Ok, one more time. I am not here to jugde other people. I really don't care what games other people play or where they spend their money BUT I think it's important for us as consumers to send the right MESSAGE.
We need to tell MMO developers that is they keep feeding us this unfinished crap, they will GO OUT OF BUSINESS. Maybe next time when some other developers have a genious idea of releasing a game too early to make some extra bucks, one of them will say: "Remember what happened to FC?" and they will polish the game for few more months.
Problem are the FC fanbois. I was in AoC beta, and many people there, including myself, were trying to ask FC to delay the game, make it better and add content. But the fanbois just said: "They want the delay because they want to play for free! The game is perfect!". These fanbois don't care if the game is finished or not. Their life has been about waiting for an MMO for years and they want it out as soon as possible. But they are a minority and when developers listen to them, well.. we saw what happened.
If we used used your brilliant logic, mr. Professor78, we couldn't even talk about the game because we need to "let everyone make there own minds up". Why don't we shut these forums down then and go try every single MMO there is? That is just dumb.
I'm not here to command people not to re-subscribe. I'm here to talk about the situation and hopefully make some people think twice before giving more money to FC.
Other than that, seems you take to many things personally about the launch of the game, if 50$ was too much of a gamble for you to take, i suggest you wait 6 months before buying any MMO.
50$ is chump change. This is a question of principle. I have no problems with the game being a failure. I have a problem with FC repeatedly LYING to their customers and I find it very strange that some people don't have a problem with that. It seems like many MMO players just bend over and take anything the developers give them.
We as customers are giving the wrong message if we keep tolarating lying and bad products.
The OP is correct. This game is not going to turn itself around in a few weeks just because a new guy got put in charge and announced a patch that has a few fixes. It will take atleast six-months to a year before this game will really have had a chance to fix enough bugs and add enough content for it to be considered to be truly reformed. And I wouldn't resubscribe until I saw for sure if this 3.0 patch is going to deliver as much as they claim it will. If it actually makes a few promising changes and improves the gameplay then that might be a good sign for the future, but just because Funcom claims its going to rock your world and put it on the test server tells you nothing. Wait until its live in the game and then see if its any good or not.
I also agree that its not an issue of one person losing $50. Its an issue of Funcom stealing $50 from thousands of people and not delivering the product promised to any of them. Gamers need to send a clear message to game developers that this kind of tactic will not be tolerated and that they can make more money in the long run by giving us the game we wanted then by giving us crap and running away with our money.
Take a look at what happened to Dark and Light. That game was awful on every possible level. People demanded refunds, left the game in droves and finally the developer got his pants sued off. Currently the servers are offline and the last few people still employed by the developer are hiding out in China to avoid the consequences of their actions. If what happened to Dark and Light happened to everyone who made a bad game then the quality of MMOs upon release would skyrocket because developers would finally be AFRAID of letting their fans down, which is the way it should be. This attitude of "aw, it just released, you can't expect it to be good yet" is the wrong attitude to have. When a business sells a product, they should be expected to deliver quality, reguardless of if the customer pays $1 or $1,000,000.
As for Cobra. Yeah, I imagine its possible hes being paid off by funcom to pretend to be a fanboy. But I think the first mystery we need to solve is if he is trying to make some kind of political statement by having a picture of McCain in his avatar while he trolls these forums to death over and over.
I love AOC! I love AoC because its forums and forums attached to it. It cracks me up all the people who say "Warhammer sucks, Im going back to Conan". If anyone thinks that AoC is better than WH just look at the numbers. AoC is going down like a ball of fire from the sky and people still try and say that its better than every other mmo out including Warhammer. Lets see...Warhammer has been out over 2 weeks and hardly any adjusting has been done to the classes at all. How many nerfs did AoC go through in the same time frame? I would say at least 10. Warhammer is so far beyond AoC its not even in the same league.
The forums about AoC are more fun than the game itself. Im gonna laugh so hard the day (and probably soon) Funcom either sells AoC for pennies on the dollar or it goes out of business. Then what are you fanbois gonna do? Claim it was these forums and such like it that killed the game? Thats like saying if Obama doesnt get elected its only because he's black and not about his liberal beliefs. Perhaps, but isnt it true that Mythic pulled four calsses that were supposed to be in the game at launch? That in my book is balancing in its most severe form. /Marsultor
Please save your money and don't pay for beta AGAIN. They fooled us once with lies and hype, for your own sake, don't let it happen again. Have you forgotten already? Don't believe the crap you read on these forums. You really think they are going to turn around the AoC nightmare in less than 6 months? Won't happen, trust me. Sure they will make small changes every couple of weeks but under the surface it's still the same boring game that people learned to hate. I would wait for at least a year before trying it again. New Game Director is a good thing. But seriously.. you think Craig can change everything in a few weeks? FC still has the same incompetent game designers and coders and no amount of motivation and good leadership will make them do a miracle patch. Sure, management is important and CAN make a difference but it takes TIME. Lots of it. You need to hire and fire, make organizational changes, etc. Craig said some good words about the future but that's just what they are, words. I could quit my job and become FC's new Game Director and write 10 pages about how we are going to change this and implement that, but it doesn't mean shit. Don't listen to their words, wait for the results. Also I recommend you do NOT listen to guys like "CobraSolidus" from Norway (!) who came out of blue the same time FunCom stock hit rock bottom, and writes many posts every day telling how AWESOME the game is or is going to be. I mean, are people blind? Don't you see that clearly this guy is affiliated with FC in some way and is trying to get more people to finance their MMO disaster? And I'm sure he's not the only FC employee visiting these forums regularly. Personally I will never give FC another cent of my money, not even if they made the MMO of my dreams. It's about a principle. We need to send a message to developers who lie and deliver incomplete MMO's. I'm looking forward to seeing FC go down in flames. I just feel bad for all the hard working low level employees who were betrayed by the management and had no part in this fiasco.

