the difference between WAR's game design which is like a ladder and shovels players into "rooms" that are designed for their level range while EVE 's game design is not like this as all of its "rooms" are not geared towards anyone in particular so players of varying skill levels can mix it up in them.......apart from 0.0 space in which really young pilots will have a hard time. So WAR is a ladder and EVE is not.

Have I crept back into your good books now?

I'm just gonna throw my 2 cents in the pot. Now, I've played a LOT of MMO's. Some of you see through the illusion of fancy shmancy gear, monsters, quests, leveling systems, professions, etc...some of you...don't. Every. MMO. Is. The. Same. You start out small work your way up and own derp derp. It's all fucking pointless. Excuse my language, but it's the truth. None of any of this even matters. It's just a game. And every one of them is exactly the same.

Some may agree, others may not...It's still the truth.

One ring to rule them all...and I stole it!

WAR is as linear as a straight line, with not much else to do but PvP. I think this is what the OP was getting at. If so, he is exactly right.
