Negative so far ... but that could be due to a lack of information.

Completely as I expected, but nevertheless still dissapointing to me, it puts to much emphasis on story-driven and beeing a hero.

    - It's an mmorpg .... i want to create my own character and story, not some writer that does it for me!

    - I fear yet another singleplayer with tidbits of multiplayer elements ... i can't stand another War/AoC ..

    - FREEDOM .... let me do whatever I want damn*d ... don't play the game for me!

It will be a Blizzard MMO Formula with a Star Wars wrapper around it. Done in a linear fashion as to make it possible to be story driven.

I'm glad we are getting a new Star Wars MMO and I am hopeful it will be a good game but I am fully prepared (and expecting) to be disappointed yet again.

After the last few years of horrible, shallow, and derivative MMORPGs that have been vomited upon us by both "visionaries" and corporate-game-assembly-lines alike, new MMOs have lost their right to get any benefit of the doubt from me.

Extremely positive and validated.  Everyone knew what was coming except the SWG SOE diehards whom have been living in denial for close to 3 years now.  Someone got a bugle and ready to play taps for SWG yet? :)

I thought "Oh goody, another single player game disguising itself as an MMO. Oh look, "stylized" WoW graphics, even better! Whats that? The game is going to be like other MMOs with 'some innovations?' sounds like just another clone to me. And look at that, not even in the clone wars setting, what a dissapointment and damnit I'll probably try it anyway.

What I'm negative on is the assclown fanbois who say that anyone that is negative on another bs mmo "need to get laid" or "head to the retirement home". Sound just like those effin WAR ****sucker fanbois that were SO disrespectful to anyone who didn't say WAR was a wow killer or talked about the fact it looked like a shallow wow clone. When will these so called adults act like it? ITS A GAME, not all of us jump threw hoops at the devs beck and call and CAN look at a game with skepticism. Its called being a discerning consumer. Jackasses.

this could go either way.  I'm not too excited about it nor disappointed.  More or less I'm just waiting for more info.  I'm not too sure about the whole hero thing.  I'll just wait and see I guess.

Right now I'm mostly curious about it. Neither positive nor negative.

I like the games Bioware has done in the past so I'm confident they are gonna do a good game. Just not that fond of the style as it is too much Clone Wars about it. Like if George Lucas himself is the producer of the game...

But I'm gonna follow the game closely as more information surfaces. As said, curiously.

(Just like I follow other games as well... =)

I wouldn't call mine an initial reaction, but more of a considered reaction.

I want to run and grab the suits behind the decisions and explain to the that we (I at least) want complexity and more realistic graphics.

I fear SWtOR will be a huge let down for everyone like myself that is still trying to fill the void left by pre-cu SWG.

I like the idea of getting a new SW MMO, however I just don't see the point to pre-judge the game right now, it's too early, I'd like to have the power to look into the future like other ppl around here, but I haven't.

    Whatever

    this sounds good!

but I hope we soon get more info about this

I voted negative and based on the first few posts I am clearly out of my freaking mind and clearly a moron.

From what I have read so far this is what I see:

    • Two factions
    • Lots and lots of story driven gameplay (instancing?)
    • Typical linear Bioware gameplay
    • Lacking customization (I've heard there are only a few options planned for character creation)
    • Extremely solo friendly

I'll look to see if there is more stuff. I've only briefly looked through the website and FAQ but that is what I've seen so far (my initial reaction so to speak). I like the idea of being able to change your factions or whatever they are using (falling to the darkside, moving towards the "goodside").

However, the game sounds too much like everything else. Story driven is really that revolutionary? Really? All they are doing is taking what they have done in single player RPGs and applying it to MMOs, which really makes me question if there is going to be loads of instancing similar to AOC (which would drive me away instantly).

What ever happened to actual Star Wars gameplay? I'm not an SWG fanboy, I never actually played it. It still doesn't mean that I want another WoW/EQ style game again. I'm sick of these games with their linear gameplay and players having little to no affect on the game world. What is so wrong with adding more customization and player driven storylines/content. Am I spoiled from playing Eve all these years? Is it so hard to ask if I could be a bounty hunter, blockade runner (smuggler) or any other of the many different "classes" within the Star Wars universe. Why is it that developers like Bioware want to ram this class/faction bs down our throats? Let the players have a bit more control over the game.

