In the quoted words of Tasos:

"We'll do the same for any professional gaming media that's interested to come here and get a hands-on experience of the game."

So, to end maybe 1 or 2 arguments in this section, I ask the following:

1. Has mmorpg.com contacted Tasos for access to the beta to do a preview/review?

2 a). If you have, were you contacted back? Were you given permission or denied?

2 b). If you have not contacted them, why not?

Good thread.  Basically you are asking what a lot of us started thinking when we read the update today.

My assumption for 2b. would be that if right now they are only accepting media that comes to their studio, then that may be the reason its not possible right now.

Please for the love of god keep this thread civil because I think both fans and skeptics would enjoy hearing one of the staff here answer these questions.

Yea nice thread Zorvan... Ill be keepin an eye on this one for a respnse from Admin..

Nice thread indeed. An overview by MMORPG.COM would provide legitamcy to the game, and since the game is supposed to release in December, legitamcy is sorely needed at this point.

Game reviews are on-site  I do believe is what our lord tasos said.

I actualy support this thread. Would be nice to know if MMORPG.com staff have made the same attempt as the Italian MMORPG site and if not why. I mean MMORPG.com does get a good deal of cash for all these advertisements that are plasterd everywhere lol, so money can't exactly be the excuse.

If anyone other than Richard 'Konou' Cox did the interview, I'd conder it worthless.

Sorry Jon, but I think you're a bit much under Craigs wing nowadays, and this site is no longer known for its impartiality.

  • mrw0lfmrw0lf Member Posts: 2,269

At this point JoeNobody popping over there, getting a decent amount of play time (and some ingame footage to back it up) and posting back here would do wonders. The thing is, if I run this site and was told if I wanted to do a review I had to go there and do it by their rules, would it be worth the air fare?

The scepticism surrounding this game is not just from the mmo fans and is in fact most likely much greater in those used to working in the industry in a certain way. Given this devs team's history, if it were your money, would you pay?

I have abosultely zero to do with site content and it has been that way for over 3 years.  All I do here is setup advertising and arrange for contests or key giveaway events and manage the day to day business tasks.

Darwa - I am not sure where you are pulling your "facts" from but Jon's role in the site is unchanged.  To be honest other than a few emails each week him and I rarely converse.

As for Darkfall - I too think it would be great if Jon gets a hands-on feature for MMORPG.com - I think it would be a big traffic draw and satisfy the curiosities of the community here.  I will ping Jon to see if he has approached the developer on this one.

    In a heartbeat.

The marketing work I do is in a different industry, and I dont know the details of how this site conducts its revenue but I would assume that if they were to have the first "mainstream" handson on review of the beta of this highly talked about game...it would cover the travel costs instantly.

Every fan, hater, whatever of DF would be on the site to read it as soon as word got out.

edit: sigh got beat by the admin =)  so yea what he said

I’ve been asking VPellen to enquire about arranging this in the Darkfall beta NDA sticky.

This would be a great way to finally settle this issue, if someone objective and professional from MMORPG previews / reviews public beta is would be a win win for all concerned in my opinion.

  • It would be a huge credibility boost to the game to have an independent first hand review.

  • PolarizationPolarization Member Posts: 1,410

    Only problem is:

We'll do the same for any professional gaming media that's interested in coming here to get hands-on experience of the game. We will allow media wider access to the beta soon enough, but for now this can only happen on site.

So currently they would have to travel to Athens.

Thanks for responding. It's good  to know you're still around even though I dislike the direction you're taking this site. /slap /burn /whack

I'll thank you to notice that I drew upon no facts at all (perceived or otherwise), but merely stated my opinion. The change in Jons approach is obvious (I feel) and geared towards what the public wish to hear, and I hope you'll forgive me in assuming that it was upon your influence.

I am unsure what you mean about our change in direciton.  How did we change our direction as a website?

Contrary to what all the people post - this site is 100% impartial, unless my employees have some hidden agendas that I am unaware of - as the person who sells 100% of the ad space here I assure you that no favors are ever given for purchasing advertising...not that it is not tried by advertisers (normally small ones not large companies) - I would never allow this on MMORPG.com - ever.

We're not talking about an interview here. Interviews have been done to death in regards to Darkfall. Interviews are nothing but the words of the developer, and Tasos has provided pages of words over the years that all amount to the same thing: Darkfall is great because I'm telling you it is.

This is about getting mmorpg.com staff into the closed beta so they can play the actual game and report as such back to us.

As for the comment about impartiality, I can say that in my experience Stradden, Admin, and the others at mmorpg.com have in fact been too impartial in many instances. Anyone familiar with the Thrones of Chaos/Mourning and DnL fiascos will attest to this. If mmorpg.com was not neutral, those idiots would have been off this site and out the door long before they were.

As for whom to send, I'd have no problem with Cox going. Or any other staff member with good writing skills with experience in reviewing games fairly for what they are, good or bad included.

You changed the direction when you started flooding this site with advertisements and user-created content. This is irrelevant to the thread subject, so let's not discuss this hear. If you'd like to hear my views on this, then I'm more than willing to share, so please contact me via pm.

We have always stuck to the basic three ads per page - with the exception of the new home page and game list "skins" we do now this is still the same.  We have to make profits or we will shut the site down.  We have 6 full time employees to pay, massive hosting costs, equipment, travelling costs, and the list goes on and on.

User content is what the people want - and we need to compete.  This is a business, make no mistake - but an honest one.  We will always take the site in the direction we feel the community wants - and blogs guild systems and galleries are all things we need to do to compete in our market.

Fair point. I've always respected your input, and I continue to do so.

As for DnL, well, I can't comment about their interaction with this site, but I know that AD spent well over their budget. to be honest, I don't recall either DnL or Mourning having that great an appearance here.

  • I would just like to see a review from someone that has played the game for at least a few hours and has nothing to do with the game.

    Reported for being off-topic!

I'm sorry, but I just had to do that.

But I'd love to see MMORPG.com be the first major site to get some exposure to the mysteries of DF.
