They haven't missed any official dates yet. This has been avoided by proper wording. But is a mute point. I have no problem with Mythic but they are owned by EA and EA had plenty of bad history for me atleast and alot of other UO players. Point is I bashed your bash on someone else who was bashing a bash made by someone else lol. It's all rather pointless. I trust Aventurine to the extent im waiting for the release of DarkFall. I believe the features they have said will be in will in fact be in. I base this trust on the what seems to be there current buisness practice. They won't be charging me to try the game. If they did lie like the fore mentioned companies it won't cost me 50-60$ to find that out. So it really serves them less purpose in doing the same lying the other companies have. I trust Aventurine because honestly they won't gain one thing by lying to me if they let me try the game for free before buying it.
FC did not do this. They lied and charged you for the knowledge they did. Even EA didn't give beta Access to Warhammer without a pre-order. So the other companies charge you to find out, while Aventurine is going to show us for free. See why I trust Aventurine on this? Because I lose nothing by doing so. Neither do you or anyone else that wants to bash on fans or ect. If they fail to deliver no one is out of pocket to find this out so it's no where near the same as the money grab companies. If I trusted FC which many did they were out 50-60$ to find out they were lied to. Argue all you want about how DarkFall will suck or fail or be vaporware but the point is it isn't going to cost any of us a penny to find out. So chill , wait and see.
Which is another thing we will have to wait about, won't we? Testing the game for free before I buy it is one of the things that'll have to be there. Will it be there? Who knows.
And by the way, all I am saying to people here is that they should "chill" as you so nicely put it. Both sides need to chill. That goes for the Supporters as much as for the "Haters".
And I am not going to get into the argument about how crappy EA is or how crappy FC is. This is a moot point. I've shown you the reasons why I do -not- believe everything Aventurine says. Please, go on and do the opposite. I'm not trying to keep anyone from believing in this game.
I'm only trying to keep people from presenting the game as though it already IS everything it promises to be, simply because of "the Dev's say so". Anyway, I am signing out now. I hope my point got across somewhere.

It's by no mean "simply" because.
They're way more accurate and trustworthy then people like you that actually dont have a clue. You have nothing backing your cautious line. It's merely a history lesson from earlier failures you're bringing up.
Having faith in the one's developing the game is actually backing a way stronger case then the opposite.
Without reading all the replies, the OP's agrument was that smaller companies stand no chance then he gives a quote saying how a budget of ~3million (USD) was required only 7 years ago.
I would like to refute his first point, about small companies not having any chance. Most MMO's get their fair shot -- the game just has to be good enough for players to want to play. Practically every modern MMO had it's fair shot - AoC, DnL, EVE, you name it - MMO fans have heard of it / played it. A big hype machine is not needed.
Secondly, there was a recent inteview with a greek gaming website. In this interview, the developers revealed that they've spent about ten million (Euros) on game devleopment.
I'd say these two facts refute your agrument fairly well. Most people try out any MMO they can get their hands on and the DF team has sunk considerable amounts of money into the development of DF.

So Funcom is considered a "small" company. Haha Than what does that make Aventurine? A company full of complete amateur developers who have never launched a single product on the market that anyone knows of let alone a MMORPG that is (on paper) supposed to be as feature rich as Wow? (ya right)
For that reason, Jacobs sees a hard road ahead for smaller companies like Funcom, which earlier this year launched Age of Conan.
But Jacobs also believes that an independent studio like Mythic was in 2001 would not have that same ability in today's MMO market. Now, his company has the considerable backing of new owner Electronic Arts -- and those kinds of resources are necessary to compete in a post-WoW world, he says. "Back in 2001, you didn't have to spend anywhere near the amount of money you do on an MMO now," he points out. "Look at what we spent on Camelot: $2.5 million developing it, $650,000 in marketing it. You couldn't spend that on a triple-A MMO now if your life depended on it! You just couldn't! It would get you nothing in terms of content."
Actually it might not effect them in the way you think it will.
My sense is that he is talking about typical development. But as everyone knows, Dark Fall has been in development for a very long time by (or so it seems) very dedicated people.
So as he said that a small amount of money would not get you anything with regards to content, it seems plausible that a company with dedicated people who take a loooonnnnnggggg time to create the game could make up for that money with dev's taking less money, few dev's and then utilizing a "when it's done it's done" approach.
In a large company or a company where employees expect certain things, it might not be possible. But get a small group of extremely dedicated dev's who just "plug away" you might get a finished game but it will be after a long period of time.
Given from what I've seen of Dark Fall, there is a game there. Good? Who knows. Also, a pvp game might not require the same level of content or quests. Heck, look at lineage 2. Horrible quests and not that many as compared to many other games. Most of the content is player created in the sense that he politics and drama fuels the game.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I think the fact that is missing from this conversation is that EA is not actually a profitable company and has been losing money hand over fist.
It has not made a profit for over one and half years and they have not announced to the public how much WAR cost to produce.
It may be a big company but it does not have infinite resources and is reliant on loans, just like some other companies like hmmmm.... Aventurine who recently got a $25m bank loan.
EA / Mark Jacob's may think it's a big boy but in reality it's a failing company and they are not in any position to advise or criticise other companies.
So really you have no idea who has spent the most on their game, Darkfall may very well have cost more to produce than WAR.
altho TenSpotting is overreacting i do agree that hes assuming just as much as the DF supporters do cause DF isnt playable. yet.