It is not the $50, or whatever amount that was paid. It was that we were not delivered a product as advertised, and, further, that we were lied to again and again. Waiting 6 months for any product to deliver what is advertised is not a good way to do buisiness, and I for one am proud to be a part of an MMO community that stood up and voted with our wallets, as well as legitimate vocal criticisms, of a flawed product. Sure, we may be out $50, but one corrupt Game Director is out of a job and a company that has lied since day one is paying enourmously for it's sins. We, as consumers, are the winners here, and it is up to Funcom to dust itself off and gather what is left to fix it's tarnished reputation.
Releasing patches for a broken game is hardly all that is needed. No, to make things right Funcom has to not only cease it's practice of misleading consumers, it also has to find a way to make things right. Firing Gaute was certainly a step in the right direction, but hardly a complete fix, either. Empty servers don't lie: the community is sick and tired of Funcom and its lies. Lets be real here, however: very few of the people, myself included, that Funcom ripped off would ever consider giving them one cent ever again. GAME OVER.
It is no accident that AO is a FTP game. Funcom=FAIL.
but only after all the things they listed are life and stable
this maybe in a month, 3month or never but i dont hold a grunge towards funcom i truely believe even the original game was worth its money in terms of fun for me
i payed double the box price for far worse games and $50 bucks for around 150h of fun was ok for me i have good memories of the game, i still love the combo system and the graphic and atmosphere
i just wont pay anything to funcom atm till i get another chunk of content
Really? What game, exactly, did you pay "double the box price" for? I'm really curious because I have been gaming for a long time, and I have yet to see a game list for more than $69.95 (which IMO is highway robbery!). $49.95 is pretty much the going rate for any newer, complete game, so where does this $100 figure come from?

