WoW already did the "take something from every other game that the majority of people enjoy and mash it all together" schtick. And Blizzard enjoys the fluke success.
Darkfall takes everything from other games that very few people like and mashes it all together. The fluke in Aventurines' case will be if they last more than a year without changing the game to something the majority would actually pay for.
Darkfall takes everything from other games that very few people like and mashes it all together.
There is roughly a quarter million UO fans out there, combined with all the AC fanbase, along with many WoW players who have become bored and are looking for something different.
I wouldn't call that "very few people". A MMORPG doesn't need Millions of subscribers to be successful.

And I'm betting at least half of those players only pay attention to Darkfall long enough to laugh. And a big portion of that "quarter million fans" of UO are post-Trammel fans, not pre. If DF even manages to grab AND RETAIN 10% of those games players, it'll be a miracle.
And I'm betting at least half of those palyers only pay attention to Darkfall long enough to laugh. If DF even manages to grab AND RETAIN 10% of those games players, it'll be a miracle.
......... And let me guess, your basing these thoughts on the mystical knowledge that Darkfall will not offer everything it says it will offer? Please, if you know something we all don't, let us know. Otherwise keep your mouth shut unless you have evidence to back up your thoughts.
Noone it saying its revolutionary. Actually what seems to draw most to it is the similarities DF has with some very old mmo's. Point isnt that its OMG so next-gen. It's that its going back to what was fun b4 the WOW, WAR, AOC and other crap mmo formula took over allowing every kid no matter how dumb to excel in. DF is bringing it back to a cold world where you might be good you might suck but not every will be OMG UBER LEETS!!
Of course people, like me, have preconceptions about what an MMORPG is. This is based on the games we have played and others we haven't played but we know about them after reading or talking with people that have played them.
In my understanding a MMORPG is a complex game with several different aspects, people tend to be attracted more for ones than for others, for some may be the combat aspect, for others the adventure, the social aspect, the game oriented toward group aims, the crafting and so. Write here whatever you want.
I agree with you that the developers of a MMORPG game (or any other game) have to feel free to design the game just guided by the concept they have about it and/or their objectives. They can put more or less weight in each aspect of the game to build their whole package.
Gamers are free too, to decide if they are going to play that whole package according their preferences.
And I'm betting at least half of those palyers only pay attention to Darkfall long enough to laugh. If DF even manages to grab AND RETAIN 10% of those games players, it'll be a miracle.

To be honest I doubt darkfall can deliver *everything* it promises. At least not in a highly polished state upon release. Though like VG there will be an acceptable threshold. God help us all if DF delivers significantly less than its extensive list of features. Nothing will save it then. Like all MMO releases it gets once chance and once chance only. The responsiblity is seriously on the DF dev now. I'd hope they are working over christmas as the next weeks will make or break DF. If you think this is bad then look at VG which is still for 90% of its orginal subscribers a "no go" MMO.
Anyways as for evidence its ok to post subjective opinions. Zorvan is being confrontational but he is still allowed an opinion (he does say IF in his text).
What is it with you people and needing hard facts (especially since hard facts and DF don't appear often!). Or are we treating this like a court room. In which case DF is already on trial ?!? Rather than prattle about evidence then disagree and give a reason why you disagree ( and it doesn't even need facts!)
Actually, I have high hopes for most of the features they have to offer. A lot of beta testers are saying it's ready for release, and has been for some time (Don't ask me who I spoke to :P). DarkFall has no money to market the game - not to mention they've decided to be fairly tight on release information. These guys don't appear to be just another developer with their sights ONLY on the money. Obviously they aren't so worried about their financials, otherwise they would work a lot harder in marketing the game.
I too, hope this game will be all that it is said to be. But I probably have more faith in the game than many, but I've done my research and reading; the game looks promising. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!!!

Here's some.. Oh.. you'll love this..

The problem I have with this though is now instead of bots and your typical MMO hacks, you'll have wall hacks and other FPS hacks.
Probably not.
I don't imagine most of the game being kept client side. Most likely server side. So, an aimbot/wall hack type program wouldn't work because it wouldn't be able to see where the other client is (In most FPS games, the server sends all of the information to the client, the client just shows what the server tells it)

Not really as you may notice that both of the examples included some element that is a game. I far as I can tell your idea of revolutionary is that it must not include anything that uses any existing idea unless you personally think that aspect is exempt. So it boils down to if you personally think it's revolutionary it is, otherwise it isn't.
I dont think he'd understand your explanation. It would mean thinking outside of the box which most troll are unable to do.
Yes, because being a bandwagoning fanboi lemming who takes everything thats said about DFO at face value is definately thinking outside the box.
Marketing execs would love people like you, advertising would be a cinch if people are chump enough to just say "Yes master, we will buy your product with no questions asked."
You are the last person that should be making glib comments about thinking outside the box.
P.S. Its people who are willing to question the mainstream who are actually thinking outside the box. If the world were filled with people like you, wed probably still think that Darwins theory of evolution was wrong.
Yes, thats right. Im a bandwagoning fanboi cause the game sounds interesting to me. Give me Kool-aid!!!
Question the mainstream? I didn't know darkfall was so mainstream.
Dont get so angry, we already know your the man to go to when it comes to logical questioning of video games.

What MMO's now are on server side? Everyone I knowof is on client and gets hacks and bots over time. I've been saying for a while that mmo's should be on the server instead of client but no MMO has done it yet.
Here's all I have to say about hacks in games: The amount an MMO gets hack is inversely proportional to the quality of the product and the motivation of the coders.
Good code sanitizes hacks. Plain and simple. Its usually just too expensive or not bothersome enough to hotfix. Its not about the hackers. They're always gonna be there on every game. The devs already know what they're up against in that arena... its up to them to pull their weight.
The ultimate solution to every problem: more space marines.
So, after reading the Noob Reviews I thought I'd post my own insight on a different thread, as both of those threads seem to .. well step away from the OP. It seems Darkfall is going more and more away from a typical MMORPG with full loot, and more into a persistent FPS, sort of like a continuing CoD4 map, that just doesn't end, but instead of guns, you have swords. Then, after reading about "power ups" and "Skills you purchase" it is becoming less and less interesting. The way I'm seeing Darkfall now is just another PlanetSide, but instead of blasters and guns, you have the swords and spells. Horses are vehicles and the like. The biggest difference in actual play is the addition of dropping your 'cool gear' when you die. Now, how is this revolutionary?
It's not at all like CoD4, its like Shadowbane, the only best mmo ever made so far. (if you don't like pve that is) and it's revolutionary because it's only the second mmo out of 540 trillion to offer REAL pvp.

Ummm, so you're saying WoW and WAR, and Lineage 2, the 3 biggest MMO's have poor coding? So far no MMO is hackproof.
I can say the same for FPS', COD4, Halo3, and and Team Fortress also all have hacks. Those are poorly coded too?

Bots are different than hacks though.. bots analyze the code and pretty much.. send keystrokes back. Was there ever an aimbot for planetside?