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't read the whole thread, but I just want to say this. Jacobs is right if your company is pumping out the same old boring linear class based, level based, quest based pieces of crap that have been flooding the market like Mythic does. Yes, if you are going to make another one of these abominations, you need big bucks. But if you are willing to break the mold and do something different, then you don't need the big bucks.

But the sole fact that this game will be refreshingly different from 90% of the games out there will give it the boost it needs. That's common sense.
How is a Sandbox PvP game based on ideas from 1999 "refreshingly different" ?
Darkfall is nothing more than a Shadowbane clone with Horses and boats floating around.
You are showing your ignorance here, and of top of thinking WoW is feature rich you have zero credibility, and seem to fail to even be able to grasp the concepts involved here. Darkfall has been sepcifically developed to vater for all player types.
Yes that is all player types. Not just PvP , too difficult a concept to understand I guess. But is you apply some logic and common sense you profess to have you may get it if you think about it.

Just another truly entertaining thread of Fans vs Haters. Reminds of an atheist, and a religious person arguing over the existence of a deity in any form. blind faith vs scientific proof.
Though I dont agree with the OP and his attempts at trying to troll, I think come time when people can play the game, no one really knows what darkfall has to offer. The videos dont give anyone any real proof of whether or not it will have all its features etc.
hopefully it comes out for the fans out there, there has been enough failed games last few years. It will probably be a niche market (which is by no means a failure in todays mmo world since having 100k or more subs means generally turning a profit for small companies to improve and expand their games). I think that if they chose to put in some safe areas (not alot or the hardcore pvp types will cry over it) may give them some chance of having a large base of players.
If you look at market trends since MMOs became the market it is today, probably 30%or less will play with full pvp looting (thats actually not a bad number).
I imagine if its even 80% or more feature complete at launch (whenever that is, I wont guess on it since nothing is set in stone) it will be a success.
Playing: Not much actively. Games played: to many to list, been playing MMO's since 2001 --------------------------

jacobs is 100% right. IF you're trying to make a WoW clone... oh wait, he is.
The best feature in Darkfall.....You can kill Gold Sellers/Spammers:) There is no better content.
However, I'm still thinking its too good to be true. I hope it works out..this is my near my dream game feature wise. But, like I said its just too good to be true for me right now. so I purposely stay away from getting involved in the community on the forums, or let myself get excited about it.
Gold Selling/spamming is bad for gaming btw.
See you in the dream.. The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
lol You all are trying to argue fact and faith witch is the dumbest thing you could ever do why? .
1. Darkfall is a game in development..... FACT!
2. Darkfall is feature complete.... Faith.... There is no tangible proof to support this claim ( words are not tangible that is a fact)
3. Darkfall will release this year..... Faith.... there is no tangible proof to support this claim (again words are not tangible proof)
4. Darkfall will rock the whole world.... Faith....
5. Darkfall will be good... Faith.....
6. Darkfall... will succeed... Faith... noone knows.
So you see... Why argue about something you have no idea what will happen. Seriously. Its like trying to argue faith you just cant its all about what you think is true.
It's sad that all the "100% sure it will fail" people will play the game if it comes out and have already signed for the beta. They're just fanbois afraid to get their e-peen hurt again like after DnL, Age of Mourning, Vanguard, Age of Conan...

