I think this is much ado about nothing, maybe Syria got embarassed as well it should be.
It sounds like the mouth of a river of terrorists was just inside Syrian borders, they knew it but wouldn't give us permission to go in- let alone take care of it themselves. So apparently we went in anyway and wiped them out. Sorry, but big deal. What are the bets that Syria was aiding the terrorists in more ways than asylum?

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
If it's true that our attacks killed civilians (including four children) like Syria is reporting, then it was a bad move. You can't just go in and blow up civilians in another country, no matter what is going on.
But who knows if Syria is even reporting the truth. How could we ever know, unless you were there when it happened?
I wonder if any Obama supporters will claim that this is an attempt by the military to put the focus back on foreign affairs thereby trying to boost McCain's election chances.
Not to worry. The McCain/Palin campaign is in the middle of self-destructing right now, as the GOP is facing its greatest defeat since 1932.
What does bother me about this that all it does is piss off the Arab street and provide Osama bin Laden with fresh troops. The deserting coward is his greatest recruiter; Osama will miss him very much. The Biden predicted crisis that will challenge our new President will probably take place somewhere in the Middle East. Too bad the deserting coward has broken our Army.

I call total BS on the dead civilians. You have to remember that this happened at, or near, a farm. This was not firing missiles into a metro area. Syria is trying to play the victim and blame America here, nothing more. They harbored a terrorist camp at the least, probably financed and trained them at worst. Of course they are going to lie.

Here's the problem. Reports of dead civilians will be accepted as true because the US now has a reputation as not giving a rat's ass about civilian "collateral damage".

WOW...You really know how to cut to the chase.
The brothers of the ones that died will be the future terrorists.
Funny how the US is the only nation that has to use "smart" bombs to protect the people of an enemy government, yet all those other ENEMY nations do not.
Siobabble, our nation's military is NOT broken. Either you are a bitter vet or you are completely off your knocker.
I'm disgusted by this statement. Seriously, QQ
These... these... abominations don't mind dying in the slightest, remember they are highly rewarded by Allah. These are the same people that strap on bombs and kill tens or hundreds of children in schools. The 'ones that died', had a mission of death for themselves and others. Their 'brothers' are most likely (100%) terrorists themselves by the way. If they think about becoming a terrorist because their brother died, which was his mission, well that is darwin law right there.

The Army IS broken. Retention rates of experienced soldiers, both enlisted and officer, are down. Way too many West Pointers are getting out as soon as their service obligations are up. Mid level NCOs, who are the backbone of our military, are calling it quits after too many combat tours. Two star generals commanding divisions, the kind who are being groomed to be the four stars of tomorrow, have called it quits over this senseless war and occupation.
The long term damage to our Army is as great, if not greater, than done by Vietnam.
The smart bombs are basically PR. The reality is they are only as smart as the intelligence reports that direct them, and the problem is intelligence is way short of the perfection that the PR folks would have you believe.
I have been in the Army. I've served at every level from platoon to division. DO NOT take everything the military tells you at face value. You need to read between the lines.
It's necessary to put oneself in the shoes of those who were unfortunate enough to be at ground zero for this attack. Would you love America for boming your farm? Would you think well of Osama for bombing your farm? How do you think most Americans would react? You know, like so many did in the aftermath of 9-11, demanding revenge at anyone remotely "Muslim" looking? Like Sikhs perhaps, because they wear turbans?

A slightly different take on the operation:

fishermage.blogspot.com
Bloody constraint; for if you hide the crown
Even in your hearts, there will he rake for it:
Therefore in fierce tempest is he coming,
In thunder and in earthquake, like a Jove,
That, if requiring fail, he will compel;
And bids you, in the bowels of the Lord,
Deliver up the crown, and to take mercy
On the poor souls for whom this hungry war
Opens his vasty jaws; and on your head
Turning the widows' tears, the orphans' cries
The dead men's blood, the pining maidens groans,
For husbands, fathers and betrothed lovers,
That shall be swallow'd in this controversy.
"The liberties and resulting economic prosperity that YOU take for granted were granted by those "dead guys"

