Story does NOT = roleplaying game.

Story = Limited ability to play the role of a character in the way you choose. You can only experience the "adventure" that the developers have designed for you and cannot create your own story.

This "RPG element" which you refer to (ie game tells you a story and you follow it) has not been missing from mmos at all. It has been implemented in nearly all of them along with the single player rpgs too.

I have read over the website and while I like the lore and the world of starwars, there are just so many quests left.

Space combat?  EQ sytle combat or something new?  Housing/cities/forts/etc?  PvP system?  How many races?  How many classes? Etc..

Just to many unanswered questions, to know if it's going to be truily unquine or just another wow clone with one unquine feature(that doesn't work right) and whole bunch of missing ones.

I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.

I am excited, honestly.  I don't need it to be SWG, just be it for itself.  The problem with SWG is that they changed the core fundamentals of the game part of the way through.  With a new game, the game is what it is, and I miss playing in the Star Wars universe.  I will watch this one with great interest!

The developer has released around twelve paragraphs of information and some early/pre-alpha screens. This tells us naught about the final product.

We know this because of what they didn't say.

Where did they use words like "freedom", "unparalleled character customisation", "hugely detailed starwars universe", "unrivaled diversity in gameplay".

They didn't which means that isn't what they are selling, and those are the things a lot of people want.

Lol, people are going to get hyped about this game as they got hyped about Age of Conan and Warhammer, well that's good. I'm glad we have some new hype to put on the table. But I have learned not to get over hyped. Anyway, this should be a good game, cannot wait for it lol

I doubt it. The success of WOW + LOTRO shows that those are NOT things people want. People want good entertainment, good games, and good content. You don't need a huge sandbox to deliver.

I am more happy that they are going in a different direction than another has tried b4. There is no MMO focusing on stories .. not to the extent of bioware games.

Im glad that Bioiware makes an MMO but I was kinda hoping for "Neverwinter nights" online.

Still, I am positive. Bioware have a lot of things that the MMOS really needs now, we been playing very similar games for a long time and I hope they will add some more RPG in MMORPG :)

The success of LOTRO? Do they really have so many players that a you should use that term? It is not a failure but EQ2 is as much a success and so is Eve. The 2 games I would use the word for is Guildwars and Wow.

Still, you are right, a sandbox is just one way to make an MMO, and I am happy that Bioware is trying to go their own way, not copy Wow or SWG. Yes we do need a sandbox MMO but Bioware have a lot to offer to the genre ad we need that too, let someone else deliver the game for the sandbox people, Adventurine or someone.

Just because someone else made a MMO in the same world doesn't mean you have to copy them. And let's face it, SWG was never a huge success like Wow and GW. I don't think Bioware is aiming for 250K players.

Yes they are in on it, but the two co-founders of Bioware are now VP's of EA.  And considering that arguably there hasn't been one bad game that Bioware has made yet I am really looking forward to this one.  Although I will not proclaim it the best MMO or whatever until the time finally comes to where we can play it.  If I have any anticipation or excitement for it, I'll keep it to myself mostly so I don't get beat up for it later if things happen to turn bad.

    In one word ():

    Suspense

Neutral as I would have much rather it be set during the Timothy Zahn, Thrawn Trilogy, period.

I was like HOLY!!!! This is going to be the best game ever, but don't get overhyped

Any new game is a good thing, Bioware are a decent company too.

However, fears of another unoriginal, safe themepark grind seem to be on the horizon given what very little information we have so far. But here's hoping for the best, 'positive'.

I'm really excited about the fact that it's coming and we have a solid name and all. However, there really isn't that much information out right now for me to become fanatical about it... not yet, anyway.

That will not be Bioware job.  Marketing has always been controled by Lucas Arts and thier goal is very simple... break 1 million subs.  Compared to WOW and Rune Scape its a modest goal.  Lets just hope they realize the IP is not suppose to cover for shortcomings of the game.  Further, IP arrogance needs to be checked by the management. We all may love Star Wars, but the strength of its appeal is not universal.  Appeal to the fans first and foremost then tweak to gain non-fans and other MMO players.  Quit trying to grab the mythical audiance and take care of the ones you know you got.

I had to pick neutral just from the lack of information.

I wish it was sandbox ... but 12 writers with dialogue options (ala Neverwinter Nights) could create the feel of a sandbox.

Everybody a hero means that nobody is a hero. There's only so many times you can hear "I'm a 25th level sith ... muhaha!" before it no longer holds the same appeal.

    Here's why :
Apart some details about the story line we know quite nothing about the game.
Graphics that fits perfectly Marvel comics but not SW.
Hero, and so, they put too much emphasis on you being the Hero. I really don't care about being a hero.
NPC with you, allo? When I play an MMO I do this tho have roles filled by real players not manage a (dumb?) team. I want to interact with people.
So far I don`t see how it's an MMO but maybe the subsciption fees. It looks more like a paying Kotor Online. I hope future details will prove me wrong.

I agree with most all of this. But the thing that most made me get a sinking feel was the npc group crap. I hate that in games. Up til' then I was fairly positive. Need more info though. I am surprised there is so little info at this point.