here in germany i pay around 40euro for pc games and 70euro for xbox games
i have tons of xbox games that were fun to play but didnt even have 1/10th of the content aoc holds.
if you want to compare computer games id say the pricing is similar but even top titles like assassins creed or the upcomming tomb raider wouldnt hold for 150h. my usual livespan of single player games till i have been thrue them is 30-50h max yet they have the same pricetag then aoc and dont have to deal with servers and multiplayer issues.
as a programmer theres some little voice in the back of my head that sais we (the community) is judging mmorpgs a bit unfair compared to the rest of the gaming industry. look at games like guitar hero/ rockband for example where people react to blinking bubbles and compare that to a world of wow, aoc or warhammer.
what i wanted to say is just that i didnt regrett spending the original $50 but ill only spend another $16 or whatever price once i know that theres new content. then ill play my $16worth and check into another game.
this is NOT typical MMORPG play where you would form guilds, friendships and such but honestly there are so many games out there and on the horizont that ill become a game hopper anyway. raiding/grinding/pvping the same end game content just doesnt hold the same interest for me then exploring a new game once i broke free from the "i must be the highest level/ best geared person on my server" carrot/stick thingy

But it has nothing but absolutely nothing to do with the general complaints I read on these forums.
And then to see such ignorance like people saying to look forward seeing FC go down in flames surely proofs what type of people actualy try to play gamesi n this genre which is in many way's ONE of the biggest issue's this genre is facing.
I subbed to the game for a month to see how things were and suprisingly the performance I been getting in the game has been really good. No game freezes or huge lag spikes anymore. Yeah it has flaws still but what game doesn't ? Tortage was actually busy with alot of players rerolling characters, I was actually suprised.
People are resubbing because....
1. They aren't playing WOW
2. They was disappointed with WAR
3. They still like the game alot and are willing to deal with the flaws until more fixes come which are coming. There is actually a sense of hope for the game for the first time. I think the letter from the director gave people some hope and want this game to succeed despite the buggy launch. As long as they keep fixing things which they have been people seem to be curious enough to give it another try.
Yes everyone listen to the OP, the paid Blizzard shills that haunt this forum will not get their bonus checks if people resubscribe, don't make up your own mind listen to a compensated forum member!!!! Think of their families!!
Anway, the upcoming patch does have a lot of folks excited, it's funny that the pronouncment of failure by a few haters hasn't really effected anything, people are still playing still having fun if anything the game is growing.....so much for the master plan.
a lot of people like me, only quit because the game wasn't finished.
Figure give them some time to do what should have been done before release, then come check the game out when it's done.
Although, I'm not sure it's there yet, personally.
I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food"

