"For beginners getting started, veterans leveling up, players starting alts, or anyone trying to get more out of the game, using SC to purchase in-game items is for everyone. The items available offer new and experienced players alike convenience, customization and fun while providing a unique gameplay experience. Convenience items include potions of various types, from health to experience boosts. Several appearance packs in various armor types make up the customization category. Then for fun, we offer a selection of pets for your house or as travel companions."

This is definitly a BAD move and NOW it would not suprise me if they WILL put it in SWG,

...............more >  SoE StationCash going full out Cash Shop.  at the pub.

  • It's already there in the form of gambling for loot cards.

Outright sale of items is actually a more honest way to do this than the TCG.

Anyone else get the impression that SOE is absolutely DESPERATE for cash of any kind?

    lol I can't argue that.

But obviously it seems not only core game mechanics are off limits to drastic changes. Apparently so is the business model!

Well if they are desperate for cash ... they've just lost mine, I feel totally betrayed ,this is disgusting. I fear that other greedy companies may just jump on the Bandwagon if SOE get away with this.

This is why we former players stay out there to make sure SOE sufferes the maximum possible damage to reputation and finances over the NGE, to make sure no one else ever thinks that a NGE is something that could ever work.

Well I'll be honest I've never been the greatest fan of you guys .... but now I'm just not sure of anything anymore ... I know we dont all always agree on these forums but we are all here because we love Mmo's in one form or another... What SOE are doing is disgraceful and even more so now that money is so tight for everyone with the Credit Crunch.

Bad day for Mmo's and I'm humbled to say it you guys were right all along .........

...I'm not surprised to see that many people are upset with this being sprung upon them with little to no notice.

    This sounds eerily familiar.

Well...the CCG was out about ...a year ago? before SOE put the TCG into SWG, kinda feeling SOE is getting data on HOW the card game worked for EQ1/2 then placed it into SWG, probebly the same will happen if their data sees it working in EQ1/2 I have no doubt they will put it in SWG......UNFORTUNALY.

Like I said in the first reply, very BAD move from SOE part. especially when they have 3 new titles coming soon, this will again create noise around the internet in a NOT positive way, I am sure of it.

I came to the same conclusion myself, about C6CD.

With all the different occasions that $OE has done things to SWG, it's really hard to mount a defence for them, on anything, anymore.

I'm really surprised SOE didn't first test this new business model out on their old whipping boy SWG, where they seem to do all of their experimenting, before putting it into a game they actually care about. Odd.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

That's the best part of the whole thing.  They patched it in the live game without ever mentioning it to their customers.  The backlash must be noticeable account cancellation wise, since the Smed crawled out of his cave to claim it isn't RMT (something he said just a year ago would never be implemented on a non-exchange server), since he has redefined RMT to be players buying items from other players for real money, as opposed to the actual definition of just buying items for real money.

Good thing the folks at SOE have learned that lesson about communication since the NGE.

Keep in mind though, much like the TCG for SWG, this new service is likley to generate more revenue for EQ2 than the monthy sub fees currently do.

  • SOE may be doing this because without the ca$h grab from their existing titles they might not have the funds to finish the 3 games they have in production...

It's either pure greed (plausible) or pure desperation (also plausible).

Typical SOE.  Their own shennanigans and incompetence chase people away from their games, so they turn back on their loyal customers and soak them to make up the difference.  Just proving that SOE is not a company to do business with.

I suspect SOE is in a desperate situation right now with Sony HQ looking to cut/slash unprofitable divisions and make layoffs where possible.

We aren't going to be allowing RMT in any way, shape or form on the non-exchange enabled EQ II servers. Period. End of statement.

In any event, I wanted to stop in and at least set the record straight - you aren't going to be seeing RMT allowed on the non-exchange enabled servers.

What I hate is they all complain about it and yet they'll still buy all this crap while complaining. You know if you just stopped giving them money then they'll stop doing it.

ROFL!  Typical Smed.  The man is a damn liar.  Remember he told us that they'd be making the CU better, and that it was "here to stay" and that it was done so they could "add a lot of content really fast" to the game.  Instead they were actually working on the NGE.

DO WE NEED ANY MORE PROOF PEOPLE?  Smed is a liar and a swindler.  SOE is a dishonest company, their word means NOTHING.

I bet his defense will be he "meant" player gained RMT.  Now SOE gained RMT...CHACHING!!!

Sony needs to cut just one job and send the dismissal note straight to its recipient at jsmedley@soe.sony.com

SOE would be 100x better off, and probably have 10x the subscribers if this would have happened 4 years ago.

  • Smed long ago ran SOE into the ground, and his plan to get them out of that so far has involved nothing but digging them INTO the ground deeper.

Today they don't have in subs across ALL their games what SWG had in 2005.  Back then SWG had less subs than EQ1/2 but far more than both combined have now.  SWG's subs likely aren't even significant enough to compare to EQ now.