Now?
The U.S. has had that reputation since WW1.
(That's what happens when you don't fight wars on your own soil).
I didn't see any pictures of any dead ppeople at all, let alone children, only an abandoned building site.
I don't suppose Syrians are all that shocked. This kind of border infraction can't be anything new to them over the last 5 years.
And I don't think, unlike in Pakistan, that these kind of attacks are in any danger of destabilising the region. The Syrian government isn't politically weak. If anything an outside threat strengthens it.
I think this is either an example of Gunboat Diplomacy or the U.S. simply feels no reason to respect Syrians at all.
Are the Syrians currently re-engaging in Lebanon perhaps? Were they building a defence installation? A radar maybe, a listening post, a SAM site? a smuggling tunnel?
Either way I don't see it changing anything for the better or worse. Just another war story. America hates Syria becuase Syria and Israel have territorial issues. This won't ever change.
There was never a chance at world peace, I have no idea why people think there is. Obama himself has said that if a country harbors terrorists, we basically don't have much of a choice but to take them on. He is already planning all out war with Pakistan, and the same reasons he has for that apply to syria as well. You see as long as these people wish to kill us, we have no choice but to take them out first.. not fun, I sure as hell don't like it, but I am not in denial of what has to be done here. We either lay down and die or we get up and fight, and it is better to do so before they have the power to "wipe us from the face of the earth" because they will as soon as they are able to.
The U.S. is by no means the only government to do that. Almost every NATO nation has used smart bombs to do the same in Iraq, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia. And very recently the Russians did the same in Georgia. The Chinese do it. Everyone who has smart bombs does it.
If Syria had smart bombs and air superiority it would do it too. In Lebanaon most likely. It certainly has shown little restraint in militarily intervening into the lives of enemy governments before.
Unfortunately McCain is planning the exact same thing. Leaving American's no option but to vote for nuclear war.
I stopped following U.S. elections the moment they both espoused their foriegn policy together. I'd like them both to lose.
P.S. Pakistan already has the power to "wipe us from the face of the earth". All it needs right now is the motive.
Okay... Everyone that actually seems to believe terrorists aren't people...
Do you think it's just a mere friggin coidence that Al-Qaeda targets USA and almost solely USA alone?
No, no it's not. Al-Quaeda doesn't hate USA for what it is but rather for what they've done. They say this themself and the mere fact that USA is their main target should be a big enough of a hint that these terrorists are people who've lost people close to them, homes and other things due to american attacks. They hated Suddam but hate what american soldiers have done in Iraq but the many deaths have also helped them in recruiting more members.
But yeah, go ahead and create more martyrs and cause grief and pain to people. I must ask, how did the american army find out that there was terrorists where they attacked? Were they sure? How did they find out this?
LOFL
uhm. NO
how about its their upbringing and the 'churches' they attend.
they're taught there whole life to hate US.
-I will subtlety invade your psyche-
Now you're just being naive. Where did you hear this? Do you have any sources to back you up? And furthermore, if they are brought up to hate US, what do you think sparked this hate? Do you think some bigshot muslims sat down and decided for a specific country to hate? And how long have this common USA existed in the middle east? I haven't researched how far back the hate goes, but I'm willing to bet it goes back to earlier wars against the middle east. And the fact that America supported Saddam with weapons and such might've helped too.

LMAO... YOU SIR...ARE the naive one.
How so? Care to eleborate? I'm not trying to defend Al-Quaeda's actions, but I think it's good to at least be aware that they have a very specific hate for USA and that there are reasons for it.
Al Quaeda had no beef with America until America stationed forces in Suadi Arabia. (Infidel forces that refused to convert to Islam).
Yes, it is to do with what they are taught in church, but it is also in response to U.S. actions.
It is laughable to believe that American's have not given a whole host of people good reason to want to wage war on them. Laughable.
It doesn't matter that you believe your interventions to be highly moral. That makes no difference to the father of dead children who see's U.S. stamped on the missile fragments.
That makes no difference to the Islamic Lebanese being shot at by the M16's of the Christian Lebanese. Or to the peoples milita Hamas being shot by the M16's of Israel. It makes no difference to the repressed Iranian democrat being bombed by F-14s. It makes no difference to the Victims of the IRA. To the Koreans who were killed in their hundreds of thousand, or Vietnamese in their millions. The families of the FARC.
To them your morals are the morality of evil. Of slaughter.
The Iraqi's that were bombed on their wedding days. Those who were imprisoned without trial. Those who were kidnapped and abused. Those who had tanks drive through their gardens and houses. Those who had their schools turned into sniper postions. Those who wear torn from the arms of their loved ones in the middle of the night never to be seen again.
The Afghans you slaughtered by the thousand in the name of 911. None of them had anything to do with it. And the slaughter isn't over. We aren't finished. These peopel not only know what we have done, what we are capable of doing, they know we have no intention of stopping either.
You fired multiple cruise missiles at Osama Bin Laden's camp. If he wasn't a direct threat before then, he sure as hell was after.
You want this to be a morailty play. Good guys against bad guys. But it isn't.
Tthe forces of light against the forces of darkness. But it isn't.
These people have reason to want you dead. Deadly serious reason.
King Chimp has to get one more foreign attack/invasion in before he leaves office and goes back to eating bananas in his tree of love. Iran? Nah Syria! As long as its another country!
