Also level 19 twink in WoW is "exstensive grinding"? Even for a twink that is an overstatement if ever there was one. Though I agree with leveling alts. Not anywhere near as much fun the second time around.
Heh, my brother's 19 twink hunter cost him close to 2000 gold for the necessary gear, plus a lot of off-time gear-drop research and being run through crucial quests by his friends. That's too much grinding for me, thanks!
Just because your brother considers 2000 gold worth of gear as "essential" that doesn't make twinking an extensive grind. You know the old saying about a fool and his money.
The WoW community. Haven't heard a single reference to whatzisface, Walker, Texas Ranger.
on my time in WAR i heard no one talk at all. Even a immature community is better than none
Not to my way of thinking. I like it quiet compared to idiocy.
Yup.. if you can't say something smart.. don't say it at all.

The more posts I see like this the more I get the impression that WAR is full of miserable, sourfaced misery guts who think its such serious F'ing business that you should ONLY speak when you have something constructive to say - else keep your trap shut.
It's a game for crying out loud - what's wrong with having FUN? Each to their own, but quite frankly I'd take Barrens chat over complete and utter silence any day. I can play a single player game for that.
With every day that passes I'm more resolute in my decision not to try WAR.
P.S: I eagerly await the obligatory 'good, stay in WoW' reply from an aforementioned misery guts.
i'm gonna try and be biased here I had some fun in wow but it wasn't for me. I actually hated wow battle grounds when i played them which made me not follow warhammer at all before it was released cause i expected the same pvp. It is different a lot different.
Wow is set up that every class can take out any class 1v1 warhammer classes are not set up like that a witch hunter for example can take out a sorc, magus and a zealot pretty easy and fast. But trying to 1v1 against a tank is pointless you just can't do enough damage with there armor mitigation. Sure you can kill a badly played tank 1v1 with a WH but if you 2 are even matched the tank should win everytime.
my point being is the pvp is designed around group play. In warhammer in order to win you need ot have a front line of tanks and melee dps in front of the healers and casters and just like in football who ever weakens the front line first gets to kill the casters/healers. of course witch elves and witch hunters can sneak around the front line and take out a healer or caster maybee two if the front line doesn't pay attention and turn and focus fire on you right away.
My experience in wow BG's was that everyone was just looking for the 1v1 kills.
I am in tier 3 now in warhammer and there is RVR action pretty much every night in High pass on my server always at least 50 people on each side. The other night it started about 8pm i went to bed at 12:30 and it was still going on strong. That was constant rvr action they would take batttle objectives we would take some than there would be a huge brawl in one open area and pretty much any where else in the RVR area there was small skirmishes were you could find 2v2 or 3v3 fights.
Yes the pvp in War does not have the raiding that WOW has. But as far as going to a quest hub collecting all the quests completing them all and moving on to next hub that is identical to wow in my opinion. Both games had the same basic pve but not advanced pve. Though there is 1 warband zone i have been in MT gunbad that I love it is an open instance meaning you might not be the only group in there and really is a zone for 12 people to go through. But the catch there is when you get to the boss you have to zone in and can only be a group of 6 in that boss fight. Now you can take 24 people and clear out all the trash mobs fast on your way to the boss than split up into groups of 6 and all of you can fight the boss at the same time but in seperate instances. Meaning you have a much better chance to get that loot drop from the big boss.
PQ's are pretty dead it is hard to find a pug to go through them with. But i have done all of them on my alt up to chapter 9 with just 4 people i'm a tank,a bright wizard a rune mage and a archmage there was only one pq we could not finish the entier thing. So they don't take as many people as it would seem to do them.
So i guess to answer the O.P's question
War has some very fun adn exciting open rvr to be able to get a good strategy working with 49 other random players is not easy but when you all get on teh same page and just rip through the other side for a while it is a great time.
In my opinion if you want a game for mostly PVE and Constant raiding for better gear Play WOW
If you want more pvp that requires group effort to win than play WAR.
I know i rambled on a lot but i just couldn't stop typing there is so much more i would like to say but i'm going to bed.
1. Guild scheduled sieges vs guild scheduled pve raids
2. Send tells/ask guild to do pqs, use lfg, send tells/ask guild to do instance
a. And instances overall are way more fun, and oftentimes more rewarding then pqs(since they are the same things over and over, grind XX, kill XX stronger(or grab XX while XX guards them), kill XX big guy. They have no real individual flavor compared to instances. I never found a time in WAR that even came close to comparing the first time i ever did deadmines in wow.
3. Queue for scenarios, Queue for BG's.
a. And despite the increased amount of scenarios for war, they have far less replayability then WoWS BG's. I don't know if it's because of the gameplay or simply design. But i've done a TON of bgs in wow, more then even 1% of the ones ive done in war. And the wow ones simply are more fun.
Why?
Because in WoW, each person can do his own input into the fight more noticably. Combat in WAR lacks any... feeling. I was a BW melting people alive, yet i didn't feel it, i didn't feel my dots, i didn't feel my big fireball crits. It was all so impersonal.
b. Right now i'd rather play wow farming honor, then play WAR and level and gain renown in scenarios.
4. Solo quest.
a. except wars quests offer pathetic exp, they are less grindey then wow(which is a good thing), but just like wars combat, they don't have any feeling behind them. To me it was like oh kill him kill her, kill these, blah blah blah. It never truely had any real feeling, just like hitting my target didnt have any feeling.
So.... what's different then wow? I basically would be doing the same thing as wow, only less polished(i don't care if it just released, i'm not gonna make a exception, if you come out in 2008 be ready to fight the opposition in 2008)
---------------
Then the terribly low server population which can't support the spread of players.
----------------
Then let's look into the classes... wow. what a surprise, 20 classes? yet less unique then wows 9?
Tanks: Ironbreaker, Swordmaster, Chosen, Black Orc - Paladin Druid Warrior. 4 vs 3, with 2 being mirrors. Let alone the difference in how druids play in comparison to paladins and warriors is more then the difference between the everything except chosen.
Melee dps- Witch hunter, white lion, marauder, witch elf - paladin druid warrior shaman rogue. Actually less melee dps then wow, with mirrors further negating the uniqueness.
Range dps- Engineer, bright wizard, shadow warrior, squig herder, magus, sorceror - shaman warlock mage hunter priest druid. 6v6 this time, but again with mirrors.
Healers- Runepriest, warrior priest, arch mage, zealot, shaman, disciple of khaine- druid priest shaman paladin. I'll admit the individual healers play more actively then wow healers, but not enough to say war stomps wow.
At the end of the day the 20 vs 9 class debate really isn't... that good of a debate.
Overall war is a good game, but it needs servers to be 3-4x as populated as the highs are now to be truely a amazing game. which simply isn't going to happen.
What does war have that wow doesn't? Come wotlk... it'll actually have less...
This is ignoring the fact that war's items are terribly designed/balanced.
Heres why WAR is the same as wow. What you do in it.