Well Darkfall's budget has already past 14mil, 7 times that of DaoC.
Than what does that make Aventurine? A company full of complete amateur developers who have never launched a single product on the market that anyone knows of let alone a MMORPG that is (on paper) supposed to be as feature rich as Wow? (ya right)
As feature rich as WoW?
Darkfall have alot more features then WoW.
And Darkfall features isn't the carebear one's.
Have a nice day
Where are the darkfall features you are talking about? Oh you mean the list of words typed out by someone I do not know, and I never get to know, who called himself the developer? How different is that from the promises Bush made when he is campaigning for presidency. How different is that from the vague ideas coke tries to project into your head in their ads? And you choose to believe them all without a trace of reservation. Good for you, I trust them no more than the words of a travelling salesman knocking on my door.
WoW has features, whether you like it or not. Carebear? So the use of that word with an intention to insult proves you are stronger, or that it suggests the quality of the would be DF community? Maybe that alone seals the fate of the game, as you type of anti-social psychos can hang around an empty chat room talking to each other, praise the ghost town sandbox, IF AND IF ONLY darkfall delivers.
Talking about illusions, you actually use a list of wishful thinking as a basis to compare with working features of WoW that has been thoroughly tested by 10 million players. You must have a very unique sense of logic and perception. Do you also see ghosts and orc sitting next to you as you type?
If you seriously want the game to succeed, go shore up $10million or simply buy up the company and supervise the production. Shouting slending here won't help. If all you want is to insult people go ahead. I do not know you, you won't hurt me, you only give me a good laugh as I swallow my lunchbox.
everyone who is participating in such a mindless debate over such stupid things is a moron ... if the interwebs has ever proven anything is that no one will win this forum battle and you are only doing it cause girls wont talk to you
As feature rich as WoW? Darkfall have alot more features then WoW. Based on what? You're need for it to be that way? And Darkfall features isn't the carebear one's. Who cares? How does that equate to success? Have a nice day You too
Darkfall feature list, its a long one so i suggest you get some coffee -
I see. So I am assuming you have actually seen all these features in the game? And actually working as intended?
I have seen enough to have faith in what the developers of Darkfall claims. Developers of Darkfall already stated out that the game is feature complete. Statements like that i have faith in.
Alot more faith then i get from anyone on this thread or on this site that's calling out for cautions concerning the feature list.
Cautions based on what?=)
Have a nice one
You have seen enough. Good for you, you are sold.
Not me, I am not plunging into deep waters based on the words of a Mr I do not Know. A beta or a good past record (like DAoC) will be a start, a poor track record (oh do I have to repeat the good history of aventurine?) is a bad start.
I cannot tell for sure if DF is coming. God knows. But I am not going to even worry about it till it comes, which may not happen in my lifetime. I have betaed god and heroes, and it sunk after a full beta is almost over. DF is still technically a pile of words, words about features, words about internal beta test, words about superior AI driven test. Every it has is just words. What else does it have besides words? The videos, oh come on. And that is a proof? Haha.
If you enjoy reading words, fine. I do when I pick up a novel during boring summer afternoons. But not words about a game. IF its a game, I want to play / test it, not reading about it for 7 years. Actually I do not think i will enjoy reading a book for 7 years, and by all accounts the best novels are much richer than the crap list and incoherent words used to describe DF.

Trust me, unless DF does as terrible as the naysayers are naysaying, then Aventuring with have a means to pull it off unless they all get turned into monkeys by aliens.
TenSpotting is the infamous Darkfalltroll, he has more accounts all over the internet than Paris Hilton has sex diseases. He is also a former Age of Mourning follower, can't recall his nick there, but rest assured he was as stupid back then as he is now.
He's been quiet lately, propably a bit shocked about the latest DF video.
yea he hasnt been as bad but still another alt account come on hes so easy to point out
Just another truly entertaining thread of Fans vs Haters.
Games played: to many to list, been playing MMO's since 2001
--------------------------
I allways see "this game will fail because" posts and i allways find it humorus due to the fact they usualy know nothing.
jacobs is 100% right.
How is a Sandbox PvP game based on ideas from 1999 "refreshingly different" ?
Darkfall is nothing more than a Shadowbane clone with Horses and boats floating around.
Read the feature list and you'll understand.
Darkfall is very refreshing compared to the carebear games delivered last year's.
Have a nice one
Read a FEATURE LIST! Oh my god, I am enjoying a feature list.
Next time don't eat the instant noodles, read the text on the package and enjoy it.
everyone who is participating in such a mindless debate over such stupid things is a moron ... if the interwebs has ever proven anything is that no one will win this forum battle and you are only doing it cause girls wont talk to you
Darkfall feature list, its a long one so i suggest you get some coffee -
www.forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=43318
Long enough for you?
+ all the features unknown by now.
Have a nice day
