no there wont be open beta.

open beta means ANYONE CAN LOGIN AND PLAY.

    That's not the case.

    actully thats public beta

open beta is with out nda

Technically by what Tasos said in his update today...

We don't know if there will be an Open Beta OR a Public Beta by what he's said.

    He said:

"Starting on January 22nd there will be a Darkfall trial with the distribution of the release candidate client allowing thousands of players to sample the game for free, help us stress test our servers and test the final features of the game."

So for a couple thousand people they may get an "Open" Beta... we still don't know if they will have to sign an NDA or not at this point.

No mention of the words OPEN or PUBLIC Beta... or even the word Beta for that matter.

Didn't he say something about a open beta prior to the 22nd launch? Now there is a pre-order planned...It's just not looking good for them. At least AoC and WAR offered open betas. Actually, I can't comment on AoC's open beta, but I certainly played WAR's, and I am greatful to them for allowing me to do so, the only thing I lost was bandwidth. I didn't like the game, but I certainly didn't flame it. They gave me a chance to decide whether I wanted to play it long term or not, and I decided not.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

there not taking pre orders for beta

Yes they are. He said pre order people will get priority for the beta.

It's a sad day...This is the same s*** Funcom and Mythic pulled.

*The pre-orders will get priority for early access to the game. The pre-orders will also get priority for the game launch if we have to go to a staged release*

3 day headstart or something like that

    zelch about beta

Indeed you are right...pay for early access, not beta I guess is OK. I'm not preordering this game without trial or before drop of NDA though...

    which is fine

No, he said there would be an Open Beta before Launch. Which he just announced has been delayed so they could fit Open Beta.  The pre-order is only available 3 weeks after Open Beta starts, long after we will have heard all about DF and argued in a billion directions about it. All of the people pretending we won't get to actually try DF before pre-orders begin is putting on a farce for the sake of flaming/drama.

There won't be an open beta. An open beta means anyone can play. Tasos said that there will be a limited amount of spots.

not really limited just as many as the servers can hold  so probly around 20-30k

Maybe we have different definitions, but that sounds pretty damn limited to me.

Tasos said directly that not all of the 200k people who have signed up for beta will get to play. What part of that did u not understand?

    I think most say that

Closed (choosen testers, NDAs, limited numbers etc)

Open (no NDAs, no choosen testers, etc)

    Public (Anyone, no limits)

Many probably call public beta a open beta also...

Most descriptions of Open beta in places like Wikipedia and such states that its large scale, often open to a community and so on. I checked around abit, so i wouldnt be making a totaly fool out of myself for making this post

AOC open beta was to open everyone, by definition.

Downtoearth, open your eyes for fuck sake. Realize there is nothing here, move on with your life. You've been one of the worst DF users here, claiming so much different crap its not even fun anymore.

Ok I am no fanboi of DF but to say this game hasn't lived up to its promise makes you look a little silly considering its NOT OUT YET!!!

Unless you are working for the company or in a close circle of friends and played this game for many hours, you really need to wait for it to launch before having an opinion.

Come on ghoul, funcom never dropped the NDA for beta, only for the limited pvp and the 1-20 pay for beta test

There was nothing about Open Beta in the announcement today... read it again.

Some most definitely will NOT be able to play before they have to decide if they want to "guarantee" their spot for Release.  To say otherwise is completely missing the point of his post in the first place.

"the demand exceeds our current capacity"

  • ZtyXZtyX Member UncommonPosts: 368

That's not the difference between those two titles.

And Aventurine has been far more communicative than DnL was. Unfortunately. But, you are right. They are similar in some ways.

They are both visionary games wanting to change this genre to something better.

Indeed  it will be a trial with a release candidate. Hopefully a trial will mean no NDA. That said, preordering a game that is not out of NDA or without a trial is not smart unless you don't mind paying for unfinished games.

And DnL had a very special open beta and a very buggy one . I still don't think it's the same.. Yet.
With DnL we've got fake screenshots, lies about the state of the game (features, stability a.s.o.) and total overhyped every day by the devs. And a difference game to open beta?
It's a long way to go before Aventurine is there. And I think they'll did it right to postpone the release if the game nor the developers and publisher wasn't ready.
Avoid collateral damage bust still takes a hit.

Yup you have the same thing here. Don't worry boys we have BOTS and they are programmed perfectly to test this game (ie. they are programmed to report all is well even when the server is down)

I laughed pretty hard when I read about the DF pre-order.

Ill wait until these guys give me a proper free trial of the game before i hand them any money.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

Aventurine handled this game like the Cleveland Browns.  Now, I don't watch football, but I do know a blunder when I see one.

Aventurine has been promising the sky for a long F$^#ing time now.  Not only this but every interview they've done has held the confidence of an info-mercial.  Honestly, this entire situation screams the word scam.  These guys have proven absolutely nothing past the fact that they lie and are vastly overconfident.

We've been promised a trial before purchase, I expect one.  Anything less from a company as poorly thought-out as this, would likely mean wasted money.

It's honestly like everyone logs onto WoW, and games like WoW, just to masturbate. Everyone plays by themselves, and when they don't, they get what they want and get off.

The fanbois have been screaming for years that there will be no preorders for this game, and that everyone will get to try it for free.

Now there will be preorders, and everyone won't get to try it for free. . Those are facts, not assumptions.
