"I defy anyone to name a single MMO that had more information, screen shots, videos and developer updates released then Darkfall has this close to launch."

    All of them

Because all gaming mags are whores. If you don't pay for them/use mountains of money to advertize your product in their magazine, you don't exist.

Darkfall hasnt been very forthcoming with information from the very beginning. And if you ask Tasos he's very deceptive. He was recently asked why it took so long for Darkfall to get to this point. His reponse was the game was just like every other MMO in that it took 5 years to develop.
This is a lie as Darkfall has been in the works for over 7.5 years now. The game's first official announcement came on August 29, 2001. Yet somehow Tasos can state 5 years during an interview ?
When I see dishonesty and a lack of information for 7+ years, I smell serious trouble. If a indie developer lacks the funds to properly market the game you'd think they'd want all the reviews they could get for some free marketing.
Ive seen Tasos very defensive of this game. Ive seen the fans also defend this game as if it was the Holy Grail. What I havent seen is a sneak peek by anyone outside of leaked reports. What I havent seen is a box in a store with a prerelease date. Its not even posted on amazon or any other online store.
There really is only one reason why they wouldnt want a prelaunch review...
crossing my fingers but all signs point to someting just not right here

Because DF was COMLETELY restarted in 2003. In other words, a full 3 years of devlopment was shaved off, and the 5 years Tasos reffered to was the current game which was built up starting in 03.

Also the first three years, 2000-03, it was a complete novice project of maybe 4 people. Once they finally moved into athens and merged with already developer company, "Aventurine", This is when "Aventurine" started the project "Darkfall" From scratch.

So was Tasos lying? Well he was telling the truth because the current game from a blank computer project took him these 5 years from nothing to this.

I think there are only a few logical explanations and they are all bad.

Indie developer. They just don't do things the same way as the Corporations behind the main stream MMO's do. Well they've got until Jan 22 to prove it anyway. After that  I think it's best to adopt your pessimism. It is a digital download after all. They can make it accessible at a the flick of a switch.

You have to appreciate that Aventurine also have to protect their revolutionary next generation secrets from competitors, and they are also respecting the expressed wishes from the majority of their players base to not reveal everything about the game pre release and spoil the excitement of discovering things.
Tasos has constantly reminded us that the game is feature complete, fully tested and ready for release, and confirmed the game would be released on the 22nd, so there is absolutely nothing to be worried about as far as I'm concerned.
Aventurine still have ample time left to start and finish open beta and announce all the launch details the troll haters are whining about.

Ah the razor fine edge of sarcasm....

Are you serious? Every video of DF is edited from the same 2 crappy vids that've been out for a year. Demonstraded it comprehensively? Link or it didn't happen!

Every MMO released since Everquest. Aventurine haven't even released system specs or a purchase price yet and it's only 10 days to go!

This is your little brother posting using your account right? Or atleast that'll be the excuse come the 23rd!

Well open beta has to finish on the 21st at the latest right? Open betas start at the weekend in my experience as they're a stress test and need as many online. So it's this weekend or bust for open beta. So OB will last for the weekend and finish which is satisfactory if it weren't for the 18 gig download from bit torrent! So the client needs to be available right now if anyone is going to be there to stress test this weekend, and it ain't!

There's no point in having a pre-launch review, and most of them are AFTER open beta begins, and very close to release.

Also, when the project was announced, that was the first build. They scrapped it later entirely and started over in 2003. So it's about 5 years. But people count the first build (which is fine) in that development.

What dishonesty are you talking about?

And there aren't pre-orders, so there won't be any info on various e-retailer sites. It's feasible they are going to make it much like Eve Online, where at first they sell the game themselves.

    1. Because the game is so good that it speaks for it self and needs no introduction.

                                                         OR

    2. Because the game is going to flop and there is no point on even saying anything, like (oh look a sinking boat )

The only thing that really needs to be said is, we'll see on the 22nd.

Someone's world is going to crumble on that day, either the followers, or the trolls/haters; it will be interesting to see which it is.

Hey, did you guys see that episode of South Park where Cartman inherits a million dollars and buys his own amusement park, but closes it off to everyone else? Brilliant marketing. I'm not sure what this has to do with what we're talking about, but it was a good episode.

    I'm hungry now.

Yep.  Very good point by the OP.  If Darkfall wanted or needed FREE PRESS COVERAGE there would be no better way to get it other than by game reviews...

It is logical that the reasons no one has been allowed to review the game are not good ones.

The 2 online magazine's that I read(gamespy and C&VG)dont even list Darkfall in there release dates section, here is a link to Gamespy's..

    http://pc.gamespy.com/index/release.html

As you can see they go as far as March and no sign of Darkfall, very strange it is almost like either they dont care or dont believe it,read into that what you will.

    ^^^^ this

The reason no gaming sites are even looking at DF is because they know it is 95% vaporware.  It will have no real features (unless you count running around a map a feature), it will have huge server problems (no stress test), huge client problems(not enough beta testers and no system specs) and gameplay will be 'autoattacking mobs who have no AI'.

The only thing I'm really surprised about is that some reporter really hasn't pushed the issue and tried to expose DF as a scam.  A real journalist would have been pushing Tasos to see a playable version of the game, and would have written an article blasting DF for not having one this close to release.   Most of the 'journalists' on these sites are just game players who volunteer, so it's not surprising nobody has really put some pressure on Tasos.

I'm betting it won't be that great, but hoping it is...

Basically I'm watching with a tub of popcorn in suspense.  Either way, I won't even contemplate trying it for at least 6 months after release.

This game, concept, is nothing more then a viral marketing campaign designed to sell more Tacos.  It isn’t a real game and it isn’t coming out!!!!! Now lets all enjoy some Tacos.
