And I'm still pissed off about it.
The most frustrating part is not being able to find a game that has anywhere near what SWG used to offer.
I think the fact that it has been so long and so many of us are still mad shows a lot for how special this game was to it's players.
How you guys feeling?
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike

I still hate that they did it. It is their game, though, and they are entitled to screw it up as much as they want. I'm not still going around foaming at the mouth over it. I've moved to other games and am still looking for a game that has the complete package of a world as opposed to "just a game". That said, I will continue to voice the opinion that they aren't worth the dirt on the bottom of my shoes as a developer when the conversation comes to their credentials as a modern game company.
Some people don't like to hear that because they are still playing one of SOE's games. The record and fact, however, speak for themselves.
1) SOE marketed and took money for the ToOW expansion.
2) SOE, after ToOW launched, the following week I think it was, told every subscriber that they had a week before the NGE change was being applied to the game.
3) SOE initially attempted to keep people from getting their refunds for ToOW. They then offered refunds in a muted manner and on a very, very short time frame. The initial reaction, for me, speaks volumes.
Lucas Arts is to blame as well, in my opinion, and overall it was a very crappy way to treat paying customers. There is, however, no statute of limitations after which people are mandated to give SOE a break. They did what they did knowingly and must live with the stigma they created. It is my opinion that if they believed in the NGE as much as they said they did they would have announced its introductions a month or two before it went live just like every other company announces such big events, like expansions. They didn't. They didn't because they knew it is not what the majority of their subscribers wanted, and the subsequent fallout and loss of subscriptions proves thus.
So yeah, I don't spend my days wishing hate on them. Everytime, however, a game site announces something new from them I give it the obligatory 4-5 seconds of "I hope it fails" thought and click on to the next news information.

I want pre-CU back
Station.com : We got your game
Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!
Other than the odd pang of missing the game i've been over it for a long while..funny thing though when the shithouses shafted EQ2 last week with the cash shop malarky i did get a strong sense of deja vu
well im kinda over it, but then again im not completely over it, cous i cant find a game that has the pre cu standard, and i dont mean as deep, but as fun
keep thinking back, god i had a good time, i hope the time will come again
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
I wished i tried it back in the day. Mostly its Sony's fault no lucas. But hey, im waiting for the old republic, and hopefully it will be as good.
i hear alot of bad things about that game, all tho i want it to be good, :-(

