Aventurine Refuses MMORPG.COM Preview Request
I know a lot of people would feel more comfortable if MMORPG.COM or some other respected gaming site had the chance for a hands-on preview of Darkfall. A preview would go a long way towards legitimizing the game.
Recently, Tasos stated that he would open the game up for independant previews (I can't find a source for that, could someone provide it?). Shortly thereafter, either the editor of MMORPG.COM or the owner made a post on the Darkfall forum promising to contact Aventurine for a preview.
I've always wondered what came of that. For those of you who, like me, were looking forward to the preview, it turns out that Aventurine has backed away from their promise to allow independent previews of the game. Here's a statement from MMORPG.COM regarding the status of the preview (scroll down to the bottom, look for Stradden's reply):

Yeah that's freaky. When the time comes.... OK it's about a month from the new release date and so tell us when is the time? Would that be after the pre-orders are in?

Whatever became of that Journalist Beta you were hyping about 3 weeks ago? You know the one you said was starting the first week in January. The one that many of us pointed out to you was just rumor from the Italian site. The one that even Jon himself never heard of... yeah that one.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the NDA come the 22nd. only 5 more days until we find out.

Its like every generation of MMO gamer needs an overhyped game to release then get burned on before they become just as cynical as the rest of us.

yep... wonder how many of the names I just posted some of you never even heard of? Spend some time and do some reasearch on those titles, who developed them, published them and where they are now.

That's more the consequence. They are masters at stretching people's trust and patience to a limit. I'm sure that after Darkfall, Tasos will earn good money giving conferences for executives in major corporations.

As to your Game List idea: We don't use our Game List as a weapon. That would pretty much destroy our credibility. It's a list of available games, and not a list of who has done what we've told them to do.
Look, I'm not happy about it either, but it's the company's decision. I really can't force them to let me into their game. You, as a member of the community, and the communitty at large, need to make up your own minds about any game on our list, including this one. We never come down the mountain and tell you all what we want you to think. We try our best to inform you, to the best of our ability.
So here's the information I'm giving you now: A trial has been requested. We were told that we would be allowed to see it when the time came. We haven't seen it yet.
Keep in mind that the refusal comes on the heels of an offer by Tasos to allow journalists into the game.
You guys act like this is some shocking revelation. Darkfall has deliberately restricted access to friends and close contacts. Most reviews that have been released were by friends, people who we have never heard of, or small publications with restrictions that might as well just be mouth pieces. I mean... the whole noob posting cracked me up, her sites PAID FOR by them...
Regardless, I am so hopeful that DF manages to make a good game, but they are really missmanaging the game at this point.
I was actually glad to hear that they are pushing the game back to Feb for stress testing (something a game CANT live with out, even though some of the koolaid drikers around here dont seem to understand) However, its going to be longer than a month for a good stress test, and for them to find and fix the issues it calls.
We are looking at March or April for a functional game...and thats if all the rest of the game is functional, Im just talking stressing the servers.
I think the people that are pre ordering this game would have been the same ones waiting in line for the Kool Aid that Jim Jones made a few years ago..........Despite all the warning signs there will still be people that blindly give Aventurine whatever they want for this game......As for beta leaks, there might not be any......ALot of us have suspicions that there may not be many because they arent letting outsiders in..... The reason why they wont give any outside source a preview/interview is that they have alot to hide and their game is bush league......Go watch the vids on youtube where you cant understand what the guys are saying.....They look terrible....The graphics are dull and bland and the characters are extremely herky jerky.......LIke a previous poseter said there are plenty of examples of bad releases and Darkfall is following in those same footsteps..... You guys can give Aventurine your money but dont say you havent been warned......When/if the game releases what does it hurt to wait a month or two to get some solid reviews?? At least with AoC/WAR we knew people who were in the betas.....No one seems to know anyone in the Darkfall beta testing.

Yes because we all know that stress testing a game involves the public in an open beta enviroment. Pushing the launch date back will not stress test the game. Only give them more time to set up there infrastructure. Something this company should have had in place along time ago.
Tasos stated 7 months ago that they where hiring people for CS, and now here we are today with no CS.

Her website is hosted by Aventurine, she's a friend of Tasos and she is not an acredited member of the press. For me, her preview does not hold the same weight as a preview from MMORPG.com, for example.
As long as she continues making funny comics, her credibility is just fine with me. As for her preview, I have to take it with a grain of salt, knowing the above.

She doesnt have any credibility. She is posting a review of the people who run her site free of charge. Thats like reviewing your company on line publicly with your name. She cant be objective... its a conflict of interest.
It would be like me reviewing my girlfriend... anything negative I say about her would hurt me, so thus, I wouldnt say anything negative about her. I dont know about you, but a coerced review means nothing to me.