I would hope with 4 years 2 xpacs and many content updates WAR would have less then WOW. Thats a no brainer.
OP: you're right. Absolutely nothing. I canceled WAR after two days. Couldn't stand the grind, the ridiculously piss-poor animations, and all the bugs. By the time I got to level 3 I knew the game was going downhill from there. The battlegrounds are worse than WoW's. The scenarios are meaningless because they don't affect the real world. Thank God WoW doesn't have a grind. WoW has MUCH better RvR too - it's called ARENA - the single greatest PvP mode in MMO history. Fun, exciting, BALANCED (every class is equally represented, as it should be) - unlike the horribly imbalanced mess that is WAR.
Clearly you haven't played the game.
Purpose in life is not to gain things, but experience. - Rover64dd
This last upgrade, 3.02, broke WOW so bad I can't play anymore there are thousands or millions of us that cannot play, and Blizzard has no clue how to fix the mess. Some of us haven't played since the upgrade.i
"That's why i am here. Looking for a mmorpg, not a tee-shirt vendor like Blizzard.
Too easy. Diverse classes. You see in wow, there are 8 generic, cookie cutter classes. The ultimate slap in the face is that Horde can play Paladins. I first started playing Warcraft in '96 and horde was evil. they had Death Knights -- alliance had paladins. But blizz had to sell out and take the easy way and make both factions have the same generic classes.
Also in WAR, the bad guys are evil -- unlike wow whereas the bad guys are "misunderstood."
Hope you enjoy your paladin v paladin fights. Cuz i sure didnt. Big reason why I quit -- CLASSES. Something WAR did right. We got more to choose from and they are fairly unique and different.
Again, this was too easy.
Pathetic. You got all your WAR lore "facts" wrong. Your argument fails right there in the beginning.
please explain what WAR lore facts are wrong. I cant wait for this...
Duh, everyone knows WoW came first and WAR copied everything WoW represents. Anyhow, despite how stupid that is, WoW fans don't know any better and whats worse is like someone already said. Blizzard sold out on its own lore and gave Paladins to both sides as well as Shamans. Basically taking the only diversity left in the game out. Can anyone say, worthless and lazy choice for a PvP lacking game?
the bland, cookie cutter classes to choose from in wow is in a word, pathetic. I couldnt believe when they gave paladins to the horde -- like I said, I started playing Warcraft in '96 -- paladins where one of the most powerful alliance units and death knights where all horde --
my how things have changed for blizzard. Just too easy for them to give paladins to both sides. And whats worse, people still play. That was the end for me, I will never go back.
DK was scurge not horde.Arthus was in no way affiliated with horde. but you're right alliance never had shamans and horde never had pallis. technicly neither side should have DKs MAYBE possibly undead race but that would be a stretch

