My perfect server setup would be either a one server fits all ( like in EVE ) with different language chat channels or 4 or 5 servers stating if they are US, EU or International but still be open to all.
As for having individual servers for EU and UK players, this has to be the worst idea I've ever heard a mmo publisher come up with.
/Sarcasm_on
Hey guys sure why not set up individual servers for north and south America...and Canada...hey how about Australia...and if you do that then there's New Zealand and then there's all those little independent islands out there....Oh wait Cuba!
i wonder why no one of the spellborn team has put any new and clear information about it on the site.. all they did was make a news post about releasing 2 wallpapers....
I think they are trying the ol " Funcom" routine ... lets brush it under the the carpet and it will go away ... the ludicrous decisions some of these companys make are sometimes beyond belief .

Ok this is not official yet,it is maybe just a rumor but it is now being said that any european country not listed at the bottom will be run by Acclaim, not sure if that will mean they also can only play on US servers and not with the rest of Europe.
Germany
• Austria
• Switzerland
• France
• The Netherlands
• Belgium
• Luxembourg
• Sweden
• Norway
• Denmark
• Finland
As you can see the like's of Spain and Italy are not on the list.
Like I said this hasnt been made official yet but if it is then this is just going from bad to worse.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

This! And the IP Blocking has already begun, as UK players seem now already to be redirected to the Acclaim site now according to the last post by a UK player on the TCOS forums.
I have never ever seen such a stupid stupid deal in breaking up the UK and the rest of europe from eachother an throw UK players on US servers with time differences of 5 to 8 hours!
It's just financial suicide already and the game hasn't even released lol.
But then again.... These days.... nothing suprises me anymore.

wow if its right that all european countries not on that list are going to be blocked to, damn... (even though i think i read somewhere they would only block UK)
i mean there are 48 countries in Europe, 49 if you include Vatican City. and there is 10 on that list...

It's all about money! Frogster appearently doesn't have that much connection with Europe and has it's largest client base in Asia. Hence they also provide the Asian Launch of TCOS.
So appearently Acclaim saw a lot of $$$ signs in their eyes and grabbed the UK in their licence deal.
Altho anyone with some functioning braincells in their head would have known this is not going to work!
1. You got mixed gaming communities, large guilds, etc who consists of many UK players together with other European players. They will now all skip this game because of this stupid deal!
2. Time differences between UK and US. Ranging from 5 up to 8 hours!
So yes, you are correct somewhat. They blew a lot of potential players and thus money ..right into the water!
Considering how long the game has been in development I'm guessing money was getting pretty tight over at TcoS HQ and this publishing deal could have been the thing saving the game from certain death anywhere, we don't know.
If that was the scenario then given the choice of either no game at all or a game that will alienate a few thousand players but does actually exist, I guess we couldn't really blame them for not wanting to waste all the blood sweat and tears that has gone into this.
Following on from that then yes they must have known this was coming and have built a special flame proof shelter where they are now safely buried away ignoring the angry voices around them, they are probably as unhappy about it as we are and obviously have no real control of their game anymore.
I'm more likely to be forgiving of the Devs if that above scenario is true.
Just for future reference though if any other companies are thinking about something like this, I believe I can still say with confidence
IT'S STUPID!
There will be no subscription from me, even if I loved Spellborn I wouldnt want to encourage any other companies going down this road.
If it doesn't change they will have lost a few thousand subscribers, I hope the ones that wont miss their UK/EU mates prove enough to keep them afloat (I wouldnt wish failure on such a good looking game even if I am pissed off myself)

You said that Mindscape and Frogster will be IP blocking the UK. If that is not a lie I don't know what is.
Although, I see now that you probably made an honest mistake. In that case I apologise for calling you a liar. I was getting a bit fed up about all the misinformation being spread and I should not have been so hasty in my judgement.

And many more European countries are not listed. How many Europen countries are there? And how long is the list? Is it not just that many European countries will have no distributor, which is not a big deal when you can download the game?
Seriously, i wont even bother with the game. A developer making this decision is not a developer i want to trust with a game that potentialy is a big time investment.
But guys please.. It's not the devs call. Blame Frogster and Acclaim.
No really, the devs are great guys, its not their choice, I am 100% sure about it.
You are 100% wrong. Spellborn had to agree to ALL of the terms of the contract to publish the game. You can't go into a binding contract with someone and then say "Oh, by the way, now that you've signed with us, we're going to be changing a lot of things not in the contract." No. All of the IP blocking was agreed upon by Spellborn before anything was signed.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
I was already getting put off by some of the things I have been hearing from beta testers. But this decision is the deciding factor for me, I wont buy this game, I dont really see the point of trying it knowing this.
I have always played with other europeans, most of the people from the guilds I have been in are Dutch, German, French, and Swedish. It is such a strange decision that I thought it was a typo at first ><
It is very unlikely that the petitions so far will work, and even if they did does it really matter? They have made a very bad decision in my opinion, so what is to say they will not make more decisions equally as stupid in the future?
It sounds like from the beta reviews that this game would of needed quite a bit of work after release but was going to start off with a reasonably solid base.
I can not honestly say I trust these guys to rise to that challenge if this is an example of their management.
I do not agree that the developers had no idea about this, I am 100% sure they would of known this from the letter of intent that they said they recieved months ago.
It is a shame, I have seen stupid decisions like this before for mmos or any game releases and the result is always the game dying, or running on life support like POTBS for instance.
What the biggest shame is if this game fails it will be another game that is trying to be innovative that has failed for whatever reason. Which will just incourage more developers not to innovate which can only hurt the industry.

Its all about the MONEY!! Greedy bastards can't get enough of them...they will never have enough of them

this game looks promising...but they picked up the wrong publisher....sad that such stupid people has the power to to ruin such a good game!