Im also still pissed about the NGE.
But its not really the NGE by itself, its about stupid people doing stupid things..and "getting away with it" (SOE). What if they had spent all those working hours in bugfixing and new features instead of the NGE? We would had the best MMO ever.
I quit SWG before JTL was online. If you asked me in those days, I'd fervently say it needed fixing... But by no means would I imagine the sort of "fix" SOE tried to pull!
Now I find myself not missing the game per se, but missing its sense of freedom and social interaction. To this day I have found few games to match it on those points (granted, EVE is very good and I do play it, but I'd like a game where I can see my avatar and walk on planets as well. Not to mention EVE feels totally different as a game, despite being sandboxy). Trying the NGE recently, I decided it's not that bad a game in itself, but it's nowhere special like old SWG was.
So would I take old SWG back? No, I don't think so. Not as it was when I left it. But I'll be very happy to see the same sort of freedom in a new sci-fi MMO. An inter-galactic one where we get to play both in outer space and on planet surfaces would be nice, while you're at it!
See I tried the Emu and I hated it because from what was there all the flaws of SWG back in the old days came flooding back. That isn't to say SWG was a bad game because it wasn't, it just was broken and needed fixing. I loved everything about the core game mechanics like the profession system, crafting and player housing but it was all broken like comp armour and doctor buffs. The problem is there fixes are sooo obvious to see but SOE/LA chucked that away a long time ago and the Emu fans want it to be the same as it was. I find the pre cu fans to be rather imature and annoying because you present them with fixes that don't change the core mechanics but make it more fun and they start flaming you like a 12 year old whose had one too many sherbets. Then now theres even more problems because things like collision not in the game and no Z-Axis just limit the possibilities for future content and just make the game feel soo old and unplayable.
So for me SWG was a great idea that just was never realised and wont ever be.
A lot of the things people state that they miss are still in SWG today, crafting, player cities etc.
Popular systems like the 32 Profession/250 skill point system is gone, in its place is 9 Profession/45 point Expertise and buff stacking to further customise your character.
SWG still provides a sandbox environment for those that don't want the more mainstream route of questing/levelling etc, the storyteller system is also pretty good for allowing players to make their own content.
All that said, if you are still angry at SoE after three years then I doubt there is much that can be done to change that.
Kinda over it myself. Sure, I mean, I help with two sites whose members commonly bash SOE (you think wildcat's harsh - you should trying hanging out with a bunch of ex rangers sometime), archive PreCU data, keep up to the minute updates on the various emus and haunt this board but other than that I have moved on.
Hehe, funny story though. I was up north about 2 months ago and visiting a friend at his apartment complex. We were standing out in the hallway and I made a comment about my friend who was standing there looking stupid and called him a Smed. So two doors down, this guy was leaving his apartment and locking his door...he looks up and starts going off about the NGE. Comes over and covers his whole story of how his profession was wiped out and how much he hated the game now.
Bonding moment. Kinda like that Hardies commercial with the sandwiches.
Crafting is a joke compared to what it once was, you are now basically making items with fixed stats now. They removed the last vestiges of the old crafting system with the recent "revamp". Loot is king and is going to remain king so long as SOE wishes to sell it via TCG gambling and possibly this station RMT scheme.
The profession system which WAS most of the game is completely gone. There is very little real choice in the dumbed down talent point system because every profession has an obvious best build which to vary from is to gimp yourself.
Anything of the sandbox of SWG that is left is the result of an oversight or accident.
And, how can you blame us for still being too mad to do business with SOE? It's not as if they have done anything in the last 3 years to make good on the wrong they did back in 2005. Indeed, even if they DID suddenly come to their senses (or decide to do it as a cynical last ditch cash grab) and do classic, I'd NOT SUBSCRIBE. Simply put, SOE has seen the last cent ever from me no matter what they do at this point. I tried the game out in the recent trial and found it no better than it was a year and a half ago when I quit. Some things in fact are even worse.
Given that 90% of the pre NGE population left and haven't returned, seems I'm in the far larger majority than you are.
Mention the NGE anywhere in EVE and you get the same thing. A TON of EVE players are ex SWG. Indeed, EVE had it's most rapid sub growth right after the NGE.
EVE isn't pre-CU, but it's the closest thing to it out there.
and then there are those who whined that they hated the game but paid for multiple accounts over 6 months
Yes, very hard to find a game these days that is so horribly bug ridden, that had horrible game design choices which got worse with every patch, and which had virtually no compelling content, let alone anything that had much to do with Star Wars.

this was true for a long time. But after the series of game updates, professions received more expertise diversity. There are now several good choices... smuggler alone has about 8 viable expertise builds depending on your playstyle.
its not perfect but its a hell of a lot better than other MMOs

there are a ton of players in every game I play who are ex-SWG. Even the new kids who are just starting out in MMOs know about the Doom that Came to SWG. Word gets around.

i am still mad i have been bouncing from MMO to MMO spending money i would have been more then happy to give that Dark lord of online gaming "$atan Online Entertainment" -SOE-
i'm over SWG, i'm not over SOE's decision to launch the NGE. Playing the emu reminded me of the things i hated about SWG. Like needing to be buffed before you did common things like EQUIP ARMOR. And the HAM bar is unbalanced as well ruining my expireince
Playing: EVE Online
Favorite MMOs: WoW, SWG Pre-cu, Lineage 2, UO, EQ, EVE online
Looking forward to: Archeage, Kingdom Under Fire 2

It's that profession system that everyone loved though and it was much better than what is in place today. It just made no sense for them to get rid of it because they said it was too complex for newer players and still say that when SWG isn't getting new players and when theres far more complex system in SWG still today that'll boggle new players minds.

Smuggler itself was never viable, and isn't from what I still hear.
Jedi certainly has less diversity now than it had before it's change (I quit before the change and had a split light/dark setup), now you basically have 2 choices: PVE: all light side. PVP: all dark side.
Simply put they can't and wont re-open the skills system because this Dev team is completely incapable of dealing with complexity.
