You said it for yourself.. Aoc took good scores while in the fact it was unfinished and with many bugs, and lacking gameplay issues, but it took good scores from previews/reviews.. We sre talking about billinions here mate ..
I wont say that magazines are corrupted or taking money from devs ( cough*) but im sure if certain companies qould loose subs from Df it s for their intrest to ''convince some major magazines and sites'' to say the things about DF a bit diferently .. After all as u may know many ppl before buying read magazines and sites and if the reviews are negative they dont buy the game..
Aventurine didnt had the recourses to advertise a lot or ''convince'' great sites or magazines to get busy with it as
AOC did.. All i care about is not advertising but devs instead of giving press conferences instead to focus on their product.. Thats what Aventurine seems to choose and gamers will benefit from it..

But they are corrupt, which is why I listen and read more about what players that acually played the game than magazines. I even see people on this forum that I got a big feeling they are from the company of the game in question to keep an eye on all the negative points of the game which the companies dont want mentioned. Dont listen blind, think ... Its all about money in most cases.
If you where a magazin, what to write about an game, which looks like "Unreal" (yeah, i mean the old one) with a bit more lightning? What score should a magazin give to a game which is ugly like that in these days? It's going to be a niche game with 5k + players and good selling numbers in the beginning. As soon as all the ppl will see how crappy it is and how crappy it will be playstylewise, they will run as fast as they can. Just one other "stillbirth"...time will tell.

Wrong, they get good scores from mag's because the writers get watered downed versions of the game and at most they will only play and test what the Dev's give them and the play test will only last for an hour or two.......so how can a mag give an honest review of a game in that setting....granted the mag's are at fault also for giving it a rating in the first place without fully testing the game....but they do have a dead line to get there review in. So you see the bottom line is there both at fault.

If they expect to have the players they need to pay the bills, they need to do some sort of marketing and provide the information NEEDED by gamers to make an informed decision.
What exactly is the info that is NEEDED before release and can you explain your reasons for needing it? I can't really see any info that I need personally that can't wait until the game is available for purchase.
if it's vaporware, why arent they advertisingi As much as possible? more pre orderes, more money?
Not to make you out as a COMPLETE twit.. but ever heard of false advertisement laws? If you say it's something, and it's not, then you can be sued.. if you say nothing, and it is Nothing.. you go to the bank without ever having claimed anything that wasn't completely the truth.. I.E. I get to KEEP all my money I scamed you out of, insted of having to pay it back in droves.. funny how things like that work ain't it..
i am still under the impression that this is some kind of guys software project. Maybe software + marketing to find out how much popularity it could get.
so, i wonder what those people who said that it was going to come out on the 28th are thinking now. You can see them around page 2.
no doubt they will be saying something like, "well it is good they didn't release an unfinished product"
Didn't TTH request an interview, but never got a response?
TTH sent a set of member submitted questions to Aventurine, but the questions asked, and the answers given, could have been found by using the search button on the Darkfall forums or on google. Nothing in the answers provided by Aventurine was profound or groundbreaking.
I'm not saying that DF is a scam or that they won't release... honestly I give it a 50% chance of releasing on the new release date, and a 75% chance of releasing eventually.
As someone else stated even if DF delays again the fanboys will be saying "It's good they delayed" etc.
If the game turns out to be a scam and they take pre-order money w/o releasing anything I'm sure there'll even be some fanboys saying something along the lines of "It's good that they took our money, now they can finish the game."

There was just a big write up of it in Massive Online Gamer Magazine.........Never really cared to take a look at the game before, but man...now I wanna play!
PLAYING: NOTHING!!! PLAYED:FFXI, LotRO, AoC, WAR, DDO, Megaten, Wurm, Rohan, Mabinogi, RoM
The game will release!!! There was just a big write up of it in Massive Online Gamer Magazine.........Never really cared to take a look at the game before, but man...now I wanna play!
Funny thing though concerning that Darkfall report from MMOZine (issue 9), is that they end it off saying:
"With a European release already underway as you read this (and a US one to follow shortly after), we'll see if these Greeks are bearing a gift worth spending time with very soon now"
Oh it also says that the ETA for the game is January (100% incorrect though).
I just wish that there was more information in the article about the game that wasnt already mentioned elsewhere (ok granted, a couple of screenshots that i havent seen before, but then again i have only been following this game (screenshot wise) very intermittantly... on the other hand, i have been reading up on most of the articles that get published about the game.

I actually bought a copy of that this week. Its not a preview, just the writer talking about what shes read from press releases and on the forums as well as the FAQs. It also states the game goes live Jan 22nd in Europe.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Not sure why this thread got so many pages, I find it normal that the game rating media will ignore titles that won't let them have any access to them as in previews and whatnot.
Not to mention there are plenty of games with a bigger appeal compared to Darkfall going to be released in Q1. F.E.A.R. 2, Dawn of War II, Resident Evil 5, the list goes on... and I'm pretty sure most of these games will eventually give more information for hands-on articles and whatnot.
Long story short, they're just going for what will bring more attention: the big titles.

I can sort of see your point there, but that doesnt explain why sites that deal in just MMO games cant get a peak at the state of the game. Many have asked and pretty much been told no.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
I'd like to begin by saying that I won't be playing Darkfall, whether it releases or not. The concept simply doesn't appeal to me and as such I have no vested interest in seeing this game fail or succeed. I simply come here to read and enjoy the drama and hysteria whipped up by both camps.
As a disinterested neutral party, I've come to the following conclusion.
Darkfall could launch and be brilliant, HOWEVER, the level of over-inflated anticipation means chances are that it will disappoint the fanbase regardless.
Overhype could kill this game before it sees the light of day.
That said, with the current state-of-play its looking more and more likely that its either terrible or simply nowhere near ready for launch anytime soon. People who say 'Aventurine aren't looking for commercial success' are misleading themselves..it equates to 'Aventurine are setting out to fail'. No company, no matter how much they love their product, work for the pleasure of it alone...money must be made somewhere.
If Darkfall fails, its another nail in the coffin of smaller developers in the MMO genre which is bad for the all MMO fans, fewer companies will want to invest development budgets and all we'll have left is WoW. Nobody wants that.
"Why hasn't this game been reviewed by any major magazine or website"
Because no magazine has a low enough rating system in place......J/K.

the highlighted, along with the "we don't want many people playing the game" have me intrigued...
didn't these guys get a multi-million dollar loan/investment/whatever? aren't those people going to want their millions back plus interest?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Well I'll say this, if Darkfall lives up to the objective reviews that it has had in the press then I'm right. It is vapourware!
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.