Actually in Australia $100 is standard retail price for a new game these days. And thats not all currency either as our dollar is around $0.8 U.S
that's the word that people are resubbing, i see it all over the AoC forums. But not sure how many and if it's true. there's been alot of good news from the new game director and the updates are big and add quite a bit. But if i would have quit the game and thinking about resubbing i would wait a couple more months for these updates to make it in live.
Other than that, seems you take to many things personally about the launch of the game, if 50$ was too much of a gamble for you to take, i suggest you wait 6 months before buying any MMO.
50$ is chump change. This is a question of principle. I have no problems with the game being a failure. What do you suggest? Who should get the MMO players money? WAR perhaps? Then I could say, we MMO players should not reward mediocrity and nonnovel coding? Sorry bud, you are on your own here. I reward inovation and evolution of gaming, which is FC in this case. This is stricktly up to me and any other gamer by the way, elfman.
Aoc might have sounded innovative on paper but was anything but in practise.
The combat system was relativly innovative and can be fun but all they really did was remove the global cooldown, remove auto attack and add multiple button presses per ability, while this is a more active system it's clearly increadably hard to balance, all games struggle to some degree with balance but AoC has been an order of magnetude worse balance wise than any other mmo I've played.
The city and seigeing system which is meant to be a very significant percentage of end game content, it isn't innovative at all, Shadowbane did siegeing way way better and even did city building better, SWG did city building so much better, there is no customisation, no feeling of life, no feeling of ownership, no houseing, nothing, not only did they fail to be innovative but they failed to even compete with the other games that had done this.
Other than the seigeing they failed to add meaningul reasons to pvp, again shadowbane did this very well with mine fights and rune fights, I was hopeing for resource fights and tower fights here but they failed to deliver.
The other part of their end game dungeons and raiding, this isn't really something I'm hugely fussed about but there was no innovation here either and Warcraft has got this sort of thing sewn up. Dungeons, Heroic Dungeons, 10 man raids, 25 man raids, tokens so even if you don't get a drop you are still moving towards a reward. There is also a huge lack of strategy in raids and dungeons, again not only did they not innovate here but they failed to live up to previous games who did this.
Crafting not only was there no innovation here but it's the worst crafting system of any mmo ever and again they havn't been able to balance it at all. They seem to have taken the worst of both worlds, it's not complex, deep and engageing like Vanguard, SWG, EQ2, nore is it simple, easy to access and fun.
PVE, no innovation here other than the full voice acting in tortage which was fantastic, unfortunatly they were unable to carry that through, they have now added a few quests outside of tortage voice acted but the vast majority arnt' other than that they don't offer anything WoW doesn't offer and they do it worse with the instances killing any sort of immersion.
Warhammer isn't hugely innovative either though they are at the top of their game in the things they have chosen to focus on and the open party system, the public quest system and the tomb of knowlege are all great additions to the genre that I hope are used by many other developers from now on.
Aoc made the mistake of trying to be everything to everyone and ultimatly failed to be anything to anyone. Had they focused on the pvp, not bothered with raiding, not bothred many multiple mmo's at once, not started an expansion untill the game was good enough to retain subs and not bothered making a 360 version then they would have been able to make one of if not the best pvp mmo out there and done very well.
excuse my spelling, I don't have access to a spellchecker here.
lol you guys kill me. I do hope you work this hard to oppose and campaign on real life issues like healthcare, and job loss, and 700 billion dollar bail outs for the rich, as much as you do about a damn video game!!
After patch 3.0 with the new zones, bug fixes, class balances, updated crafting, new dungeons, im going to jump back in. Those are the things that should have been out in the beginning i know, but hey, i dont need to dwell on the past, i only need to remember how i got to the present.
It looks like the game is going in the right direction and, for some odd reason, AoC's graphics blow Warhammer out of the water and Warhammer runs like crap on my PC.
Other than that, seems you take to many things personally about the launch of the game, if 50$ was too much of a gamble for you to take, i suggest you wait 6 months before buying any MMO.

You did not just seriously compare AOC to dark and light did you?
AOC = Following the fact that most MMO's launch unfinished.
DnL = Amateur hour, not even one single things was developed by the "Devs" anything it had, was already in the world engine. And, yes, that game was a true scam from day 1.
The two do not even compare. This is why the "Hate" and Crusades for this game and its makers is laughable. Especially to anyone who has been playing MMO's from their inception.
Funcom just hasnt broken the mold from unfinished MMO's, DnL was still born, and charged for it.

This is a very good post. I agree 100%.

Maybe anger management would be for you?
They glow a nice green color if you ritually burn them. Dont ask me how I know this!
Don't burn them, it will release toxic fumes from the plastic and then you would get a loss of health due to the game.
The game is getting better and some A$$ hats want to say this is a bad thing. Im not saying who they are but maybe others can see who they are.
Are people seriously re-subscribing? I am not.
Anyone who claims they are having fun in AoC at level 80 must also like to watch paint dry. Its pretty much the same thing.
I'm going to check it out again in one year.
Thats if i can find my install disks seem to have misplaced them.
Actually in Australia $100 is standard retail price for a new game these days. And thats not all currency either as our dollar is around $0.8 U.S
I just re subscribed. Games not that bad.
The Stranger: It's what people know about themselves inside that makes 'em afraid.
that's the word that people are resubbing, i see it all over the AoC forums. But not sure how many and if it's true. there's been alot of good news from the new game director and the updates are big and add quite a bit. But if i would have quit the game and thinking about resubbing i would wait a couple more months for these updates to make it in live.
I am VERY close to re-subbing.
Why?
It looks like the game is going in the right direction and, for some odd reason, AoC's graphics blow Warhammer out of the water and Warhammer runs like crap on my PC.
