What happens when you die? (can't find the answer)

SupderDSupderD Member Posts: 243

So, in darkfall, when you die, the killer (or is it ANYONE?) can loot you.

But, what happens when I respawn?  I mean.. we'll all be new players to start, and I won't have an extra sword or reagents or an axe or a staff in the bank.. so.. am I just.. well dead?  Should I delete and restart?do I get more stuff to start?

Your basic starting materials like a dagger will stay when you respawn..

You need to play safe and not venture too far away from town until you have extra gear stored for when you do get killed.

Your character gets deleted and 1200v get sent directly to your nipples. What? You didn't realize how hardcore this game is?

jk, I would assume you start with nothing, and could probably loot your own corpes since it will still be there for the looting, unless you already got looted.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike

Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

Death is harsh in this game.  I suggest not joining this game for about a week after it releases if you're worried about getting killed a thousand times right when you start, the initial gankfest will probably die out quickly.

You'll respawn with your starter gear i believe, so re-rolling wouldnt be better.  Take it slow at first, dont travel to far from a bank, begin some savings, and venture out as you build more, or just go out in nothing and explore, if you die, no big deal.

You'll learn to love worrying about you character dying, it brings more to the game than dying just to travel faster like today's games.

If losing video game items makes you stress out or "feel like i've accomplished nothing" is a typical term you use, then Darkfall might be hard to get used to.

Hopefully they can deliver, beta leaks will probably be coming soon if beta started today.

No one knows. Don't waste your time trying to find real information about the game mechanics. The info doesn't exist.

im guessing death will be right along the same lines as death was in UO. if you got killed by a player they took whatever was on you that was worth a crap. if you got killed by a creature you just ran out and looted your own corpse. so is it open world PvP in this game or are there zones?

Open world pvp, there are NO safe areas.  There are consequences for killing people in cities, faction hits and such, but you can still be killed there.

i remember getting dominated in UO while i was at the bank in towns looking through inventory. that always made for a good time.

Well I am not sure what happens exactly but if they stick with what they said, that Darkfall is based on some classic games like Asheron's Call.  Then I could see them useing AC's death system to an extent, where if you die you only drop some random death items.  That way you have a chance to lose that sword of yours or your armor but it isn't 100%.  I could be wrong but I could see it being that way.

To answer your questions about dropping everything, even AC didn't do that your starter clothes and weapon never dropped.

I don't care if I die, I just don't see how I'm supposed to keep playing if, when I start, I get killed and looted.. and I don't have anything to fight back with.  Doesn't seem logical. (I know,  when I'm higher level, I'll have more stuff.. but that's later on.. jsut to start.. not having the newb sword makes me useless.. )

you have to remember the races are on opposite sides of the map it would take hours for someone to run to you and kill you, unless its someone of your race who wants to be considered a murderer lol

I would imagine that you would respawn with at least some basic equipment. I haven't played AC or UO, but I know that in Eve, when you die, they give you a rookie ship.

    My philosophy is different.

I suggest playing non stop from day one in order to advance your skills and acquire better armor and weapons so you are more powerful than most in order to increase your survivability. Also knowledge equals power so the more you know about the game world and the more comfortable you are with the game mechanics, the better your chances of avoiding being ganked will be.

Ganking never dissipates in a PvP world. Keep in mind there are faction and alignment results for playerkilling.

Well I dont know how it actually works in DF but I reckon you should damn well lose everything and when you miraculously come back to life in the nearest temple or whatever, you are dressed in an old robe and thats it.

.......actually.......no sod the robe. You dont get anything at all. You respawn stark bollock naked.

You can however get a robe and put it on if there is one handy I suppose. There might be nice neat piles of clothing stacked nearby. Maybe the citizens of DF have become so used to endless numbers of naked people appearing at particular places that they started to stockpile old clothes in little sheds.......or if the respawn point is in a temple then they are all tucked nicely away in drawers.

You will have to wander to the nearest bank to get some money out. There wont be much as you only started adventuring an hour ago. You've probably got about 50p, 5 badger skulls and a soiled loincloth. As you draw near to the bank you will see the huddled gathering of other naked players all looking miserable and upset in the rain.

But yeah I dont think DF will be that harsh........but they bloody well should! You should start with nothing but your savings and your potentially unlooted corpse. You should also have a massively crippling revival sickness for 30 minutes just to put the boot in even further. Oh and when I say revival sickness I dont mean a slight reduction in stats......I mean you're really f**king sick! Your movement speed is down to 10%, you are effected by the drunkeness effect, you can only carry small amounts of stuff and you occasionally black out randomly every few minutes.......and if someone kills you again in this weakened state then you die a horrible death and your character gets deleted. There will be a great animated cutscene though which shows your character being slaughtered. It wont let you save it so this will be the last time you will ever see your beloved uber character.

They probably wont do that though. I expect they just give you free stuff.

    What he said.

Unlike what that troll a few posts above declared, it's easy to find that they have already said that when you die, you respawn with the starting gear you get when you create your character. Which should be enough.

And for the love of god, one of the selling points of DF is that it's a Full Loot, FFA PVP MMO. That means that  when you respawn, you don't keep retain anything on you from the stuff you were carrying when you died.

I doubt we'll be seeing a 'gankfest' on release, because everyone starts at their racial capital/newbie zone, zones that are heavily guarded by NPCs. Think CONCORD from EVE online.

Yes, you can attack people anywhere, but you'll probably end up an arrow pin-cushion 0.3 seconds after you do. A few seconds later, and you'll be respawning halfway across the map at a neutral city because you're no longer allowed back in your race's capital.

Heres how you get around it. Anytime you come across a piece of gear that you can use but already have, bank it asap. Try to keep as much extra gear in your bank as possible to offset losing what you can.

Dont be afraid to pvp if you see the opportunity, what better way to keep your bank full of extra gear than take it from other people?

I don't really know what happens when we die.

Oh, you mean in Darkfall? I still don't know because I don't play it.

    OP:

Your character is deleted and your game subscription is terminated.

How's THAT for hardcore? On a more serious note, I have no idea though you'r said to loose all your items you wear including armor and weapons.

We still don't know if you lose any gold you were carrying. I vaguely recall them saying you don't, but I can't be bothered to trawl the warcry dev journals to check.

It's not like it'll matter. From the sounds of things, uber gear doesn't give you a huge advantage. 2 players with average gear is more powerful than 1 player with uber gear, for example, and average gear will be relatively cheap and plentiful. Respawn at your guild's city/racial capital and you'll never run out of gear.

So long as you get out of the WoW mindet of 'gear makes the player', full-loot doesn't really make much of a difference.

I meant it isn't going to make a difference in the sense that you won't be spending all your time in game looking for new gear, you can just respawn, grab new armor+weapons and go. Context is key here.

It'll obviously be different, because gear won't make the player. Or if it does make the player, it'll make them dead very shortly afterwards as they get mobbed outside town for their shiny armor.

They'll do iot just to piss people off. They'll stop once others becone skilled up enough to take the fun out of it.

It really depends, with everyone wearing loincloths and wielding daggers on launch day, you might not be able to kill someone in a town faster than the guards can turn you into a human pinata.

When you die, everything (this includes gold, inventory, and equipped items) you were carrying remains where you died in a tombstone which anyone can loot. You respawn with just the starter gear. Oh, and mobs will loot anything that they can use (which they keep until they die) from you. Thus, if you die, don't expect to get anything that you had with you back.

I am a skeptical supporter of DF. I am not a fanboi nor a troll. I seek the truth in every discussion, and I am truly sorry if I mistakenly state a fallacy.