I'll be sure to let my brother know, along with all of those foolish enough to follow the twink guide he used - like most everyone in his guild. Perhaps your own twink is quite as 'twinkie' as you think ;P
Yes nothing it even lacks allot that wow has and everything that it says made it unique wow is simply putting it in the expansion so in the end wow wins again though many will lie to u cause there Fanbois of the new train, in the end everyone will come to the simple truth war is a wanna be wow just like what the NGE did to SWG, at least AOC tried to be it's own game, after 2 months of playing this game i can honestly say considering how much crap they stole from wow , they should of named the game World of Warcraft 2. (End of Story)
The more I read posts like this, the more I get the feeling that some people are afraid that WoW is losing ground to War in fact. I know some avid WoW players who decided the last weeks that WoW doesn't feel good to them anymore since they played War. I already passed that stage long time ago.
I think many people are happy that after years there was finally a MMO released that can replace WoW for them, but I don't think the WoW-fanatics really have to be afraid that their world will be empty soon. There's more than enough room in the MMO-world for more than one MMO. It was time there came some serious competition.
And anyway liking a game or not is just a matter of taste.
In general WAR have tons of things that WoW do not and everything that both have is better than WoW except one - for me the only thing that WAR is missing from WoW the addiction. Depending point of view it can be good or not depend if you like to be addicted to the game or not.
For me WAR is better in any aspect inculding that is missing of addiction becasue this way its not so engaged and more relaxing - even I enjoy the WAR I still have real life.

I played WoW for the first 5 or 6 months it came out. I played WAR the first month (Waiting a while to resub). WAR is the first game I have really liked PvP and I've played many. I only played in the scenarios because I never knew when open RvR was happening. Everytime I ventured into ORvR it was empty.
And so the battle ebbs back and forth between the two essential groups that would rather inherently argue a meaningless topic that will never affect them, nor matter in the larger picture whatsoever.
You're comparing an almost 4 year old product, to that of a 1 month old product. That in itself raises several issues, and I would be willing to bet that a majority of the Warcraft posters here were not there in the original launch, and those that were are quietly forgetting the experience.
Take your pride out of the equations guys, you might get somewhere. Until then, it'll be like trying to slice concrete with a plastic knife.
While Mythic should focus on immproving the RvR and give RvR the best rewards ( Scenarios are too rewarding compated to RvR, PQ's, Instances and questing atm ), I have had GREAT fun, almost comparable the to best fun I ever had in any computer game ( DAoC pre - ToA - New Frontiers ), with Fortress Defense, Keep Attack/Defense, Objective Attack/Defense and open world RvR with hundreds of people just killing eachother, total fun
The community is great, i never hoped it would be that great, but it has been quiet I agree, however with the implementation of Zone chat, things are getting more alive. Especially in Tier 3 and 4 where cooperation is needed and Guildleaders, Officers and Warband leaders start talking with eachother for coordination.
Nothing in WoW can compare to RvR, but I agree, it still needs more improvements and more rewards.