And since when is story revolutionary? Almost every game I've ever played (including MMOs) are story driven. This isn't some new or grand. How people can eat this up as a new standard or Bioware "breaking the mold of MMOs" is beyond me.

But again what do I know, I am clearly a moron.

Upcoming mmo's i learn not to get excited anymore.  Too much of them have been HUGE let down at the end.  So i voted Neutral.

  • JpizzleJpizzle Member Posts: 371

I like that htey keep driving home that the game will be haevily story driven.  The RPG element has been missing from most mmorpgs for a long time now.

i Have to point out somthing here, look at bioware games, graphics are beautiful so i know they wont stick wth that cartoon look they have now, its pre-alpha and they prolly are barely doing ingame testing, the idea of putting RPG back in MMO makes me happy, i want to be my character and making choices and not being able to reverse them makes me happier, i want to stop for a moment and make a choice and stick with it.

    That is all

  • Raiz1Raiz1 Member Posts: 177

My initial reaction is that it seems that LA is banking too heavily on the Star Wars IP to sell this product.

You have the fans that will pick the game up no matter what, then you have the people that remain skeptical of the MMO market and will remain detached until the game is released.

As for the looks of the game. I simply don't like the disproportionate look of the characters. That, however, could be made up with good gameplay (if there is true saber collision) and fluid animations.

I don't like linear content, and I don't like restricted storylines. My biggest concern is that this game as an MMO will have both.

Has anyone noticed the Pre-production Art looks simular to SWG's?  Compare the Twi'leks and Rodians.  How much will look like SWG?  I understand many of the devs from SWG's launch are working on SWTOR.  Is this bad or good?

As soon as I heard Bioware and Lucas Arts were going to come together on a project I was hoping it would be a new star wars mmo.  I really hope they do this right because I've been dying for a good new MMO to come out that could potentially replace WoW for me.

I know Blizzard is working on a secret MMO right now but I don't know if it will be good enough to sway me away from the Force!

  • HrothmundHrothmund Member Posts: 1,061

I do not see how anybody can formulate an informed opinion about a game which is currently probably in pre-alpha with many key issues still undecided.

I personally felt some initial excitement at an other Star Wars MMO(Maybe it can be done right this time.), but that is about it.

People, wait for more information before jumping to conclusions.

Im excited as bioware is a good comapny and is taking aspects from the other major names and companys out there but also what they lacked.  Story I love storys so this is going to make me get a brand new comp to play this title.

  • TzimiscechiTzimiscechi Member Posts: 230

I was pretty happy to hear it. I'm a big Star Wars fan - but the NGE has proven that even I as a fanboi have limits about what I kind of Star Wars stuff I will put up with.

Anyway - rumors are just rumors. I wasn't putting anything in to any of the rumors. I wanted to hear if from the horse's mouth.

Thus with all the stuff leaking out I was half expecting "Indiana Jones Online" - especially with "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" out.

I liked KOTOR 1 and 2. I was happy to hear that the rumors were true.

I don't care if it's mostly a solo game. That's how I like to play.

  • SathonysSathonys Member Posts: 58

Personally I am freaking pumped..  I am a long time Star Wars fan,  absolutly love KOTOR and have owned every Bioware game.

The graphics while cartoonish are still good from a pre alpha point of view,  sure Ligtsaber hilts are huge but I am sure it will be fixed.

The Old Republic is the absolute most perfect timeline to have a mmo set there are no pre defined story lines in this era of the Old Republic.  Sith are plentiful and Jedi are plentiful,  they have also stated there are non Jedi class's that will be available although I have a feeling we are going to have a 100 Dark Jedi to 1 Light Jedi Ratio.

New quest style sounds fantastic to have a storyline you define.  Sounds alot like kill 20x and deliver 20y might not be as prominent in this game as it is in every other.

Multiple Planets more then SWG fuck yeah!!!!  Sure the game is not Sandbox like SWG but we know what happened to that game and we know itwont be happening here.  All in All I am definatly hyped while Sandbox is prefered over linear for every mmo I truly deeply believe this game will surpass most expecations.

I sympathise with your view completely. This will be yet another single player rpg dressed up in the same old tired and worn out mmo format that we have all been seeing time and time again for the past 15 years. Thousands of players will all be grinding along the same old linear path, mopping up quests and grinding mobs on the road to max level and the end of the story.......just like any other single player game.

    And you know this, how?

The developer has released around twelve paragraphs of information and some early/pre-alpha screens. This tells us naught about the final product.