On the stuttering some poster mentioned, do you have an NVidia card/mobo? It's an issue with those that have that setup. I do, and had to do a little digging to find a fix for it. NVidia might be good making graphics card, but damn, they suck on all the other hardware. Not my first problem with that piece of shit mobo, it's fast, but damn buggy.
Anyway, now WAR runs stutterfree, and display all the crap onscreen as it should. Not to say the graphics engine ain't without it's own problems, but most are possible to hotfix till Mythic themselfes get around to fix it. Google is your friend, ya know.
3.WoW doesn't have a Tome of Knowledge and I never care about it. Content is more important than a book for bragging rights. WoW have so much content that I NEVER had the time to explore everything.
WoW has achievements now which is similar to ToK. I agree in that I don't much care for it - but I was doing a BG the other day and unlocked about 5 achievements I didn't even know about which was quite fun.
Similar!!, ripped so directly from WaR that its embarressing when my gf doesnt know what game im playing because she thought WaR had achivements...omfg
Wow is the master of stealing ideas from everywhere but normaly they put their own WoWish spin on it but achievements are a blatant rip, tragic.
How come all WAR defenders always claim that WoW rips everything off from them.
LOTRO were out long before WAR with an achievment system, in that case called deeds.
So what did WoW rip from WAR that was so original about the system? At least they didn't include any 'kill 25 spiders', 'kill 100 spiders' achievments, which LOTRO sort of even had.
To answer your question Antipod, it's because that is what WoW, and Blizzard as a company do. They take an idea, polish it till it shine, then release it to the public. Been that way since after that Warcraft adventure game fiasco they had after the success of WC2-Orcs and Humans.
Who stole what is irrelevant anyway. It's a laughable argument from both sides, cause that is what we humans do. We take an idea, polish it, then release it to the public. That's the way we progress as a species. Every idea and technology we have today is built on another idea someone had before, which is built on another idea someone had before that again and so on. This goes all the way back to the invention of the wheel and the discovery of fire.

Yes I know what Blizzard does... they take what is good (or bad) and makes it better. Normally anyway.
My question was more about how WAR fans often blame WoW for ripping something from them, like the game they play invented it, when it's so obvious they themself ripped it from someone else. Or well, at least for us that have been playing more than one or two games over the years.
I can understand that people focus on World of Warcraft with the blame for everything as they are the big player in the business... I'm just a bit irritated when it is on false ground. People need to look up stuff first.
And the most important thing is that people enjoy themselves whether it is in WoW, WAR or any other game... the more they rip the good parts, the better for us all really.

Orly? I played wow for 4 years, and I can tell you 90% of all pvp activity on a pvp server in WoW was done out of kill griefing. Thats right...and anyone saying otherwise is a liar. You had level 70's going to Tarren Mill and South Shore camping 20-35's and killing the npc quest givers and guards.
<removed my reply>
Forget about it, these forums are so full of wow hatred for whatever reason....

WAR would be better than WoW in every aspect amationable if they did three things
1. made doungens better (make AI better ect)
2. Better animations
3.better performance on lower end systems
if they did these thre i would consider it better than any modern game on the market.
(the second 2 are more important)

Overall war is a good game, but it needs servers to be 3-4x as populated as the highs are now to be truely a amazing game. which simply isn't going to happen.
What does war have that wow doesn't? Come wotlk... it'll actually have less...
This is ignoring the fact that war's items are terribly designed/balanced.
I would hope with 4 years 2 xpacs and many content updates WAR would have less then WOW. Thats a no brainer.
Clearly you haven't played the game.

Well for one thing you can play WAR.

Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

I think WoW had a great idea, specialized merchants at PVP areas. If you hold a RVR zone for 24 hours, a merchant appears with unique crafting items.

Google is your friend, ya know.
..back to you mr. op

Grammar nazi's. This one is for you.
Edit: evol grammar ghosts..again..pfft

<removed my reply>
Forget about it, these forums are so full of wow hatred for whatever reason....
And you know what ? People in WOW actually pvped for fun without any rewards, before a ranking system etc. came out !
wow "pvp" and "fun" -- two words combined that dont make sense.
Yeah heaven forbid, someone else likes something that you don't, imagine that !
